New features in response to survey comments

Posted by ,

Have you completed our survey yet? If not please do because we are already acting on your comments and suggestions.

Today I have implemented three new features that have been requested by survey respondents:

  • If you are logged in you will now see a 'xxx wanted' link at the top of the page that links to your wanted list.
  • Also if you are logged in, you will find a list of your recent comments to news articles linked to in My Menu above. You may find this useful to remind yourself what you have been commenting on.
  • To help you keep track of current and future offers and promotions at shop.LEGO.com, I have created a calendar showing all known ones. You will find this on the Buy page at the top. It will show offers relevant to your country.

I could also post a news article once a week with the calendar embedded in it, but given the feedback in the survey about disliking all the lists and so on that are posted automatically, I will hold off from doing so.

I am not going to respond to any of the themes that are emerging from the survey in depth until it has ended but one thing I will say is, please, read the frequently asked questions before suggesting new features. There are loads of comments asking 'I would like to be able to do this, that or the other...' only for whatever they are requesting to be possible already. Perhaps the fact such commenters have not found the feature for themselves suggests that they are not well sign-posted, so if anyone has suggestions on how to improve that, I would love to hear them.

Promotion calendar is definitely a handy feature :-)

^^ It's not easy due to the data coming from BrickLink and that's how they categorise them.

Awesome, love these new features that while unwanted by me I am sure to be able to get good use of them, specially when May 4 comes around ;)

Great!
Is the "xxx wanted" only visible on the desktop site? I don't see it on the mobile page.

^^ It is. There's not room for it on small screens, especially if people have long user names.

I've replied to the survey, but didn't have any specific suggestions. Having said that, the new features that you have implemented are excellent, especially the LEGO Shop current and future offers!

Just a question, when will this year's Bricktober sets from TRU be uploaded onto the site? Unless they're already on here and I've just missed them.

I generally don't read reviews unless I'm particularly uncertain about getting a set or not, because I don't want spoilers - I'd like to discover the cool things as the build progresses. Which means I can't really have an opinion on the reviews on Brickset... and apparently, that means I can't complete the survey. Surely that wasn't your intention?

What are the chances of getting the ability to search sets by more than one part? Because that'd be super useful

First off, kudos to Huw and the rest for the staff for keeping such a great website running. The quick link for Wanted sets is useful. I also have suggestion regarding Set collection analysis. (http://brickset.com/mycollection/sets/table)

I was wondering if it would it be possible to add or change the % Owned under sets so that it only takes into account Wanted sets? For example: I Own 15 Alpha Team sets, there are 16 unowned but out of those I only want 9. It would be much more helpful if % Owned displayed 63% (15/24 owned/owned+wanted) instead of 48% (15/31 owned/all sets in the theme) This could be done by changing the existing value or adding a new column. I think this percentage would be so much more helpful for collectors.

By in Belgium,

How great is it you already start implementing stuff while the survey is still going. Well done. Like the comment thing and love the calendar - always good to have a quick check, thanks a lot.

Thank you for the promotions table under 'Buy' - very handy!

I like the xxx Wanted link - how often does it refresh the figure? I've removed a fair few, but the figure isn't updating - even if I log in via a different browser (so don't think it's a cache issue my end)

By in Norway,

Thanks Huw for the easy access to the wanted list. Was something like this i suggested in the last year survey.

Thank you Huw! And even that quick! :-)

Some great new features introduced already! Wow!

Cheers, Huw! :-)

One other thing that would be great, but didn't think of when completing the survey, would be some kind of shopping list highlighting offers on wanted sets.

Great job at continually adding new features to this site. Thanks for the hard work and brickset.com has become my go to place for Lego stuff.

^^ SigmundBjorn, go here http://brickset.com/buy/country-us/order-percentdiscount and then under the dropdown for "My Collection" choose "Wanted". This will give you a list of discounts in the US at major retailers for sets on your wanted list. (I don't know what other countries this is available for though, sorry!)
