2016 book round-up
Posted by Huw,
The first of this year's LEGO books of interest to AFOLs has just been published and details of 18 forthcoming ones can be found on Amazon. I thought it worthwhile, therefore, to post a round-up of what to expect and when.
- Warren Elsmore's Brick History is available now (UK edition | US Edition) and I'll be reviewing it in the next few days.
- Tom Poulsom's Birds from Bricks: Designs That Make LEGO Take Flight is out in a couple of weeks. We reviewed it a month or so ago and will be publishing an exclusive interview with Tom to coincide with its release shortly.
- DK's first book of the year, DC Super Heroes Character Encyclopedia, with pirate Batman minifig on the cover, is published next week.
Find out what's in store for later in the year after the break.

Books are really fine addition to Brickset. Waiting for reviews :)
I wonder if Marvel Character Encyclopedia follows DC soon.
The DC book is available in my local Sainsbury's for £7, pick one up before the weekend. Looks like some great book coming out this year
It is also £7 with free delivery on Amazon.
Unusual for a new book to be >50% off before it is even supposed to be released.
But I picked one up for £7 from Sainsbury's on Saturday.
Cool, will have to check out my local branch...
I guess we're not getting a Y-Wing microfighter with an exclusive figure then :(
This is cool, I want this book. I wonder what other books will come in the future for lego.
Have you guys considered including those Lego activity books that often include a minifig? I know that there's a few Ninjago books around right now and at least one Star Wars one that comes with the current R2-D2 design.
No, simply because there are so many of them and no easy way to keep track of them all.
However, if someone else is up to the job, of finding them all back to the first ones, which I think were Atlantis, then feel free, and we'll add them ;-)
Awesome LEGO Creations With Bricks You Already Have looks like fun. There's a typo on the cover, though... xD
The rest of these No Starch Press and other fan books look really interesting. Cannot wait to read 'em.
Poulsom's book is already available here in the states via Amazon. I received mine Friday
I'm presently most excited for the updated edition of the LEGO Ninjago Character Encyclopedia! I greatly enjoyed the first edition, which covered the 55 minifigures from the theme's first two years. Since then, the number of unique LEGO Ninjago minifigures (not counting minor variants that only have alternate torso accessories or headgear) has nearly tripled, with 162 figures released to date! That should be more than enough to make this new edition worthwhile.
I'm curious what exclusive minifigure this new edition will include. It'd be great if it included a new version of Nya, who's had less than half as many unique designs as the other five ninja, and who has had at least one significant costume in the show that hasn't appeared in any sets. Skylor's new costume from her latest appearance in the TV show would be interesting as well, and lately some of the DK guide books have started featuring secondary characters, so that's not out of the question.
Please review Chris Mcveigh's LEGO Ornament book!
Would it be possible to make the author name a link? ie, so that it would return a search result of all books by that author? Or maybe a tag?
^ Yes, that would be a good use of tags. I'll add them when I find the time.
The DC Encyclopedia is already out in Australia. I bought it last week. I didn't hugely want it, but Pirate Batman.
I don't suppose there's any way of categorising books differently from sets for our collections, is there Huw?
I have rather a number of books, which I'd like to continue to keep track of on Brickset, but they're skewing my collection statistics!
I want that Pirate Batman in my collection! He'll go perfect with the Soldiers Fort and Outpost I have!
