City Advent Calendar Review: Day 11
Posted by CapnRex101,
We are approaching the half-way mark of this year's Advent Calendars and the City offering today helps us count down the days until Christmas. This clock is rather nice in my opinion and I like the wrought iron effect created by the black elements used to form the pole and mounting for the clock. The model reminds me of a station clock in its design and will go nicely with the lamp post from day eight as the designs are very similar.
I also think the model is reminiscent of the wall mounted clock in 10251 Brick Bank so this might slot in perfectly in a display beside that. The only negative point is the absence of playability but I think the appearance of the model makes up for that.
Overall - 4.0 - This is an excellent piece of scenery but I have reduced the score a bit to reflect the low play value.

Although I really like the design, I feel it's just one cylindrical brick too small, should have 3 instead of 2, no?
Just look at that green plant-piece on it, it is huge in comparison with the clock pole.
Play value depends on imagination. This and the street lamp can be used as "cones" for racing relays where the children need to weave there remote control cars between each obstacle before crossing the finish line.
I also think that scenic appeal is highly desirable. We bought several sets of Playmobil trees for the purpose of decorating our farm and creating a decently sized woods for hiking and hunting. These have added levels of play to our farm too. Our children and I play hide-and-seek with the trees being some of the better hiding spaces for our figures.
That all said, I do think the 4 is a fair score today, but wanted to debunk your reasoning from today and other days and offer another perspective.
Nice! Nicer with one more cylinder! Glad to see things I can use.
Very nice! I like the theme this year! :)
Yes!!! Another black droid top!
I remain underwhelmed by this year's City Advent Calendar, and actually by previous ones as well. The Star Wars one is a bit more expensive, but offers so much more variety and interesting models and builds compared with this. Does anyone else feel the same?
^^ A lot of the builds feel smaller this year, although I don't think the piece count has changed. The X-Wing from the original Star Wars Advent Calendar was HUGE compared to some of the stuff we get now, and it's pretty accurate for the size of what you're getting. Recent stuff feels like "Here's ten bricks that vaguely resemble a Victorian clock." (I think adding some 1x1 black rounds to the clock and lamppost would both make it taller and add a little variety to the pole.)
@ericjohn - I acknowledged the potential for play in my review of the lamp post on day nine, although this kind of model is not going to have the same level of play value as a vehicle or something with moving parts.
