Fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By in United States,

If I try to see this as a steam-punk or post-apocalyptic vehicle then I like it. Otherwise, It's just not really a ship. No? Just floating selection of ribs and a hint of planking. Wow, it's big! (That's better, right)

Gravatar
By in United States,

The hull is not solid. Rather skeletal-looking. 2200 pieces.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like it, it's different to anything else we have seen. And how many times have people said on the forums, we want different things to the normal rehash.. Good job Lego!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Neat.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I collect ships and this is not something I actually think I want to add to the collection, very disappointing after such incredible previous POTC sets - almost a technic wannabe.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wait, wait, wait. But Lego how am I supposed to roll this around on my carpet?

Gorgeous ship I say, but any semblance playability is a no no unfortunately.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

more pieces than the Imperial Flagship!

Gravatar
By in United States,

A bit disappointing that there's no Will Turner minifigure, but it looks great! Definitely going on my wishlist.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks fragile but I like it. The Brickheadz on the other hand... Theyre an abomination.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I get it, its a sunk ship, hence broken looking but wouldn't it still have some hull, a hull with some holes, gaps, may have looked better

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why are nearly all the pictures from a low angle showing the underside?

It seems to me they'd try to take them from a higher angle, where people can see the deck and all of that. They'd also avoid showing all the messy looking technic elements and framework and everything that's below. The last photo is fine, but the first two look pretty bad.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Not what I expected, but looks great. It seems to have a lot of play features.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I will be adding this to my wanted list, not sure that I like how the underside looks though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks amazing!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm trying to figure out, what's the point?

Honestly if there were other sets and smaller ships I would see this timing into the movie, but there aren't. Is this really going to please anyone? It's not going to please Pirate fans because it's not a full boat. As a display piece the top looks cool and the bottom half looks like LEGO needed to spend several more weeks on the design.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dang I was really hoping for a set more like the Black Pearl. It is an interesting display piece but I feel the Pearl is the real iconic ship of the series (plus the fact none of the sequels have been very good too means I fear this ship will be easily forgettable compared to the Pearl.)

I was also hoping there was a chance the ship they would make would have been similar to something from the original California theme park ride to display it along with last years Disney Castle, so this is also a bit of a let down in that regard.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@Jedijon: It's a ghost ship. Don't see what's steampunk or post-apoc about that — ghost ships are pretty traditional fantasy fare.

Anyway, glad to hear that the price is lower than what was rumored ($200 instead of $250). With a piece count of over 2200, it seems like a pretty fair value at that price. Overall I'm really impressed!

By the way, for anyone curious, this set was designed by Marcos Bessa.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Not really a fan although I am sure there will be some. I was wishing for a real ship as I have missed all those from years gone by.

Gravatar
By in Saudi Arabia,

AMAZING!!! Although I won't be able to buy it, no place to put such a thing. But I do hope they could rerelease the Black Pearl and Queen Anne's Revenge with improvement. This is a very amazing set

Gravatar
By in United States,

WAAAOHHH!!! The bottom is a bit of a let down; a bit too uniform and a bit too much technic, but the top is amazing. Love the castleish stuff going on there.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm really tempted. As a ghost ship it's amazing; I would've preferred a more solid hull with missing planks (maybe with octopi and seaweed and stuff sticking out of the gaps), but I could work with this. Also, it could be really interesting to build it a custom display space...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Have any of you seen the trailer for the new movie? "A few missing planks" doesn't even begin to describe the ghost ship shown in it...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I really wanted an real new Pirate Ship. Don't like this one. Maybe it gives me an kick when i see it in real.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For what it is, I think LEGO did a good job with it. If Marcos designed it, then good deal. he usually does large sets justice. But looking at it, I can easily save 200$.

A ghost ship is a neat idea, but I think Dutchman would always be a better ship to release AND it looks like Will Turner is in the movie, meaning the Dutchman will be in the movie as well. But I guess he isn't the big bad guy, so they had to release something different.

I wouldn't mind getting Salazar and some ghost pirates, but the ship itself I can skip out on. I like the figures for new prints. Hopefully they won't be too expensive considering most are no named non-iconic characters, as of yet.

But like someone else said, the pictures aren't that great right now. Maybe a video or other pictures might make me change my mind. But at $200, I doubt it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

While everything about it looks awesome, I don't fancy the way the ship is held up on the clear bricks.

