21305 Maze teased

Posted by ,

Over on Facebook, LEGO has shown a small sneak peek of 21305 Maze, the upcoming Ideas sets based on the approved project Labyrinth Marble Maze by JKBrickworks.

As we know, the set will be available in April for $69.99 and will contain 769 pieces; the largest set from the theme so far.

I presume we will be seeing a full reveal very soon...

769 pieces eh... Now they have No excuse not to make that Caterham. They could easily make it with 700 pieces.

About the marble maze, I'm really not excited for it. It's just not my kinda thing. I guess that's a good thing however, because I don't have to spend money on it!

Would be a fun desk top toy.

WOW I saw this set 3 years ago and loved it. I knew it was announced but didn't know when, totally gonna buy.

Day one buy for me. It seems like Lego (as a toy, not as a company) reaches new level with this one, even though various games were available before. This is really something new and original. It looks like a wonderful gift to a NAFOL to show them the righteous path :)
I think the sales will skyrocket with this one.

I have no doubt this will be a great set, and one to keep my eye on...

...until my local store puts it on clearance when sales lag. 50% off? You bet! But at the moment I have a hard time seeing justification of that price for a set with no license and no minifigures, and I am pretty sure I am not the only one.

I am definitely looking forward to what the finished project looks like.

This may be the only set I will buy this year... I am really excited to see the pictures...

Great set! I have been waiting years and years for it. But 769 pcs for 70 dollars? That doesnt seem right.

Cannot wait to see official reveal!

I could probably find a non-LEGO one for cheaper!

Yes this set would be a good desk top toy

I absolutely hated those maze toys as a kid so this set is probably one of the last things I want to see lego do. I really don't see myself buying this at all.

@LegoTechnicMaster
10c per piece formula would equal $76.90, so $69.99 seems about right.

@Lego_Fox
But a non-LEGO maze would not be modular. The advantage here is two-fold: you get the pleasure of building the base model along with the option to modify / add additional maze plates.

Will be interesting to see if the instructions include plans for any of the additional maze plates Jason included in his dev video, or if the designers at LEGO managed to incorporate a kind of 3-in-1 build for the maze plate like with Creator sets.

The price point of 10 cents a part is for MINIFIGURE sets. This set has none, has no licensing feel, besides the 1% Idea thing, and this is outrageously priced.

By in United States,

^ First time I've heard that restriction on the price formula. So how much would you expect it to be then?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@darkstonegrey for this price I could purchase multiple mazes for different layouts.

By in United States,

Given the trend of previous Ideas sets, $60 would be more reasonable, but we don't actually know what it looks like yet. I suggest you all calm down until we see if it has something that justifies that price tag.

It's definitely too soon to be arguing about price points. There could be some seriously large and heavy Technic pieces holding the maze together--or even some minifigures to act as bumpers or something! At the moment I see no reason to complain, and although I'm not holding my breath for this set I'm certainly pleasantly curious about it.

@Lego_Fox
So you would rather take up space with multiple mazes? And when you tire of the static non-LEGO maze you've given yourself no option to rebuild it into something else / incorporate the parts into another MOC.

Can you provide a link to these table mazes and prices for comparison? I doubt they have the creativeness or whimsy that JKBrickworks has put into his alternate table maze designs.

@darkstonegrey I certainly am not paying a stupidly high price for something I can get normally just because it is made of LEGO.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

^ It's not a "stupidly high price." This is a set with over 700 pieces, so of course you will have to pay $70/$80 for it, which is the usual price for sets with that piece count.

It's too soon to say that this is overpriced before we even see pictures.

Totally stoked for this! Obviously. :)

Thanks for that link. That's one of the better quality wooden mazes I've seen so far - most of the others were junk. Unfortunately I don't see how you can change the layout of that maze like you'll be able to with the LEGO version. So maybe, maybe, you can find two others available for purchase at that price with different maze paths; now you're up to $60 and taking up three times the space.

You all need to approach this from a different perspective and really consider what you're getting for the price here. All that aside, JKBrickworks deserves your support; his designs are genius.

By in Poland,

Somebody here forgets that it's a construction toy, and when you tire of the maze, you can build a spaceship or something, out of it? ;)

By in Croatia,

Common, people -- this is very intelligent toy, as an idea for Lego system, for building and for playing. I am glad to be one who early supported it.

"I certainly am not paying a stupidly high price for something I can get normally just because it is made of LEGO."

What LEGO kits do you buy that you can't find a cheaper alternative for? It seems to me that the appeal of the LEGO brand is that it includes LEGO pieces.

This maze is the reason I opened an account with CUUSOO. I'm looking forward to this set.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I'll buy this, if the alternate mazes will be included (at least two). If not - no way, not for this money.

By in Austria,

@Lego_Fox "I certainly am not paying a stupidly high price for something I can get normally just because it is made of LEGO. "

So basically you don't buy LEGO for being LEGO but just because a LEGO Ferrari is cheaper than a real life Ferrari? :)

The coolest thing I think about this is the fact that you can customize the playing field to whatever you want. Bored of the vanilla setup? Switch it around, make your own maze design! Bored with that? Switch again!

By in France,

I like the fact that it opens the door to any theme MOC you can think of... Chima, Friends, Star Wars

Would be nice sold as main box + theme packs as separate items. this thing could be a long run product range
