Collectable Minifigures Series 17

Posted by ,

The Brick Show has published an image of the Series 17 Collectable Minifigures which are on display at the New York Toy Fair. The series features plenty of new elements and some brilliant minifigures including a pastry chef, a vet, a weightlifter and a boy wearing a rocket costume.

You can view a larger image after the break...

The minifigure shown in silhouette is believed to be a highwayman.

Which minifigures appeal to you the most? Let us know in the comments.

By in Sweden,

The female cook looks great. I love the rabbit, too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder what the deal with the ? figure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yes! Another surfer! Weird, it looks just like me, his board and wetsuit are even the same colour!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love it! Hopefully I don't get used to them too quick by looking at them too much :P

Roll on, April!

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO went VERY heavy on the City figures and rehashes. More surfers? Really? An Elf princes, only one sci-fi guy? Very boring theme. But the baker is amazing! That whisk better come in Friends sets in 2018.

By in United States,

These look like fun! Really want that pastry chef, and the ear of corn guy appeals, oddly. But what the heck is up with semi-clad dude with a pitchfork? What is he supposed to be?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The rocket suit, the corn guy, and the new dog piece look interesting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The corn on the cob guy sure seems like a Borat reference.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd argue that the "semi-clad dude with a pitchfork" is a Gladiator?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Rocket Boy where are you gonna land? In a land of LEGO awesomeness that's where! Love love love this fig. Also love butterfly girl, wings and hairpiece especially and is that Pearl (the dog)? Nice easter egg if it is. Green Giant Corn man looks fun, not so sure about the moustache.

Looking forward to seeing all the figs individually in more detail.

By in United States,

Oh wow! These are fantastic! Such a great new series. Lego outdid themselves here.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Some of these seem like lazy rehashes, Weightlifter was way back in Series Two, but this one looks more like a Circus Strongman, and another Surfing Dude, only this time in a Wet Suit? Hasn't LEGO City sets already given folks plenty of those? Ok the JAWS reference on his board is pretty neat, I wonder if they're hinting at Series 3 Dimensions with that? (Probably not)

The Gladiator dude with the trident is a bit of a waste, we've had so many Historical figures of the Past already, why not try for something a tad more interesting? Same goes for red-haired dwarf, ok sure the red-hair is nice, but honestly Dwarves aren't that interesting after so many years, why not make him a her, we haven't gotten a single Female Dwarf yet.

Love most of the more unique characters here, not sure if the Frenchman with the Baguette is very PC friendly, seems more like a stereotype, and aside from his new dog piece why is he even here? As for the blacked out mystery figure, someone said Matador, I hadn't even though of that, could be better then my idea of a Billboard Wearing Advert Guy, I mean the little hat makes more sense for a Matador than that. I just hope it isn't blacked out because we're getting another Mr. Gold type mystery figure with a lower production and harder to find character.

I can see this series was heavily inspired by the 80's though, considering the huge cellphone piece with Miami Vice dude and the wacky hair style of Jazzercise Lady. I'm looking forward to starting this Series, will it by out by May?

By in Puerto Rico,

These look great but not for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

And still no golfer...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool surfer dude! And a Highwayman? I've got to get him!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hopefully the gladiator is a Retiarius and will come with a net to complement his trident. Love the retro Flash-Gordonesque sci-fi character & the space rocket suit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks awesome! Standouts are the Rocket boy and the guy in the back with the pink shirt and white jacket. Wonder what the mystery fig is, and why is it such a big deal??

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is the guy with the phone 80's cop? I hope so!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love this series. I'm not interested in fantasy figs so much, so those are a pass, but everything else is a buy for me. I'll definitely get multiples of the diner dude, baker, strongman (they come in pairs), and possibly the 80's guy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is the guy with the phone 80's cop? I hope so!

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Once again, another great series - for parts, at least. The surfer is actually one of my favorites: he looks so handsome! The chef is a very satisfying figure on the whole. I appreciate that they actually created a direct stereotypical Frenchman with no hesitation; we need more of these kinds of figures! My favorite, however, is the 80's fitness instructor! Just looking at that huge hair, colorful clothes and the headband... Oh boy.

Also, this series is probably one of the best series for new accessories: a whisk, rectangular tray, rabbit, bulldog, retro space blaster... And the 80's hair. Gotta love the big hair. It also goes nicely with the mullet from Series 15! :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

The silhouette looks like a tricorn from the front and it looks like a small area of depth near where the neck would be, which could be a face handkerchief, so a highwayman fits the bill. I'd expect a matador's hat to be larger for some reason.

