LEGO programming this week
Posted by TheBrickPal,
Set your DVRs or tune in, because they're here! LEGO has new shows available for your viewing pleasure this week, mostly in the United States; the premiere of a new show in a new place, a special, and two new episodes of ongoing series.
Check out what's coming after the break...
- Nexo Knights, Cartoon Network, 3/3 at 6:30 PM EST: "The Golden Castle" - When Lance stars in a movie about the Knights, the Book of Monsters want to eat the script to learn more about modern society. Jestro uses his spy, Lavaria, to infiltrate the set and attack the Knights.
- BIONICLE: The Journey to One, Netflix, starts streaming 3/4: "Quest for Unity", "Trials of the Toa" - Six legendary heroes find themselves on an epic quest as they harness the power of nature's elements to defeat the forces of evil.
- Mixels, Cartoon Network, 3/5 at 5:30 PM EST: "Every Knight Has Its Day" - When two competing Mixels start public school, sparks fly when one eagerly wants to mix while the other doesn’t.
- Elves, Disney Channel, 3/6 at 9:00 AM EST: "Dragons in Danger to Save"

I'm going to be watching Nexo Knights in about an hour! I'm glad we finally have confirmation that there will be new episodes each Thursday. Having a reliable schedule is much nicer than having to keep doing Google searches to find out when the next episode airs.
I'm also excited for Bionicle: The Journey to One tomorrow. I love the visual style we've seen in teasers, and the story seems like it's going to be very exciting! It's great to see the story profile of Bionicle increasing, and I hope this series does well. :)
But maybe what I'm most excited for is the LEGO Elves special on Sunday! It's a one-hour special so it shouldn't feel as rushed as last year's special. I wish LEGO and Disney Channel would promote this premiere a bit more heavily. But maybe between now and then we'll see more promotion for it on social media.
Thanks for publishing this article and getting the word out! I never know whether to report this kind of stuff to Brickset because the site has such a large international userbase and most of these premieres (other than Netflix ones like Bionicle: The Journey to One) are U.S.-specific. But now I'll feel a bit more comfortable reporting the next major TV news I see.
Lego has uploaded the Elves trailer to their youtube channel.

I'm really looking forward to this show.
^ Hey, some of us really like them...
^^ You haven't even seen two of them, so how would you know whether or not they are pathetic?
Like @Aanchir, I want to thank @TheBrickPal for posting this article. I'm not totally sold on Nexo Knights as a theme or a cartoon, but even after 5 episodes it is better than Chima ever was.
Any idea when the new Ninjago season will be airing here in the states? Looking forward to the Sky Pirates story arc...
If you prefer your trailer in English, it's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI2MCDhcjYk
I'm looking forward to the new Elves movie, but I guess I'll have to wait for it on Youtube. In the trailer there's something different about the animation, I want to see more to suss it out. I found the book rather a let-down, but maybe the film will be better balanced.
I must confess to misgivings about the actual LEGO dragons, but I'll wait till I get one before sounding off.
@jmjt4: You're going to have to get used to the fact that TV shows are just one of the current forms that LEGO marketing takes. It's the same as how they marketed Fabuland with picture books and videocassettes, or classic Pirates with audiotapes and comic books, or Bionicle with direct-to-DVD movies and comics. LEGO can better engage kids with their brands if they complement them with the sorts of media kids enjoy.
I'll probably end up watching NEXO KNIGHTS on DVD whenever it comes out. I would like to see Journey to One, as well... my new Umarak is setting the mood nicely. :P
My question is: When will Skybound start airing? I'm watching Tournament of Elements right now, and really liking it.
@jmjt4: They HAVE themes for teens and adults. Technic. Architecture. Ideas. Mindstorms. Creator Expert. But if you expect LEGO to start focusing LESS on kids, you're going to need a reality check. If LEGO didn't focus so much of their attention on kids, who are by far their biggest audience, then a lot of us wouldn't have had the formative LEGO experiences that sowed the seeds for us to become AFOLs later in life.
Not to mention, there are a lot of AFOLs who DON'T expect LEGO in general to be more mature or serious than what they grew up with. Either because they want to continue enjoying LEGO on a similar playful level to how they enjoyed it as kids, or because they're parents now and want a LEGO experience they can share with the next generation of their family, or just because current themes appeal to their inner child.
I'm sure LEGO will continue to find new ways to appeal to adults, but themes marketed at kids are the core of their business, and those are never going away. They will, however, continue to evolve.
@PicnicBasketSam: Haven't heard any word yet on when Skybound is airing in the United States. I imagine Cartoon Network might be waiting until this current batch of Nexo Knights episodes is finished airing. Which should be by the end of this month. Cartoon Network isn't always very upfront about when they plan to air things, though.
Anyway, I wasn't very impressed with today's Nexo Knights episode (episode 6 "The Golden Castle"). I wasn't very impressed with this writer's previous episode (episode 3) either. I really the pacing and character-driven humor of episode 5 "Fright Knight" a lot better, so hopefully we get more episodes like that in the remainder of this season.
Huh, I didn't know there was a Mixels cartoon! The characters do have a lot of personality so I can imagine that working well. I've watched a bit of Nexo Knights because I like the sets, and sure, it's not The Simpsons, but I've found it's nice to watch something lighthearted and get an idea of the characters and world that go along with the sets.
@Aanchir You make a great point about the writer. I hadn't even considered who wrote an episode, but you're definitely right about the spotty quality. I've already seen the whole season so I won't spoil anything but I do think I'll watch them all again to compare writers.
Thanks for the post! I autotuned Mixels but I won't be able to watch Elves :(
You notice no one has mentioned BIONICLE yet? While I was not a fan of last years web animation (mainly due to the fact they had one voice for all characters), I am looking forward to this new series. While I do realize it is going to be more dirrected towards kids, as a fan of the original series, I am looking forward to what the new series brings up, and how in the world they fit together. I mean, the Mask of Time hidden in last years animations, and now the Toa Nuva symbols on both the Mask of chest pieces of the Toa? There's a big reveal coming up, and I want to know what it is.
Just watched The Journey To One this morning! It was pretty enjoyable, even though I don't know if the sound design was up to the same caliber as in LEGO Ninjago. There were definitely times that I felt the voices, sound effects, and music could have been balanced better. There were also some points at which the animation was a bit awkward. But overall I loved the story and the visual style. :)
I've taken a look at Nexo Knights and Ninjago (which are the only two I seem to be able to find on my to package) and they're generally pretty good fare for the target audience. If anything, other kids channels are choked by overly weird and psychedelic cartoons and these Lego ones are a pleasant change, if perhaps pretty simple in plot terms.
I'm slightly irritated that the new Bionicle series is Netflix exclusive. If, for example I want to see Game of Thrones, but I also want to see Daredevil and Top Gear, I would have to be signed up to 3 different subscriptions. But that's more for a tv forum elsewhere! I would be interested in seeing the Bionicle series at some stage though, having seen some of their CGI movies quite a few years ago.
I doubt Mixels is airing. There is no ad for it.

The LEGO Elves special was everything I expected it to be and more! A huge step up from last year's TV special. Fantastic writing, animation, voice acting, humor, action, and music. I loved all the new characters and locations. It makes me excited to see more webisodes, and to get my hands on some of the sets! Disney Channel inserted some commercial breaks in odd places but other than that I've got no complaints. :)
^^^ It did air. The lack of a commercial was a concern among many in the fandom.
