City Advent Calendar Review: Day 21
Posted by CapnRex101,
The box of the City Advent Calendar shows today's gift in pride of place but I had still forgotten that it was coming as a result of its fairly rudimentary design. Models like this one are a mainstay of City calendars and I do not dislike them but they are usually revealed early on, not in Christmas week as this one has been.
Despite my disappointment I must acknowledge that this is not a bad model. The 3x3 cross plate is a very useful element so I am glad to see it appear for the second time in this calendar while the marshmallows on sticks for roasting offer some play value and compatibility with the minifigures. The campfire itself looks decent for a simple structure, it is just a shame that a model of relatively little interest was kept for the 21st of December when I was hoping for more.
Overall - 2.5 - I am pleased by the inclusion of a 3x3 cross plate but was hoping for something more substantial as we near the end of Advent.

It's not Christmas until you're roasting snowballs over a campfire!
Yes, I know they're marshmallows, I just thought it was ironic that it's using the same piece today's Friends calendar uses for snowballs. :P Plus, here in the States, roasting marshmallows over a fire is generally more of a summer activity. It's a nice model for sure, but a bit peculiar.
I am split as to what to get for my first Winter Calendar on 2016, I love SW but the City usually comes with some neat spare pieces.
I think the marshmallows should be a white single stud with hole (85861) topped with a white 1x1 round plate (98138). They could even top with a warm nougat 1x1 so it looks toasted. Would be great for looks and also for parts.
^ quixotequest, you just came up with the best LEGO marshmallow idea ever!
The thing I can't get over for this one is the size. These are some huge marshmallows!