Either way, this series looks great. I'm trying to buy less since I don't care about complete sets (yet I get a complete set every series anyway), so I will have to figure out my top favorites and only get them. LEGO takes too much money as it is.

Definitely the strongman looks fun. The baker and hot dog vendor I could see getting multiples of. The Corn guy is a must have since I'm from Nebraska. The space ship suit is neat and my daughter will love the butterfly girl.

I'm definitely into historical figures, but these fall flat for me. Another dwarf isn't sitting right and another gladiator. Meh... New prints, but no new weapons or shields. I guess mjolnir in a different color, so that's good at least. The female elf is welcome, although it seems too little too late considering all of the middle earth elves we received.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Horses for courses. First series in a while I'm actually excited about again. Always interested in new historical/fantasy parts and accessories so the dwarf and gladiator are great for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A gladiator, of course! Somehow my brain got stuck on farm hand of some sort, and I couldn't make the leap to ancient Rome at all. Thanks, Roosta.

Gravatar
By in France,

could be a very cheap serie, nothing looks like must have, though that rocket is pretty fun

Gravatar
By in United States,

For someone that hasn't been pining after the older sets of these, this is fantastic! I'm looking forward to grabbing all of them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very cute series! Will have to get multiples of the corn. Hair on the veterinarian looks great. Is the blonde girl supposed to be a hippy?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Corn suit is quite cool for us Nebraskans!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fantastic series! Way more imaginative and interesting than the previous one in my opinion.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

i want the 80's cocain dealer. just kidding, i know he's just a business man or an agent or something. but he's from the 80's and wearing all white clothes and sunglasses. someone had to make that comparison

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Don't think anyone else mentioned the sci-fi figure. He has a real vintage seventies flash Gordon feel about him. Very cool

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love the new dog! Will be getting multiple Frenchmen lol. And the rabbit mold is great, I thought they would have gone with one of the Friends lil bunnies so nice to see they went for a new design. Surprised they haven't done a new maybe female magician, the Friends version would be ideal as a bunny-from-a-hat trick.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Some of them look quite nice to me. But since the new CMF series will be 3.99 Euro each, I am definitely not getting any of them. A 33 percent price increase is ridiculous. I am not going to support that. Extremely bad value for money. 2.99 Euro was stretching it already imho, but the new pricing is going to put many people off of CMFs for good.
What on earth should justify 4 Euro for one lousy figure? For just one Euro more you get whole sets, plus the new Classic creativity boxes. Absolutely laughable.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They all look pretty good to me, stand out being corn guy that will easily become Kernel Corn when my son gets his hands on him. Rocket kid, Chef, Strongman and 80's Phone Guy are also great.

I hope Lego grows a pair/gets greedy enough to release WWII minifigs soon. I know their stance on war but c'mon, we have Star Wars, cops and robbers, knights, pre-20th century soldiers, post-21st century soldiers...heck we've even had WWII soliders in Toy Story form. Making toys based on modern warfare won't hurt the brand image but it'd probably outsell most other themes. Also related, how come Lego has never done an historical theme?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Corn on the cob guy and Rocket boy look superb, although the surfers board is pretty epic.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't understand why they're keeping one minifigure a mystery here....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Odeinoichus I've just been reading the comments on Hoth Bricks (French Lego site) and nobody seems at all offended by the 'Parisien'. It's just a silly cliché like Englishmen wearing bowler hats or Canadians all looking like lumberjacks:)

Some cool figs anyway, who is the guy in the white jacket? 90s yuppie man?

Greendude - I agree that Legos stance on conflict is a little contradictory at times but I would definitely not want to see war themed sets. Just take a look at megabloks or copy brands that do this kind of stuff - it's just awful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Flash Gordon guy looks awesome.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

When I first looked at the photo, my immediate thought was that I was looking at an assembly of past figures. Then I saw the rocket boy and the corn guy, and I was like, "... oh." Not too thrilled, but I'll probably end up getting them.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They all look great. I particularly love the Flash Gordon guard. And I trust that's a vet and not someone testing cosmetics on the bunny..!

Gravatar
By in Japan,

@Odeinoichus and @joemmo I'm French and I can confirm, I don't think anyone in France will be offended by this minifigure. Most of us will find it hilarious.
When I saw it, it became my favorite of the set... well, until I saw the retro-future guy that is.