Gravatar
By in United States,

oh, well....kinda like shredding $200

I actually like the little buildable figures, except for the fact that they are only 2" tall. ...they are smaller then the pix.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Classicsmiley - yes, but I'm talking in terms of how I'd do a ghost ship, not how well I think it works as a model of the actual ship in the movie. It's the former that interests me (I'd be intrigued by one with or without the POTC franchise), not the latter.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

It appears many prefer: More of the same, more of the same, more of the same, more of the same, more of the same, please!
I like what is odd, strange and unusual.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

And what is really odd: the cannons are resting on the rotted away floors.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm guessing £200 if it's $200

Gravatar
By in United States,

Will make a fine addition to the Monster Fighters department.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I really like the design of the set very much and I will probably buy it within the first week of release. I especially love that the ship can rear up and it actually is pretty accurate to the movie as can be seen in the trailer at 0:28. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XibzC-e_s5M

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Hey, let's make a set with over 2000 pieces and as little play value as possible! Boom! Here we go! And those stands? Ugh.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can see what they were going for with this, not sure it worked.
The stern is amazing though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I quite like the bare underbelly with the planks, however it may be OCD but I wouldn't just let that mast dangle down like that, even if it is a sunken ship!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm sure there are many far better uses of 2200 pieces.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Where was it found that Marcos designed this set?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The ship - really rather hideous

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the idea of a ghost ship, but I'll pass because it doesn't have a full hull.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The very first thing I'd do is mod a proper hull on this. I'm not sure about the overall dimensions and if the current ones will fit, but I'm guessing I'm not the only one who will attempt this so that it will be somewhat playable.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I can understand the critics about this new set, as I wish they would release the Flying Dutchman, too. But as Sinthoras mentioned, I think they did a quite good job on beeing accurate with the trailer. A loose hull which can form a nice bow, for me it seems like it can make a kind of a snake-like move with the loose planks. All in all I think its a great set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I doubt I'll get it (because >budget) but I think it looks pretty cool. Definitely giving off a ghost ship vibe more than anything else we've seen from TLG (with the exception of the Spongebob Flying Dutchman, or course)

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I like that the set is original in it's design. I would buy it to go next to my Queen Anne's Revenge, but the 200€+ sets that are on my list before this are The Simpsons sets, the Temple of Airjitzu and some of the Star Wars UCS sets.

There was a leaked image of a lego zombie shark a few months ago, similar to the ones that appeared in the latest trailer. As the shark doesn't seem to be included in this set (unless there's more to the set), maybe it's possible to get more PotC sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fantastic. So glad they didn't go a generic ship route.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

What I'd like to know, is this it as far as Pirates of the Caribbean sets? A couple of Brickheadz (no interest) and one giant, expensive set? They're not doing any regular sets at all?

Gravatar
By in United States,

How bizarre to have a crows nest and a vertically masted sail out on the tip of the jibboom. (Or even were it on the bowsprit.)

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

No firing cannons, no ship hulls and "literally" no sail pieces. What a flagship!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Some of the Ghost pirates have transparent printed pieces (like heads and legs).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Tell me I'm not the only one feeling disappointed! I was dreaming of flying dutchman all these days, and now you give me this skeleton rather than a real ship? Though I have to admit it may be difficult to create something new with traditional hull parts given so many previous good ships like the imperial flagship and queen anne's revenge. Lego is also looking for a new path for ship design. 2200 pieces, I guess a lot of pieces have been used to form that skeleton-like hull, so with so many more pieces(2200 to 1664), the ship is even shorter than the imperial flagship(26inches to 30 inches). It's not beautiful but it's cool. I'm in such conflicting mood, wanna have it, but just don't like it that much.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Aanchir - well, we both KNOW it's a ghost-ship. Lemme try 'gain.

AS a ghost ship it's dumb (imho), because I want a SHIP. In ship models there is full hull and waterline. Lego has produced essentially a waterline version here. One that ends in a repetitive shag-carpeting looking mess. Different than other "ships of the line". But, I'm not really here to elucidate why it's no bueno.

