Ideas Showcase
Posted by FlagsNZ,
In this Ideas Showcase article I take a look at projects that have more than 5000 supporters.
Each LEGO Ideas project must gain at least two to three supporters a day so as to reach the first milestone: 1000 supporters in 365 days. After that, the pressure is increased as the project must get 22 supporters a day for 182 days to achieve the second milestone: 5000 supporters. Finally, the project must get slightly over 27 supporters a day for 182 days to reach the ultimate goal of 10000 supporters.
Obviously, if a project achieves 1000 supporters at a faster rate than specified above, then the later two rates will be slightly reduced.
Read on to see whether you agree with my selections for my five supported 5000+ projects.
Landrover 4 x 4
By Dadandlad
This Lego model of the instantly recognisable Land Rover series III has all the features of the original vehicle.
The project has impressive features such as opening doors, bonnet and removable hard top. The detail is just as amazing from the petrol filler cap, mud flaps and exhaust system.
The detail on the inside includes adjustable front seats, moving gearstick, lifelike gauges and highly detailed engine bay with removable grill, enabling you to see all the internal workings.
Lego Store Modular Version
By kashaka
From a long time ago, Kashaka wanted to build a LEGO Store with a pick-a-brick section on a wall from the bottom to the ceiling. Finally, he built one based on the concept of a stand-alone LEGO Store which is about to open after a long period of renovation work in an old building of New York.
Boat Repair Shop
By robenanne
Robenanne built this project using LEGO Digital Designer (LDD). He really believes that this model could have a lot of genuine interest for fans of his sea front village sets.
This is the second of a series of modular buildings that he has submitted.
Sega Classic Arcade Machines
By SpacySmoke
Build miniature representations of classic Sega arcade games out of LEGO bricks!
These minifigure-scaled replicas will look good displayed on your desk at work or home and are perfect for use in your LEGO City. The three included minifigures look great at the controls of these detailed builds.
Vintage Tram
By kevinszeto
Tram networks were popular public transportation systems throughout the industrialised world in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Trams evolved from being horse-drawn, to steam-powered, and finally to electric-powered. With the introduction of other forms of transport, however, trams began their decline by the mid-20th century.
Today, vintage trams (or heritage trams) exist in various cities around the world in an effort to preserve a part of the living history of rail transport.
Showcase
These are just a few of the 5000+ supported LEGO Ideas sets worthy of promotion. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments if you think there are other worthy projects that I have missed.
Since posting my first Ideas Showcase two weeks ago, fellow Brickset news editor rock99rock has agreed to help with writing these Ideas Showcase articles. He posted some Ideas articles last year. We will be posting these Ideas Showcase articles every alternate fortnight.
I look forward to the next showcase posted by rock99rock and our ongoing collaboration to highlight Ideas projects.

The Boat Repair Shop matches the Old Fishing Store that has reached the 10,000 mark, so if you support that set and want it to be made into a product (like I do) I think supporting the Boat Repair Shop is a good move.
It's insane to think that TLG will actually approve a LEGO store set, meaning that they would have to pay somebody else (Ideas creator) royalties for their own in-house retail brand.
You can add modulars to the list of things that Lego are unlikely to approve.
A modular Lego store? Never going to happen.
I'd buy those arcade machines for a dollar! Well, more than a dollar...
They already released a fan-made modular in the form of the Market Street... so there is a precedent. And this time they know that at least 10,000 people are interested in it.
Ideas is populated with projects that has third party licencing issues.
I really like the frontage of the LEGO store. From the Technic gears and wheels of the facade, to the Quadplo LEGO bricks on the street; this is a great Ideas project.
The Sega Arcade machines are my favourite, think they could have a decent chance at review.
It's a pity that a news source so popular as Brickset allows an article advertising a traditional PORTO Tram without mentioning it is a Tram which can only be seen in Porto and nowhere else in Portugal or in the whole world.
I like the tram but will have stiff competition with this years Winter Village addition 10254 Winter Train.
^^You're right: here is an image of the real thing.

I like this project because it is a tram, I and missed the unique feature of the tram coming from Porto.
When looking at the Ideas image and comparing with the image above, Kevinszeto has attempted to duplicate the background by including a water mark with Igrejas dos Carmelitas e do Carmo (Carmelitas and Carmo Churches) his background imagery.
Unfortunately I don't think any of them will make it past the review stage. even though all of them could fit the Ideas brief, at the right time.
The Landrover is too close to the release of the Beetle. Delay this project to the next review period and it might be the one to choose. :) I really like it.
The Lego store has been done with the Store Opening exclusives and Lego store in the City Square set.
