There is still time to enter our competitions
Posted by TheBrickPal,
We are about a month in now, so it is time again for us to remind you about the two competitions we have going on right now...
- Design a tribe of three Mixels for a chance to win a Caterham 7, Yellow Submarine or Adventure Time Ideas set.
- Design a Star Wars set we suggested in our 'What's Missing?' series and you could win a set of your choice from the 2017 line-up.
Entries are due in just about a month and judging will take place early next year. Check out the individual articles for more information, and then show us your mad building skills on Flickr and Instagram!

A month in? Geez I better get building..
Is there a price limit in choosing what set(s) we want if we win for the Star Wars contest? Is it just 2017 sets? This is a great idea and btw i love brickset you guys are a great lego fan site and i haven't, to this date, found any site better than this! Keep up the good work!
^ Yes, the limit is t.b.a.
Just waiting on one more batch of bricks to come in! Hopefully there's some more entries, I'm not seeing the same variety that there was in the mixels max contests, advent calendar contest, or mighty micros contest. Then again, oftentimes the best entries show up at the last minute, so I'm sure there will be many more in the weeks to come.
I also love the stipulation that entries are to be built to be like actual sets. Many places Lego contests devolve into whoever has the most pieces or comes up with the most creative building techniques. The models look great, obviously, but they're not really realistic. The piece count limit helps, of course, and I think the challenge of designing an actual set really helps ad well.
One quick question: I want to add a video as well, even though it won't be taken into account during judging, what's the best way to go about doing that? Should I add it to the group in place of one of the five photos? Add it in addition to the photos? Or just throw it in the description of the photos?
Upload to flickr as well as the 5 images, or add a link in a description to it on YouTube if you prefer.
Wow, I was totally surprised when I checked out the site today and found that you chose to use my image for the article. It is such an honor. I can't thank you enough.
Sincerely,

... does anyone else really want a set of those train mixels? Damn. They look great!
^^ You're very welcome! They're fantastic.
Thanks for setting up these competitions. I am working on another lego project right now and don't want to put in the extra hours to sumit a set. But next competition...
any way, thanks a lot hope to see a lot of intersting sets. And those mixels do look cool, any chance of building instructions or more pics of them? Thanks
I have recently designed a MAX cobination for my train mixels and was wondering if I could upload that as a sixth picture.
On a side note, I will probably upload a speed build video of them to flickr or youtube later today. I can also produce a slower version of the build video if anyone is interested.
^^ I have uploaded a build video at https://www.flickr.com/photos/146312855 @N03/31000052821/in/pool-2970457 @N24/
I hope it helps you build them
I was just wondering if entries posted on Instagram get an equal chance at winning as entries posted on Flickr? I only ask because I've never seen an entry from Instagram win a competition here and the entries on Flickr seem to get more publicity. I haven't entered yet but I forgot my Flickr password so I'll have to make a new one, although it would be easier to put them on Instagram.
@Sir Brickalot:
From the Mighty Micros contest earlier this year: "We used our usual method for judging: we whittled down the hundreds of entries on Flickr and Instagram to a shortlist of sixteen. Each judge then chose five which were scored appropriately (most favourite one = 5 points etc.) and the scores were then added together."
I'm pretty sure they just pull any entries that have a lick of a chance and put them all together, then whittle down by removing the worst ones of the group until there's only 16 left. After the initial period the entries are likely in one big group.
Statistically it's unlikely for an Instagram entry to win because A) There's far less of them; and B) Most Lego fans who share their creations already use Flikr for it, and likely use it to enter the contest. So many of those that enter via Instagram are people who don't MoC a lot or don't share them. Basically, it's not that the judges won't pick an Instagram entry, it's that the entry that a judge picks is far more likely to be a fickr entry, due to the imbalance of how models are entered.
@Brick Belt
Thanks for that, does make more sense now. I created a new Flickr and entered my first entry that way.
I just want to clarify something for the SW contest, can we make our own minifig lineup or do we have to stick to ones suggested?
