Free Toy Soldier ornament at shop.LEGO.com
Posted by Huw,
Collecting Christmas ornaments, marked with the year they were first sold, seems to be becoming increasingly popular. My wife has been accumulating those made by another famous Danish company, Georg Jensen, for about 12 years now. Whenever I pass through Billund airport I am tasked with buying the latest one. It is now becoming a job to find room to display them all every year!
Not to be outdone, LEGO has been producing its own recently. 5002813 Christmas Train Ornament was the first in 2014, followed by 5003083 Christmas Ornament last year. This year's one, 5004420 Toy Soldier, is now the free gift with purchases over £25/30€ at shop.LEGO.com in Europe until the 23rd of November, and is still available in the USA until the 15th.
The models themselves are unremarkable but the packaging is delightful, and they come with a unique printed tile.
Please place your orders via these links (USA | Canada | UK | Germany | France) and read a short review after the break.
The main attraction is the packaging...
...a silky draw-string pouch with LEGO label. I believe previous years' were green and red. This one as you can see is a dark blue.
The parts, in two polythene bags, and instructions are inside.
The toy soldier is pleasant enough but I do not think you would go out of your way to acquire it if it were not for the packaging and...
... the printed 2x2 tile showing the year of release, 2016.
As I say, it is pretty unremarkable, but it is a great collectable. Best of all is the price -- free -- which is a lot less than Georg Jensen is charging for his 2016 Christmas mobile...

That bag is pretty neat.
I do like these little ornament sets. I got the tree last year and the soldier this year just by happenstance, wasn't trying to get them just happened to buy sets and got em. Very cool tho, glad I got them.
I believe they are OOS online in the US.
I looked and it's not being added to my bag.
I think they are out of stock in europe too...