Boat Repair shop is too adult oriented. But I would build it if the instructions are made available.
The Arcade machines are too retro, with a specific adult audience. Well maybe. This could work if the reviewers think enough children like them.
The vintage Tram ? too close to the Winter Village Train? again if this was delayed by a couple of review periods it might have a chance?
The boat repair shop is unbelievable!!!
The boat repair shop looks great but would be too pricey, the Landrover looks off. The top doesn´t fit the car either, or it´´s just not photographed the right way.
Hmmm... if we got a tram, I wonder if I could get my mother into Lego building. She often mentions the old trolley-buses we had here when she was growing up. But yes, the usual vagaries of TLG's decisions re: trains apply...
I'd love the boat repair shop, too.
It's rather frustrating that the last two articles on Lego ideas have shown the 10000 and 5000 range. My project has twenty days left and hasn't received any mention yet on Brickset articles. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/90855
I think the three projects that 'Robenanne' have submitted are simply outstanding. I have voted for each of them, and would purchase them in a flash. Incredible talent.
Oh man I'd be all over the arcade machines. Lost a lot of quarters to each of them! But would kids even know what those are? Last time I was in an arcade it was all dance games and ticket machines.
I feel like, with things like the A-Team Dimensions set coming out, Lego are really acknowledging the market for adult nostalgia. The arcade games would fit perfectly with that.
I love the boat repair shop (as well at matching fishing store). Both are as close to perfect sets as you can get and I'd not think twice about buying both of them if they were released.
Boat Repair Shop gives me a Ninjago City of Stiix vibe!
While I think the Boat Repair Shop is a beautiful MOC, I am not convinced it should be made available through the Ideas range. On the other hand, I thought the same about the Advanced Modular Vehicles and was pleasantly surprised that the Caterham Super Seven was officially approved and will actually be released as an Ideas set. So who knows, it might be possible. And that means the Landrover 4X4 still has a chance too if it reaches 10,000 supporters.
Personally I love the Sega Classic Arcade Machines and would totally LOVE to have them as a real Ideas set! Considering LEGO did a Midway Arcade Level pack for Dimensions, I think it's quite possible for LEGO to release this Sega set in Ideas.
I think they look pretty good! They seem to have a lot of detail.
The arcade set would be even better if it came with a few Sega characters...
Lego already has some sort of licensing agreement with Sega: Sonic will be making an appearance in Lego Dimentions. Don't know if this helps or hurts the Sega Arcade Machine's chances.
Wodanis - it is a nice set, but you know it will never be accepted as a ideas set, so you shouldn't have submitted. My concern is Lego may not do a modular like yours because people will moan how it looks similar. Just as some malcontents did with the GB Firehouse.
@Wodanis: I think LEGO will never approve a modular building from an Ideas project.
In house LEGO has genius designers to design their own modular buildings
@Venunder: I believe we can safely abandon the idea that Ideas sets need to (primarily) appeal to children. From those released in the past, none seems to be particularly geared towards children. I think Lego well knows that Ideas sets are largely collectible items for AFOLs.
Also, there are still quite a few cities around the world where public transport heavily depends on (modern) trams. Melbourne (AUS), Bremen (GER), and Zurich (CH) immediately come to mind...
Thank you for including the Sega Classic Arcade Machines! I think the recent addition of Sonic to Lego Dimensions will make it easier for these to pass review if it gets to that point. And in my opinion, these games are more well known to younger gamers than the Midway ones in Dimensions, so I don't think you could argue that these are too old; let's not forget that these games have been constantly re-released over the years - they just released 3D versions of these games for the Nintendo 3DS!
I think the only negative of this Sega/Lego relationship might be that they are already looking at making an arcade set, similar to the Midway Arcade set. If so, that might put the project in jeopardy if it gets to the review stage.
@Ferus Olin I think it's still a possibility that the set can include Sega characters. I personally would want to see Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue and maybe the Space Harrier. Other than that, I don't think any other Sega characters would make sense with these particular games (Sega Hard Girls might work though). If somehow it actually gets the 10k supporters and passes review, you can bet that I'll make that suggestion to the Lego designers!
Thank you to everyone who supported the project thus far! I'm just pleased as punch that it made it this far!
Nice article! but the description for the tram doesn't talk about the Lego model at all
@Wodanis
Its clear you have a lot of support but still I feel you should know you first impression picture is poor. It only features half of the building and even though it is a nice part of the set it does not do it justice. I really had to dig to get a proper view of the whole picture. As you know first impressions are everything and I think you could get many more votes if you remedy this problem.
Some nice submissions on here, a few of which I have already supported. I absolutely ADORE the Sea front Village sets from robenanne!
