Disney Moana sets revealed
Posted by CapnRex101,
Disney has dominated the box office this year and Moana looks set to continue that trend. LEGO is capitalising on the inevitable popularity of the film and two sets will be available next weekend in North America, with a later release in January for the rest of the world.
Official images of 41149 Moana's Island Adventure and 41150 Moana's Ocean Voyage have been revealed today on Hoth Bricks and you can view them after the break...

That sail looks pretty neat.
Oh wow my girls better not notice these exist >< I'll never hear the end of it heh heh. But that big fig looks great.
There's more than a touch of 'Enchanted Island' about these sets - as you would expect. I'm a sucker for foliage and there's certainly plenty here!
I am really disapointed. Maui figure looks VERY cool at the first sight but then when I saw Just2good review I saw his back is not printed. The chicken lacks whites in eyes (like all Friends birds for some reason (and looks nothing like in the movie). Moana looks good but the shoe like naked feet looks weird.
Mixed thoughts on these. The figures look great but some of the design choices on each of the models make the whole thing look ugly. Some minor improvements and they'd all look perfect. Of course, I've yet to see the movie so I don't know how much one can change.
Rooster and baby pig!
(...and monkey heads?)
I'm not super excited about either of these sets, but I'm REALLY excited about the movie, and I think once I've seen it and have a better context for these sets I think I will appreciate them more. I do love the catamaran and island scenery, and they feel like stronger set designs than many past Disney Princess sets.
It's neat that these sets include the first bigfig in a mini-doll theme. The standard bigfig design works about as well with mini-dolls as with mini-figs, perhaps because it occupies sort of a middle ground between the mini-doll's curves and the minifigure's angles. I hope we see even more variety in body types for mini-doll themes in the future so we can see characters like Ursula or the Sultan of Agrabah.
I'm really grateful that LEGO is not delaying on creating sets based on this movie, since they were pretty late to the game on Frozen. Granted, I have no idea whether this will be anywhere near as big a phenomenon as Frozen was, but even if it's not, having two sets out around the movie's release is not a tremendous risk.
If they can do a Big Fig for Maui, why not for Beast in the Beauty and the Beast castle?
To me Island Adventure looks plain and boring. Like there is nothing special in it that would make me buy it. All the goodness is in the Ocean Voyage set; both main characters, nice sailboat, monkey heads, rooster, other interesting parts. That's the set I'm going to get. Really looking forward to the movie too!
I need that roster.
@natro220: The standard bigfig design would be far too wide to recreate the ballroom dancing scene with Belle and the Beast. Also, having him as a mini-doll makes it easier to "transform" him from fearsome beast to handsome prince. I agree it's not a perfect solution (among other issues, the Beast shouldn't have shoes, socks, or gloves), but I can see why the LEGO Group went with that approach.
Hmm... A big fig in a minidoll set? Do minidolls and minifigs exist in the same universe? Are they like different races or species? Are we going to see more of these crossovers?
Also, is the guy from the movie really supposed to be so big? Isn't he just meant to be a muscular human? As opposed to, ya know, Darkside and Hulk?
@Greendude: Maui is a demigod. Judging from pics of him and Moana side by side (https://peopledotcom.files.wordpress.com/2016/08/moana-01-800.jpg), Moana's head should reach about up to his chin, so the LEGO version's height seems about right (maybe just a bit oversized since the LEGO version's knees are bent and Maui should be around that same height with his knees straight). And like the LEGO version, Maui's fists are slightly larger than a normal human's head.
my daughter wants these along with belles castle, i quite like them the minidoll could be used as an extra friend for the heartlake girls,
