Marvel announces merchandising program for Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Posted by Huw,
Yesterday, Marvel announced that Hasbro and LEGO will be making toys for the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie which is due for release in May next year.
"A major emphasis will be placed on children ages 6-11. Leading toy partner Hasbro is on board with a range of action figures and role play products based on the new film, while LEGO adds to its lineup with new construction sets."
I am sure this will come as a surprise to no-one given the success of the first film and how well received the LEGO sets that accompanied it were.

so by 6-11 it pretty much means all play sets great (also first comment)
Sounds great! Hopefully we will get a Groot minifigure this time with the woody legs from the Toy Story sets and a custom molded head.
Really looking forward to more LEGO sets for these movies, but that age-range seems pretty young. Granted, it usually hardly applies to LEGO anyway, but just for the general record--even 11 seems hardly old enough for the first movie to me, let alone 6. I guess that since we're talking toys here...
These sets will sell like hot cakes! I am in for my share for sure!
@Aidypie
Ratings are pretty much skewed upwards nowadays. Me and my friends were watching Scream, Blade, Silence of the Lambs, American Pie etc, to name some of the most extreme ones, when we were 11. All of us turned out to be totally fine.
What the media was trying to sell us as "age appropriate" were totally infantile to us. If the compulsory school literature around that time is full of violence and sex (mostly historical novels), what do you expect? That we would be content with child stuff? Pretty much double standards. So yes, in my opinion GotG is totally for kids below 10.
I had no doubt that Lego would be part of this. ^^

Well, not exactly. There are certain things children probably shouldn't see at certain ages due to not being ready for it. A kid about 12-14 can enjoy something like Marvel movies due to them not containing really extreme content that would be concerning for parents. You have a curse word here and there, but none of them are really major. A lot of extremely violent and gory stuff such as Ronan smashing the guy with a hammer is done off screen.
Water is wet:). Though I am excited about a possible Groot that isn't brickbuilt. UCS Milano is the stuff of dreams!
Really looking forward to the film & the Lego sets to be released, all 3 sets from the 1st film were brilliant...
Yes! Bring it on :-)
Just give me a baby Groot and I'll be happy.
Sweet there batter be a groot minifigure and baby groot
So excited. The Milano Spaceship is probably one of my favorite sets ever.
I want a better Groot in a new set. The brick built Groot was lacking in spirit.
Really looking forward to these - it was the Guardians of the Galaxy sets that got me interested in collecting the Marvel Super Heroes line to begin with (which also led to me jumping into the DC Super Heroes stuff), so it will be great to get more sets in the same sub-theme that started my Lego Super Heroes obsession...
Great news - I love the first movie! Still have the Milano sealed and waiting for a good moment to build it. But now I'm skeptic to do or don't and will probably wait for the first pics of the new sets..
We'll probably get a second Milano, but it will be smaller than the first. The set will also include a spaceport tower that can be knocked over, but really people will only be interested in it for the brick-built Groot large-fig, who will also have an accompanying microfig of himself too. Spiderman will also be appearing in all the sets just because.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just wrapped shooting on Thursday...a day ahead of schedule and under budget. We'll likely see our first Mantis minifigure.
More licenced rubbish...
Marvel Studios let's take back The Silver Surfer from Fox and put hin n the space with Adam Warlock and the Guardians...
I think we'll see Cosmo...
This will be interesting.....
Like many have said, we need a bigger Milano and a minifig Groot. But I'm surprised no one is complaining about getting a better Drax. The last one we got was a pretty weak likeness.
I wouldn't mind a Groot bigfig similar to Lego Marvel Superheroes game
In I'm calling it now: we won't get a Milano at all, let alone a bigger one. It's two years since the last one (three by the time the film comes out). It is less iconic than the Millennium Falcon and even that hasn't had a minifig release closer than 3-4 years apart. It's also not like the Quinjet where there are multiple different designs at various sizes in the films themselves.
Are there any other licensed, named, singular, large vessels which we can compare it to? Not including star wars gunships - they're like Quinjets (lots of them, so owning more than one is actually helpful).
I've not built any of the sets from the last one yet.
Wish I'd bought 2 Milano...