That's why I say - when I stop and remove my mental filters--I can easily see this as either A) steampunk or B) post-Apoc...and I like it. More anyway. Not much. But, more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Holy ghost ship Batman! Where's the rest of that thing?

Gravatar
By in United States,

From what I have seen from the trailers, it looks accurate, also disappointed there is no hull pieces but the way lego has made the ship seems faithful to the ship they are trying to replicate. I just want to know if all those cannons are full sized lego cannons

Gravatar
By in United States,

THE EYES!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really superb design. Kudos to TLG to having the stones to make 2017 the Year of Trying Things Differently. I am getting two of these.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Don't care about the Minifigs, the parts selection is okay, BUT MY GOD I WANT THOSE SAILS!!! I love cloth elements they're so versatile and fun to build with, and us Bionicle builders have been making great uses of them for years. A plethora of dark tan tattered looking elements could do a lot in figure building. Maybe a ghost, or Lagoon monster? The possibilities are quite vast. I can't wait for people to part out this set on Bricklink. Imma definitely gonna need some of those.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gosh... this is really a tough one.

On the one hand, I think it doesn't seem worth $199.99, mainly because of the "incompleteness"?!?! I do like the sails and the sand green elements down near the broken hull. It would probably seem more worth it if it were partially hidden in the "sand" at the bottom of the water.

On the other hand, it's definitely a beautiful yet solemn model. LEGO are typically supposed to be uplifting whereas this is kind of a burial for the CMF's that once manned it. It's a "work of art" which a lot of LEGO is... but in a different way.

I'll prolly definitely buy the POC brick heads... but as for Silent Mary, I'm not "sold" as of now, maybe never.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh yea, I am definitely buying all three of these. I loved the theme in 2014 and still love it today. A little bit pricey considering the bottom of the ship is empty and it only has one deck, but I think the back makes up for it. Unless more pictures come out and it looks totally barren, I will definitely buy at least one. Can't wait to see the movie either.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

UK price = GB£180 = NZ$312
US price = US$200 = NZ$278

And the actual NZ price? That'll be a mind-boggling, eye-watering, wallet-petrifying NZ$370. So that's "only" 19% more than the UK (lucky us!!!) but a quite staggeringly unjustifiable THIRTY THREE PER CENT more than the US price.

Sounds like they're overworking their random number generator (the one that's biased towards utterly screwing some markets in favour of others) at the Internation Pricing Department, LEGO HQ, Billund. I hope they choke on a 4x2, slowly and painfully....

That fact that the set itself is an ugly mess of a job just makes the pricing seem even more laughable than it already is!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow.

LOL at the people who are like "there's no hull." This is a ghost ship. It's supposed to look dead. The literal ribs of the ship are showing. Did people not see the trailer?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Amazing model, can't wait.
I am however surprised that this seems to be the only tie in besides the brick heads (which do not count). A few more pirate-related sets would be much appreciated...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

£180 for UK seems reasonable. Nice

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like an interesting build, but I'm not really that psyched up about it. Also, the price seems to be pretty steep price for this model. That said, I'm sure I'll snag one copy though. Although I understand why it wasn't done, I do wish TLG had released a Flying Dutchman...even at a higher price point.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I look it, I like the design of it a lot. It is very creative. But, the one thing I do not like, because it looks wrong is the light bluish gray cannons. It would look better if they made them in BL Speckle Black-Copper or TLG 306 Copper Diffuse, which I know that TLG hasn’t used since 2006. The ship should look more like it has been under the sea. To me it is a ghost ship that looks too clean still. Even 139 Copper / Copper that they brought back would look better.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've not watched the latest trailer with the ship in as someone said it was a bit spoiler-ish. But i have seen a still of the Silent Mary from it and this is pretty spot on. The skeletal frame, towers and the front rising up.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks like 2 ghost sharks included...

Gravatar
By in United States,

2200 pieces, 25% will be technic pins like the Joker Low Rider car...

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Got my hands on it last night, took a while to build. it looks fantastic and is very detailed. however, this this thig is FRAGILE. there's no safe point to grab it from, so build it, put it somewhere nive and leave it there. it also includes two new sharks, large and zombified, which can (almost) swallow a whole minifig. overall I'm very impressed by its looks, but the "biting" function is lackluster. a very cool display model!

P.S. The sails are awesome, the cannons are fake, all of them
