Supergirl to be available for Dimensions in a new PS4 starter pack

Posted by ,

We saw it coming; starting in September, Supergirl will accompany Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf in a new version of the PlayStation 4 starter pack of LEGO Dimensions, to go with the upcoming year two content. The information was revealed at Gamescom. This specific starter pack will be available for a limited time only.

Those who already have the starter pack will be able to access Supergirl in-game through the 'Hire-a-Hero' feature next year. She will include all of Superman's abilities and also be able to transform into a Red Lantern variant.

“Introducing the Supergirl from Krypton!”

Supergirl LEGO Minifigure Added as Exclusive Bonus
in LEGO Dimensions Starter Packs for PlayStation4

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed today at Gamescom that starting in late September 2016, LEGO Dimensions Starter Packs for Sony PlayStation4 computer entertainment system will include an exclusive, bonus DC Comics Supergirl LEGO minifigure for a limited time. The highly collectable Supergirl LEGO minifigure has many extraordinary in-game abilities to help solve puzzles and battle enemies, including Super Strength, Flying, X-Ray Vision, and Beam Attacks which enable her to shoot heat beams out of her eyes. She can also transform into Supergirl Girl Red Lantern with additional abilities such as firing powerful Red Lantern energy bolts and energy beams from the Red Lantern Ring and forming Red Lantern Energy Constructs.

The LEGO Dimensions PS4 Starter Pack includes the videogame, bricks to build the LEGO Gateway, four LEGO minifigures, Batman, Gandalf, Wyldstyle and the exclusive Supergirl, plus the LEGO Batmobile, and the revolutionary LEGO Toy Pad, which allows players to transport special LEGO minifigures and models into the game, as well as direct in-game action all with the movement of the physical toys.

In the future, Supergirl will be available as a “Hire-a-Hero,” a feature in LEGO Dimensions that allows players to sample characters using studs collected in the game. Players can select the hologram minifigure near certain hint stones to unlock characters for a limited time to try out their special abilities to solve problems and complete puzzles.

By in New Zealand,

I'd been on the fence about Lego Dimension, but if they're going to do things like make figures exclusive to consoles like this, then I'm really not interested. I'm glad I held back and saved my money.

Will she be in the box or handed over separately like other game promos.

Lego dimensions had no preorder promos. Why not do this when the game first came out!?!?

Most likely in the box.......... -__-

I hate it when things like this happens. I have the Xbox one version and every single add on pack, I love dimensions but this feels like a bit of a kick in the teeth to loyal dimensions customers. I hope Lego rethinks this and makes supergirl available on all platforms. I know supergirl isn't a major character but would still like to have her along with green lantern for the sake of completeness. Come on Lego, play fair!!!

@thomsedavi Watched the trailer for this on the PlayStation YouTube channel earlier today. It seemed to imply that this would be a timed exclusive. Very few multi platform properties are truly exclusive these days. There's just too much money to be made.

I've been buying many Fun Packs and Team Packs since Dimensions came out, but may finally give in and get a Starter Pack so I can actually play the game this year.

I hope she will go for less then 20$ on eBay.

By in United Kingdom,

I just bought the PS4 starter pack 2 weeks ago and now they announce this. This is extremely disappointing as i have already lost faith in this game through this. They should find a way to give physical figures to owners of the ps4 starter beforehand

By in Spain,

somebody knows if this is a worldwide offer? i'm from Spain and they are going to release Lego Dimensions on september

@dylanmitchell The original Dimensions Starter Pack has been out for almost an entire year. Saying you are "extremely disappoint[ed]" is like saying you "lost faith" in Apple because you bought an iPhone 6 in August of 2015 and then they came out with the 6S a month later. News of Dimensions Year 2 products have been out for months now. I'm sorry, but there is no way you can put the blame on Dimensions in this situation.

I'm sure many people will be parting out with the Supergirl RFID disc and minifigure on eBay and Bricklink after the new Starter Pack comes out anyway.

Well... I probably wouldn't have wanted Supergirl if they released her in a normal pack but this feeling of exclusivity makes me kind of want it now...

By in United Kingdom,

And if you already have a starter pack but want this exclusive figure... you're shafted basically. Good thing I don't want the figure and I already have Superman!

The press announcement neglects to mention that many puzzles can't be completed using hire a hero because the hint blocks don't appear in the correct place or disappear before you've had chance to interact with them. However, I got all the drilling and rainbow destroy/build collectibles by hiring Emmet and Unikitty, without ever having bought them so it's not all bad.

"Forming Red Lantern Energy Constructs." This sounds ominously like a brand new power necessary for puzzles in wave 2, though we are not getting a Green Lantern pack? Maybe a Teen Titans version, but I don't know the plan with that.

