Improvements to the site to help you spend less
Posted by Huw,I've made a few minor changes to various areas of the site to enable you to make better purchasing decisions:
On the 'Buy' tabs on the set details pages:
- In the Buy from shop.LEGO.com section, the table now shows the price in each country in your local currency. I haven't finished populating the data that tallies countries to currencies but most major ones have been done.
- The Buy from Amazon section also shows the approximate price in your local currency. This is particularly important if you're in the EU because you can buy from any EU Amazon and it can be cheaper to buy from, say, Amazon.es and have it shipped to the UK than it is to buy from Amazon.co.uk.
If you're in the UK you'll notice the data from Argos has been properly integrated into the database, so the Argos discounted set list is now more functional in line with the Amazon ones, and also on the 'Buy' tab you'll see Argos shown if they stock the set you're looking at.
I hope you find these tweaks useful.

Thanks Huw! This feature is really awesome. It might help me spend less on individual sets but probably not overall!! Can't resist a bargain...
Thanks very much. :-)
I was in Argos today and there are quite a few SW sets at 25% discount, which are not listed here. How up-to-date is the data?
Why does it have one column that says "US$ equivalent" and another one that says "USD equivalent?" They both list exactly the same values, so I don't understand this at all.
^^ The feed is updated overnight from Argos but's not unusual for data feeds to be a few days behind reality so that could explain it.
^ Because you're in the US. Everyone gets to see a US$ equivalant, as a means of comparing the costs across the world. Then, people who live in countries that I have an exchange rate for get another column for their local currency. Because you're in the USA you see both, which I agree is not ideal so I'll remove the USD one for you.
These are really useful features, thanks.
But the "Buy from Amazon" table doesn't show which Amazon the prices come from, e.g. is it Amazon. de or Amazon.fr. The column on the left is empty, is this where I'm supposed to see which Amazon is that?
"Buy from shop.lego.com" section works fine.
^ Turn off your ad blocker and you'll see the images.
Why when I click BUY at the top of the page do I get redirected to the homepage???
Always makes it easier. Thanks, Huw.
