Enter our Mixel-Making Competition!
Posted by TheBrickPal,
The LEGO Mixels theme is, as of this month, all done and dusted. We received a whopping eighty-one sets in three years. Within the nine series we got a grand total of 24 unique tribes with three in each branch.
There are so many more possibilities for the universe that will now never be realised - officially, at least. That is where you come in! While we have hosted Max model competitions before, now we want you to take full advantage of that unused tribe potential.
More details after the break...
Here is what you have to build:
Imagine you are part of the LEGO Mixels design team. In this hypothetical scenario, the theme would still be thriving and set to continue into 2017 and beyond.
We would like you to design a tribe of three Mixels as if they were official LEGO sets for worldwide release. They could be anything - based on the elemental tribes of 2014, the random themed ones of 2015, the occupational tribes of Mixopolis city in 2016... or practically anything else. Super Heroes? Office workers? Triffids? You decide!
Entries will be judged on the following:
- Play value
- Color coordination
- Personality
- Creativity in both theme and part usage
- Adherence to the pricing guidelines provided*.
You are welcome to also design a Max model for the tribe or include a generic/themed Nixel, too; however, these elements will not be judged.
*Keep in mind that all Mixels, Series 1-9 are priced £2.99 / $4.99 / 3.99€ each, ranging from 45 to 73 pieces. Therefore, please try to keep each Mixel model in an approximately 40 to 80 piece range; thanks.
How to enter:
- Upload a maximum of five photos of your entry, displaying each Mixel individually as well as group shots from the front and back, to the Brickset Flickr group set up for this competition or post your entry on Instagram using the hashtag #BricksetMixelsCompetition.
- Please attach a short paragraph with the tribe name, what the tribe revolves around, and where they live (a region of Planet Mixel? Mixel Moon?). Then, create a sentence or two each to describe the personalities of the individual three Mixels in the tribe. Make sure to include Mixel names and be as punny as you want!
- Multiple entries are permitted.
Other information:
- Unfortunately we are not able to accept LDD or other virtual creations.
- Please do not include any references to sex, drugs, alcohol, politics, religion etc. in your entry. Use common sense.
- Custom and non-LEGO components are not permitted.
- Although we will not be judging your photographic skills, please try to light your models evenly and photograph them against a clean background.
- Please upload your entries by 23:59 GMT on the 31st of December.
- To give the judges time to properly consider all entries, winners will be announced early in 2017.
- The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
We are in the process of assembling an exceptionally qualified panel of judges, but we can reveal that it will include LEGO Mixels designer Gemma Anderson!
Prizes:
We have some exciting prizes lined up for the winners - a selection of the most recent and upcoming Ideas sets...
- 1st prize: 21307 Caterham Seven 620R
- 2nd prize: 21306 The Beatles Yellow Submarine
- 3rd prize: 21308 Adventure Time
Plus, the top three will each receive high-quality cartoon depictions of all three Mixels in their tribe, drawn by a talented artist friend of mine.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.
Good luck! Thanks to AnimaRiley for the logo.

Excellent - and thanks for the good long time to get creative.
Already built my first entry!
Nice! I might enter!
This is awesome. Gonna do my best to participate!
This should be fun; will do my best to enter!
This could be fun... I just might enter. Though I do have some other projects I need to work on...
Man, I love the idea . . . But two contests at once is intense. I'm glad there's a long entry period, though! It'd be cool if Brickset starting hosting regular contests, like quarterly or something.
I'm tempted ... thank goodness for that December 25th deadline. That gives me a chance to get back to my Lego collection back home and try this out!
Liking the Bake Off style wording on a Wednesday comp.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to join, but looking at it, it's probably going to be lots of fun; so, if you CAN join, you SHOULD. =)
So, I did this with the MM contest, but I just want to make sure, it's ok if I email you the pictures for my entry, right?
Looks like tons of fun! I'll look into joining!
^^ Only as a last resort. We'd prefer you to use flickr or Instagram.
I just came up with a great idea for this! I'm not going to share it because I'm evil! Mwhahahahahaha
^^ I'm sorry, I don't have access to either. :/
^If you're talking about the video where they got the message from Customer Service, so many people have gotten practically carbon copies of that message, and they're not the best source to deal form.
Hi!
Maybe I give this a go, but is this Mixel-Making Competition for everyone in the world?
^ Yes
I´ll give it a try. I need that second prize!
Hmm I have an idea, but I have a feeling I won't be the only one to do it...
I had an idea... but it didn't work... meh, back to planning my custom advent calendar I guess.
^ See the "Other information" section.
Too sad that Flickr doesn't work for me - tried to enter a competition before, but my images never showed up - wish there was another way/platform for entries.
Is this contest open world-wide or only for amercian afols?
Can we edit the photos? For example, for each individual mixel's photo I may want to include both the front and back views (Basically merging two photos into one/two views into one photo).
^^ Open worldwide. :-)
^ I don't see why not!
None of my photos are showing in the flickr group when I am in public view. How do I fix this? the privacy is set to public
I am so going to do this!!!!!!!
It is so fun!!!
It would be great to keep my Mixels interest for a few more months.
