Star Wars 'What's Missing?' building contest - deadline extended!

Posted by ,

Our Star Wars 'What's Missing?' building contest is nearing its end but we have decided to extend the deadline to allow people to build over the Christmas period. The competition will therefore be closing at 23:59 GMT on the 31st of December so there are a couple more weeks to prepare your entries. Plenty of excellent models have already been submitted since the competition began and you can remind yourself of the rules here.

We have now decided on the prizes, which are as follows:

  • 1st place - A set of your choice up to a value of $150.
  • 2nd place - A set of your choice up to a value of $80.
  • 3rd place - A set of your choice up to a value of $50.

Furthermore, this is a perfect opportunity to have your work appraised by an official LEGO Star Wars designer as Hans Burkhard Schlömer will be part of the judging panel!

Good luck!

Which ones do you like?

I like both the tie bombers

In the 90s some of the technic sets used to include 4 mm hoses and asked the builder to cut them to the appropriate size. is it permissible to cut a hose to a custom size?

^ Yes.

By in Canada,

I was hesitant to enter before because the se descriptions in the what's missing articles were quite restrictive but in reflection I might as well give it a try.

Excellent! I have two sets almost ready for photographing, but now I may have time for more!

By in Australia,

Are there rules surrounding which set we choose? Like a specific wave or year?

I really want the instructions for the expanded Battle on Takodana set so I can add to mine.

Glad to see an extension! I've got my entry in, but I'm sure people can agree that this contest is a little more involved than the Mixels one. Planning and building a 600-800 piece creation is intensive.

The speeder chase, Yoda's hut, and TIE Bomber sets all look excellent! Still hoping LEGO will make official versions of those.

Haha, I rushed to finish and upload my entry yesterday, and then I see this today. I guess I could try another. Hmm...

ANY set of your choice at those price points? Or just Star Wars?

So if you win first place, can you choose a few sets that total up to $150? Like what if they want a $50 set and still have $100 left - could it be turned into a gift card or something?

Are the pictures on the flickr page every entry or is that only some? Also i have the same question as @2cute4you Is it any 2017 set or just star wars? AND i have the same question as @CM4Sci is it one set or anything that adds up to $150?

A lot of these look really neat. I think the one pictured in this article is the winner, though. It's accurate, well designed and authentic looking. LEGO would've probably put more play features in it, though.

I am so entering this!

There are some really great ideas! I specifically like the Dagobah designs.

Are we allowed to create custom stickers or use markers to draw on bricks, making them look like printed parts?

Dagobah and Speeder Chase related proposals all look quite promising. It begs the question as to why TLG insists on re-releasing or slightly updating older sets whereas there is great potential as displayed here.

Oh good, this ought to give me time to finish my droid factory and (with luck) maybe another!

The Yoda Jedi Starfighter is far better than the LEGO version coming this Spring. LEGO sure is getting lazy...
