Your first look at the new Technic dragster
Posted by Huw,
R0Sch has sent us this picture of the alternate build for 42050 Drag Racer, a Technic set which is due for release early next year. This image, along with several others, appears in the 2016 calendar which is available free with purchases from LEGO Stores today.
Can you believe it's been 32 years since LEGO last released a decent-sized Technic dragster? The last one was 8847, produced in 1983.
It looks fantastic for a B model, don't you think?
Update: here's the 'A' model:

It looks great! and a new use for the UCS Batman Tumbler tyres...
I think under model team they released a very decent set on 1999- 5533-1 Red fury

I don't like the look of the thing, but are some of those pieces in Medium Azur?!
EDIT: Wow, I'm loving the A-Model! Even more medium azur! I wonder how big / how expensive / what features this thing has.
I look forward to Huw's review so I can see what it looks like without stickers.
I often displayed the dragster B models of these back in the day.

I think the first one was on the box of the Technic 853 set in 1977.
I suppose the Power Puller doesn't really count......
All I can say is "TOTALLY AWESOME".
Completely agree with FuddRuckus. I had both those sets, and loved the dragsters so much they became my main displays.
^^^ Yes the B model looks very similar to the suggested alternatives for 853 Car Chassis released 38 years ago. http://www.cse.nd.edu/~lego/grp2/www/graphics/lego/956.jpg
I like the colours but am not impressed with the models themselves.
About time we got one of these. I might pick it up on sale around Easter.
I kinda like it. Not into top fuel and funny car dragsters very much but I been wanting those big tires for a muscle car drag car that I wanna make.
If this set is cheap enough I might get it as a parts pack for my Mindstorms EV3. Always looking out for white/red/black panels and large tires.
I agree--the B model looks much nicer to me than the A model!
There was also a dragster b-model in 4404. Sorry, i cant find a link to a picture of it, but you can look in the instructionmanual if you want to see it.

Yellow 7L axles. Why Lego, why? Not more color vomit!
I've got a few choice words that could describe how awesome that funny car looks, but I'll refrain as there might be kids reading this :)
There was also dragster as B-model for 8274 Combine Harvester in 2007.
Another Technic set with moving pistons as it's only function. Are there more stickers than parts in this thing?
^ Looks like it has steering and most likely the body lifts up on the funny car.
This is an awesome huge dragster. There was a Technic dragster in 2013, it came as alternate model by combining set 42010 + 42011
Looks great.
But what about 8471 Nitro Burner? Love that one!
