LEGO Dimensions now available in Europe
Posted by CapnRex101,
LEGO Dimensions is now available in most European countries and based on the reception the game received in North America, I expect it will prove popular! You will find a list of all the packs which make up wave one and are on sale now here.

It seems to be not yet available in each country in Europe.
Available only in France, Ireland and UK, but not in Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.
I hope that around June these sets will be on HUGE discount.
What's the phrase the kids use? Meh.. Yeah that's it. About sums it up for me....
I understand that the packs are not just for the Minifigures and builds; they are actual products which unlock levels an other characters which is why they cost £15 and £30. I don't play video games nor do I have a console to play them on so for those prices I couldn't justify paying for minifigures and small ploybag sized builds. fingers crossed that these go on sale soon at least half price.
The ones only worth getting are the new themes like Portal, The Wizard Of Oz and the themes that started with LEGO Ideas which have been expanded upon. Even then I'm kidding myself.
Does anyone know if the Toy Pad's cable can be extended? My console is in another room, so the 2m will not be enough...
@zmarkella I should imagine it's only a USB cable so I see no reason why not.
As these are designed for a console game i would expect the packs to be around for a long time however would anyone know if some packs would become 'hard to find' as they are Wave 1?
I see the price in Germany being slightly better value as it is €99 Euro vs £99 pounds in the UK for the starter pack. I think even at €99 Euro it is expensive so i expect prices to reduce after Christmas even if this is 10% off.
For me i like a few packs and my son would want them all i'm sure so possibly for those more interested in the Lego only, they can still sell the base plates to the gamers who may only want to play the game rather than have the Lego...So find a gaming friend who is happy to split costs of the packs.....
At these prices, I'd rather get an UCS or two than start collecting this. Even at 50% off I'd consider this a rip-off considering the amount of LEGO you actually get. And as the game is played through in very short time, the additional game seems like the chewing gum you used to get with the trading cards...
So, a really big 'thumbs up' from the Brickset community so far... :)
In Italy, it's not out yet as well...but price is too high, as i suspect this will be in the league of disney infinity (which did NOT have infinite fun for grown-ups...)
I am interested in the new minifigures, i'll get them somehow.
Initially The Netherlands was not considered to be a Launch country by TLG, but because there are so many LEGO fans in The Netherlands, they brokered a deal with the company that owns both Intertoys and Bart Smit to sell LEGO Dimensions exclusively in those two toy stores.
Though I am interested in LEGO Dimensions for my Wii U console, I will not pay full price for it at Bart Smit or Intertoys. I'd rather wait till it becomes more widely available and see if it will get a nice discount in other game / toy stores when that happens.
Even so, buying the Starter Set from Intertoys for €99,99 or (at some future date) from the LEGO web-shop for the same price at least gives you an extra 99 VIP points at the LEGO LEGO.com ...
Retail price for the PS4/Xbox-one starter pack in Ireland is €129.99!!! Crazy price.
Just checked LEGO.com for Ireland and it's "only" €99.99 for the starter pack on there. Weird when you consider the UK price is £99.99 (c.€135 at today's exchange rate).
They would have done so much better if the cost was reasonable. They don't seem to have agreed a revenue share its just the price for the LEGO plus the price for the DLC, both of which are already inflated prices. If they'd been a bit less greedy the range is so huge they would have made more from volume of sales. I won't be buying a single thing till its discounted i've got better LEGO sets to buy and better video games to buy, and yet I am part of their target market, an obsessive collector who could afford the whole range.
I do like the TT Lego games but they haven't updated the engine it runs in years. This is supposed to be a big launch for the new consoles but the graphics are noticeably bad, they look basically the same as the first game from nearly 10 years ago. If they expect ridiculous sums for their DLC I expect them to actually work on the game engine every once in awhile. It doesn't look like the game mechanics are particularly changed either, they are ok but after you've played as many as I have its getting old. I have completed the Lego Movie, LOTR, Hobbit, Star Wars, Batman, Marvel games, I've still got Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and Pirates of the Caribbean to get through. The main difference is those games were all a lot cheaper.
