PromoBricks has our first look at a previously-unknown, upcoming Seasonal set - a Toy Soldier Christmas tree ornament (5004420).

There is no word yet on how you will be able to obtain it, whether it is a freebie or purchasable, and the piece count, among other things. However I suspect it will be available exclusively from the online LEGO Shop and brand stores in some way during this holiday season. We will keep you updated!

What is your opinion? I think it is pretty cute, but that is quite the smile it has got there...

First comment... yaay...

Ok, the last 2 years in December - this was a free giveaway (2014 is xmas train ornament + 2015 is hanging tree ornament) with $50 purchase. I cannot see why it is not the same again this year.

I bet $20 that there is a 2016 dated piece somewhere on the ornament too (likely the backside given that we do not see it in the pic).

I don't think that modified 1x2 plate is a smile, I think it is a big bushy Mustache! :) really fun little build

I am really looking forward to this! I have been trying to make it a habit to collect each year's dated Christmas tree ornament and to keep the entire collection. This one looks great (especially the awesome mustache!) Really hope LEGO continues to release these in the future!

40223 is probably the November GWP, I bet!

Based on the drawstring bag, it looks like the complimentary annual Christmas ornament that is given out to VIP members at LEGO Stores by redeeming a postcard they receive in the mail (last year being a Christmas tree, and a train the year before). But those had a printed 1x2 tile with the year on it.

@TheBrickPal
Yes you are correct (and that set is already in my wanted list) - I speculate that other set will be Black Friday giveaway in November, but we never can tell with LEGO.

Looks pretty easy to build from spare parts, if you cannot get it.

By in Germany,

I would say the annual giveaway is 40223, as it fits in with what we got in the last few years both in size and piece count. This toy soldier looks too small in comparison.

By the way, what is this "annual complimentary Christmas ornament" some have mentioned. I have been a VIP for several years now but have never gotten a postcard to redeem or even a code in the shop newsletter or anywhere else. Anyone know if this is something not available in Germany?

The model number is consistent with the last two VIP holiday gifts. The train was 5002813, the tree was 5003083, and now 5004420. The printed 2016 element may appear on the back of the soldier.

Yeah, I think the black pieces there look like they're the soldier's mustache.

I mean, I don't think they look like anything in particular at all, but I think they're *meant* to be his mustache.

Will look good with my tree from last year

The small print below the photo on the PromoBricks site only says it's free with any purchase in the Berlin store from 24 Nov. onwards. It doesn't mention any minimum spend nor that it's only for VIP members.
(I also think it's a moustache, but it certainly looks very odd. There is no chin and mouth between the moustache and the neck.)

Nice, the ornaments have grown on me as they really are something nice to put on a tree.

Not as creepy as past exclusives! :P

Further to Michel W, you need to pick up a voucher in Berlin at the store to then collect for free with any purchase. Vouchers are on the back of the store leaflet whilst the store is being renovated.