I'll even say that the French guy minifigure was way overdue, after all, there already was some Mexicans, Americans, Englishmen, Canadians, Japanese and a few more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Rocket and corn suit guys? Want!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Several great figures I'll have to get my hands on.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

There are reports over on Eurobricks that the black guy with the ? is not a limited or rare figure and that it is in fact a Highwayman.

Complete list of official names from Eurobricks: (or at least what are claimed to be official names and what makes sense to be official names based on past CMF series)
Corn Cob Guy
Rocket Boy
Butterfly Girl
Hot Dog Vendor
Elf Maiden
Roman Gladiator
Battle Dwarf
Circus Strongman
Highwayman
Veterinarian
Dance Instructor
Surfer Boy
Retro Space Hero
Yuppie
Gourmet Chef
Connoisseur

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the vendor and the baker the most, especially the repainted Squishee piece. As of the others, I love them all. Why is there not a purple colo(u)red series yet though? Couldn't they do that instead of using pre-used colors? Love the series though, best one so far.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe the mystery fig will be a Blue Meanie to go along with the Yellow Submarine set? (wishful thinking, I know)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Interesting to note that TLG has shied away from referring to the obvious Frenchman as an actual Frenchman, instead naming him, Connoisseur.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder if the mystery figure will remain a mystery all the way up until release. I'd be okay with Lego never officially revealing the figure, therefore making the hunt for this particular figure a mystery while bag feeling.

It would add a little more fun to the hunt.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Half of these are brilliant and must haves, the other half I don't care about at all. Must haves: connoisseur, chef, surfer, undercover 80's cop, 80's dance instructor, vet, strongman and hot dog vendor. These are probably the best accessories I've ever seen in a CMF series!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Bloody hell! Another surfer what with Fun at the Beach set coming out? Oy!

And I don't mind a Retiarius gladiator (trident and net user) but he should have a helmet.

But Frenchman and his French bull dog are awesome. Will make a nice mod for a Venetian Gondolier.

Pleased with the female patisserier and a sausage in a new color besides a red hot. And Corn Guy and Rocket Boy are fun icing on the cake.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@jonwil: Which one do you think is the Highwayman? The mystery fig? I don't see a Highwayman in the 15 pictured.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Great looking series.

I usually only pick up 5 to 8 per series, mostly CMFs I can use in my town, but in this one, probably the only figures I'll be (trying) to pass on are:

Dwarf
She-Elf
Gladiator
Highwayman - depending of course.

I have no idea what I'll do with Rocketboy, 30s Flash Gordon, the Vet and the Strongman, but they are cool enough that I'll have to get 'em.

I'd normally pass on the surfer too, but the board, probably, will be worth the buy.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Just on the lighter side, when I noticed this series reveal, my 4 y/o daughter was at that moment running around the house in a pink sparkly outfit, wearing butterfly wings, and holding flowers!

So it was a but uncanny to see LEGO release basically my daughter in CMF form!

Of course my even younger son asked if there was a figure of him, so I improvised by telling him he's Rocket Boy. I'll probably just put a box on him as his rocketship and call it parenting.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

French guy looks to come with new bulldog mould

Gravatar
By in United States,

Still no marching band members for a LEGO parade down main street.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm hoping these will be easier to get ahold of than some of the previous few series, which seemed like they sold out in no time.

PS. @TheAuk, yes I would call that very good parenting :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would get a couple of the French Guy's and Veterinarian's just for the animals.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

The little rocket guy :-)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

In my opinion, these CMF keep getting better and better! I'll be picking all of them up. Again. With all of the minidoll sets coming out - this is going to be a hard year for my wallet. *sigh*

Gravatar
By in United States,

This series looks great. I'm curious about the "mystery figure". For me, I like the space kid and vet the best. All the new animals are good and I'm also liking the corn man and hot dog chef. The exercise girl would look good in a city and the female chef has a very cool accessory. Like I always do, I'll buy one or two of these just to have but I probably won't try to collect much of this series.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not a big fan of the collectable minifigure series, but my favorite is probably the man in a corn costume.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Must gets for me are: Corn Cob Guy, Rocket Boy, Butterfly Girl, Hot Dog Vendor, Veterinarian, Surfer Boy, Retro Space Hero, Yuppie, Gourmet, Chef Connoisseur.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Another surfer and another gladiator type... Seen it all before, but i want them all.