The Netherlands is not a European country...... Obviously
like disney infinity and skylanders, if you buy at launch you'll pay higher prices for being an early adopter. if you are prepared to wait, i dont imagine it will be long before you see price reduction and multi buy discounts, especially around holiday time - half term always saw disney infinity characters have "3 for 2" offers in places like game and tesco :)
FYI, you can get the set inventories from Lego.com missing pieces section. Should be available on Brickset next time Huw crawls the Lego site. This will help identify which minifigs are new and which are not
People want these to be discounted. So do I. But if the game is popular (which I'm assuming I will be, otherwise TLG has made a massive mistake!) then they certainly won't be discounted anytime soon. Sorry :(
I constantly hear folks complaining about the cost at launch, how they'll only buy when it's discounted, and so on and so forth. My question is why?
There is this little thing called Market Research. LEGO is not an idiot, they would not suggest prices for products that would result in failure, or loss of profits.
Let us consider the factors involved in getting such an undertaking off the ground. First comes the research for how the technology needs to be utilized. Costs of producing specific pieces with LEGO compatibility that will interact with the game. Many companies in the past seem to have taken such a step already, the technology doesn't seem to be new, from what I'm led to believe all TTL games use similar tech.
Now then let us take into consideration other factors that result in creating costs we the consumer must face. It is after all the cost of doing business.
Licensing Fees, these are the real kicker and the biggest monster of all. LEGO is not the sole IP holder as Disney is, nor are they relying on a single IP to carry their title. You are basically dealing with Warner Brothers for all your DC and WB content. Then there's Universal for Back to the Future and Jurassic World. On top of that you've got your Midway Arcade and the folks who own Portal so there's other game companies getting a piece of the action. And lest we forget, the BBC wouldn't charge 0$ for what is essentially a huge fan following franchise.
I'm still not sure why Twentieth Century Fox is part of the picture, not sure which franchise they own the rights to. New Line has Lord of the Rings.
You are basically saying that LEGO should charge the same as Disney or Skylanders for their products because it's how much the market for such games are. LEGO unfortunately just can't do this, and it isn't because of cost of producing parts or anything like that as much as you think. It's the cost of having multiple Intellectual Properties and having to pay the IP Holders their licensing fees in order to use these characters and events. It honestly couldn't have come cheaply to pay the voice cast either, considering the sheer magnitude of characters involved. And if rumours are true we may be hearing Daniel Radcliffe next year when Harry Potter get's added in. (Unless they go for sound alikes instead.)
All of these costs of production need to be made up for. We as the end users can't be expected for the company to just eat these costs and pray to the LEGO God that they'll profit enough to stomach such a loss on investment.
We all want to play in a digital world where the Doctor can interact with any franchise under the sun. But we don't want to pay for it. A rather unfortunate mindset.
I have experienced a great many things since picking up the game, and I would have paid even more if I had to, to get such a title. It is the most ambitious, most inspiring bit of fun since the days of TT games first started. Long have I desired to see such a title, it took a few years to get there and it means paying for all of the extra materials in person, but it's something truly worth the cost of admission. And I don't begrudge LEGO for making the choices they did with MSRP. Considering the level of 'Star Wars' tax we've been seeing of late for their products I'm glad that franchise isn't involved. They'd be asking 25$ a pop for Luke and Leia Fun Packs and even more for the Team and Level packs simply because it's Star Wars and you have to pay to enjoy it.
