Christmas Build-Up: Day 9
Posted by TheBrickPal,
It is time to see what the Christmas Build-Up's Day 9 has to offer us, after yesterday's little dud.
And it appears to be so much better! This candy cane invokes the holiday season quite satisfactorily, with the perfect color scheme and a pretty good look to it. I really like the inclusion of a red bow, too. Simple, but effective! I think the studded area at the top could have benefitted from some tiling, though.
Overall - 4.5 - Not much to complain about here... but what do you think?

It's at least (a) more Christmas-themed and (b) moderately recognisable, although a blocky candy cane just seems a little odd. But it's a step in the right direction, at least.
It's a shame... as of yeaterday I think I've officially given up building these. It's just not worth the hassle taking things apart to build something that is so lame. And that's coming from someone who gets way too excited at opening the regular calendars every day. Think I'll just look through the instructions and build my fave few and call it a day.
Why not with 1x1 round bricks? It looks too blocky like this.
And a general question: Is there any info which combination of daily builds can be built at the same time? Someone could write a software calculating it knowing the needed parts of a model/all parts.
Yooha - no problem, just give me list of bricks for each model, this is the hardest part:)
Found them on rebrickable, so I will come up with smth.
This model is just so-so. Just looking at photo, I'm trying to figure out how the slopes are attached to form the bow.
It's a 2.5/5 for me. IMHO, the model would look a little nicer by replacing the 1x3 white brick with a 1x3 white plate topped with a white cheese slope at each end, Between those 2 white cheese slopes, stack a 1x1 white tile on top of a 1x1 white plate (all of which are included in this set). This would give a better 'curve' to the candy cane. The low marks from me are mostly because this model doesn't use any interesting building techniques, unless you count the way the red cheeses are attached to the 4632572 "lamp holder" plate.
Finally I understand what the build actually is.
Yes, a bit blocky, that candy cane. I skipped the mouse and still got the complete cane, plane and fireplace!

4.5? Really?
@TheBrickPal There are enough red tiles to do the job. Although they should be green with the given pattern.
^ Of course you can do it with the available parts, but I'm going by the instructions.
^^ Yes, 4.5! It's called an opinion. :-)