So what about the exclusive figure? This Supergirl is almost identical to the one released last year in the Braniac Attack. It's not like it's hard to get her.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That is bogus. Only included in the PS4 starter pack?! Way to give the finger to anybody who owns a different console or already bought this.

So long as they don't give her exclusive powers or anything, though, this is OK with me. The minifig was in a $25 set that's still available AFAIK, at least around here, and Superman has most of the same abilities, so I don't think there's any real gameplay difference.

This should be nothing new to anyone who has ever collected Skylanders or Disney Infinity. They always have console "exclusives", however, re-releasing a starter pack with an exclusive character has never happened. I will be purchasing a pack when it is released as I know how it feels to be missing a piece from a Toys to Life game already (I'm looking at you Volcanic Vault).

^Disney Infinity had the exclusive black suit Spider Man which was only available in PS Vita starter pack and then released in a single pack the next year. Hope Lego plans on doing this and releasing Super Girl and Green Arrow in a 2 pack so everyone has a chance to own them.

This is only exclusive until March 2017. In the video game spec, it is common for a platform holder to "money hat" and secure timed exclusives like this. Same thing is happening with some of the LEGO SW TFA DLC.

By in United States,

For the prices the promo Dimensions Supergirl is going for at The Main Auction Site, you could just buy a whole new starter pack.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Planning to get this then trade everything in except supergirl, given how much she's going for on eBay! It's annoying, extremely annoying, but not unexpected.

While it's slightly better than being a convention exclusive (looking at you arrow!). This is still a low blow to anyone looking to amass a "complete" collection of dimensions playable characters (like me!). Here I thought Lego wouldn't fall prey to this exclusive silliness that plagues other toys to life games. There is ZERO question in my mind now that this won't be the last time either. Having bought characters I have no need for just to be complete, it stings quite a bit.
I do wonder if it's more WB games than Lego themselves but regardless I don't like it. We can only hope they are timed exclusives....

^Can I ask how much these things cost and what you really get for the money. We got burned by the Disney infinity concept..... its infinitely variable.... yes but you have to pay a lot of money to get it. I buy every Lego game they release....... as I generally get about 36-48hrs play time for about £35 (and normally a free figure) I have avoided Dimensions (apart from buying a set for the Marshmallow man) Is it really that much better than the normal £35 Lego games It must be £350 if you buy the lot......

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does anyone remember those really super rare preorder power discs for Disney infinity if you preorder falcon and Loki. I got mine about a month later for 5$ at GameStop.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@myscrnnm I'm pretty sure the "timed exclusive" part is referring to being able to use the character in game as a Hero for Hire on the other platforms and not in the actual minifigure being available to purchase separately later. Which is very unfortunate.

By in Australia,

This will probably come out as a polybag as soon as the exclusivity deal ends, so keep your collective pants on.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

What bothers me the most is that she is, at the moment, exclusive to PS4. Since I own the game for Xbox one, I want some exclusivity for that console aswell. It was the same thing with Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens, where ps4 has several exclusive dlc:s and none for other consoles. I don't like one bit! This has to come to an end....

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is the same exact minifigure that came with the Brainiac set, right?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Irritating to say the least, not just to non-PS4 gamers but also to people like me who already have a starter pack and many of the expansions. I hope that - as happened to Disney Infinity - this is just an exclusive for a while then rereleased down the road for everyone else. The character rental function in the game only allows you to play for sixty seconds as the rented characters (I think) so its pretty much useless.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well this pretty much blows! Let's hope it's like boba fett in infinity and it just gets realised as a single pack later

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is a right royal pain, one of my daughters is named after Supergirl and will demand she gets to play her in the game if she finds out. So I guess she will just have to play Batman 3 instead where she and her sister can play as Supergirl and Miss Martian and not have to get a specialised figure.

For the record however if someone wants the figure but not the disc I can happily take the Supergirl Disc off you for a small amount!

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Your daughter is named Supergirl. That's neat! (p.s., I'm snarky :))

But I agree, it does seem a bit silly to do this from a fan perspective, but from a business perspective, it is as old as time.

Either way, I would like to get a Supergirl figure for my daughter, but I think I will wait until the new DC female Super Heroes sets come out next year. They have to have a Super Girl right? Even if it is a high school based tv show.

By in Canada,

Bummer. Already own the game on PS4, and have no problems paying money (day one) to get everything. And I do mean everything. But I guess I won't be getting this :(

By in United States,

If all the fans complained to LEGO and the game developers, we may make some headway, maybe. Worth a shot.

By in Spain,