I think the real problem many older fans have is the dreaded Price-Per-Piece ratio. When it comes to these products that is no longer a large enough factor to consider in my opinion. It may be part of the costs, but it certainly isn't the only thing. I am not buying the product to simply build some LEGO models and collect mini-figures, I am purchasing it to enjoy a game. That I get cool toys as part of that bargain is well worth it in my books, even if I must save and pace my purchases to when I can afford it than by jove I'll do it. And I won't hurt the company by waiting for discounts just because I feel e
Lego video games and DVDs tend to be much more widely discounted than Lego sets. You can typically pick most games up at more than 50% off a few months after release.
Since Dimensions spans toy and game markets, it'll be interesting to see.
I would certainly be amazed if the main game wasn't heavily discounted after Christmas.
Odeinoichus ^: I think it's also AFOLs objection to LEGO jumping on the Skylander-Disney:Infinity cash cow (if you can jump on a cash cow?!?!). With the portal experience you end up having to buy multiple figures and then new portals for each upgrade (as far as Skylanders is concerned). And now there must be thousands of Skylanders figures languishing in drawers under TV sets across the world, each having cost Mum/Dad/insert-other-relative a pretty penny in the first place.
However, these games AREN'T for us, they're for the kids - so that allows them to sell what they want at whatever price they want, knowing that pester-power and peer pressure will do all the work for them...
Cynical? Moi?
@Odeinoichus
Thats a lot of marketing speak for why Lego has chosen that price. No customer cares. A company sells the product at a price the customer agrees or they don't sell the product. We aren't going to take pity on Lego and pay any price they demand thats not the reality of business, if they can't deliver at a suitable price that is their failure. They haven't even made a PC version which completely rules out purchase from me even ignoring the price.
I have huge collections of games and Lego, i'm not going to stop showering LEGO or TT in money from my many many purchases but they've so much on offer thats better value, that Dimensions is not going to reach the to buy list. The gimmick is not enough to justify the price. LEGO ought to do a better job lowering its licensing fees as well, they are the ones taking the risk and doing the work after all while the license holder makes largely undeserved profit. Profit that in many cases wouldn't exist at all without LEGOs effort. Back to the Future and some other franchises aimed directly at AFOLs are good examples of this. They have plenty of leverage to turn down franchises (other than Star Wars and DC) if they don't get better terms.
@curious
Well the customer should care. Behind the scenes stuff like marketing decisions is done with the customer in mind. LEGO does not choose prices arbitrarily. Anyone with a shred of common sense and a little bit of background on Business Affairs and Marketing should know that, and anyone without that last bit doesn't necessarily need to ignore these factors.
There was more than likely a reason why LEGO and TT chose to not go with a PC Version. Perhaps it just wasn't feasible.
As far as their licensing deals are concerned. They probably do get good deals, but you have to remember LEGO is located in Denmark, the companies they make licensing arrangements with operate primarily out of the United States. Euro to US conversion is what these days? Obviously they'd have to pay these licensing deals in US funds, hence why the prices of those products are always so... Shall we say higher than expected?
And a license holder has every right to make a profit on a deal, that's called doing business, you don't sell the rights to your IPs to just anybody and for barely enough to justify the deal in the first place. Both LEGO and the company are getting publicity out of this and profits, it's how the business world works, its why we have add after add since the days when television first started that clutter the airwaves and tend to come off as stupider and more clichéd the more the years roll by.
Also, what you said about taking pity on LEGO and paying any price they demand... Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that what we do anyway when it comes to Star Wars LEGO? They've been hitting us harder and harder, just look at the ridiculously over the top prices that The Force Awakens sets are gearing, and people still pay it.
Customers will pay a fair price, and LEGO charges fair prices. They don't expect you to pay for anything if you're not in the target market, so if you aren't willing to pay for it at their asking price it doesn't mean LEGO is being stupid with their pricing choices. It means you aren't the target market.
I am getting more and more dissapointed by TLG. Now Dimensions is online at shop @home as a theme, but just 1 'set' is available: the PS3 starter pack and only as a pre-order.
It is available in mutiple stores by now, but the company itself is not selling it?
Really strange.
^Edit: The Theme is now gone alltogether....
