Huw and Chris are currently at the LEGO Fan Media Days in Billund, where the Old Fishing Store has just been revealed. Now, we have all of the juicy inside details from the Ideas blog, including official set photos and description. Read on!

"Woahhh! We’ve reeled in a big one! It’s big, green, brown and oh so fishy...ahem, we mean BEAUTIFUL! We’re thrilled to finally unveil the first offishial images of the charming LEGO Ideas 21310 Old Fishing Store designed by LEGO Ideas member Robert Bontenbal (RobenAnne) from the Netherlands."

"The Old Fishing Store officially opens its doors for business on the 1st of September, 2017 for a recommended retail price of USD 149.99 / EURO 149.99 / GBP 139.99. Weighing in at 2,049 LEGO bricks, this store will have plenty of space to stock all the fishing gear you need."

Here is the official description:

Find all the gear you need for a fantastic fishing trip at the Old Fishing Store! Walk up the steps from the beach into the shop selling fishing rods, hooks, harpoons, diving equipment, oxygen tanks and much more. Climb the ladder to the top of the watchtower and look through the telescope to enjoy the view. Then relax and read the newspaper in the office. Just make sure the cat or seagulls don’t eat the freshly caught fish hanging outside!

The Old Fishing Store is ideal for display and role-play, this model has 2 removable roofs, an opening back wall in the shop for easy access, 4 minifigures, cat and 3 seagull figures, as well as loads of other cool details and elements to fire up the imagination.

Inspired by a personal passion

Inspiration for LEGO Ideas projects often come from a very personal place, and Robert's inspiration to build his Old Fishing Store certainly is no different from this observation. It's that passion for something familiar that truly shines throughout his set and can be noticed in all the details. Robert elaborates on where this inspiration came from - "Fishing has always been my hobby. From fishing in the Caribbean, where I lived for a while, to fishing in Holland. So you could say that my interest in fishing and my job as an architectural draughtsman came together in this model".

He adds that "inspiration is very important, so was finding a theme that could help develop the model. I got my initial inspiration from the LEGO Christmas houses and sea villages. I started by doing some sketching on paper, then created a mood board to determine the details and color schemes. Especially the use of the right colors was important in my design".

When Robert's Old Fishing Store was approved for production in the fall of 2016, LEGO designer Adam Grabowski took over the project "to make sure that the model lived up to LEGO quality". It is often a challenging job to respect someone else's design whilst altering it to fit LEGO guidelines, but Adam says he "tried to stay very true to the original design. That’s what got 10,000 votes and is what the people want. I didn’t want to change much of the original look and there was no reason to do so".

Adam puts on the hat of an AFOL and adds, “it was great to be able to bring back certain elements like the seagull, and use others like the lobster, that were only previously available in other sets”.

What do you think? It already dwarfs the imminently-launching Saturn V as the biggest Ideas set ever produced - at least in terms of piece count! Whatever your opinion may be, please do leave it in the comments below.

By in Puerto Rico,

I love it (but this set and the Saturn V have their fans for respective reasons) but at this price I have to check what the bank says.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not too bothered by the changes. It feels a bit more refined in some ways which takes a bit away from the quaintness of it, but I'm buying it as soon as bricktober rolls around.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Squeeee!!! That looks awesome!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is a cool set for sure, but it doesn't fit with anything I have right now, and I'd much rather buy the Saturn V (I plan to) or the Grand Carousel (maybe). But it's neat.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow. A must have for sure. Looks beautiful

Gravatar
By in United States,

Day 1 purchase

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hubba hubba hubba!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Whoa... every time I find a great Ideas set (Saturn V) it turns out another great set is about to be released. Kudos to the designer(s), this looks amazing. Soooo many cool pieces in this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dang. It doesn't look that different from the original, either. Love what they did with the box.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm so glad LEGO turned around and started finally approving and building these larger sets for the Ideas line.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Is it me or should that baseplate have been blue?
Good to see 3 seagulls included. That should drop the price of those guys on Bricklink a bit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good price per piece and great model. I'll be looking to get one of these.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow! It looks amazing! Little disappointing they didn't re-design the life jacket to rid it of the neck gap

Gravatar
By in United States,

@rock99rock, I think LEGO Ideas wanted to start off simple first and gain experience over time before tackling larger ideas.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^ Considering that Ideas sets aren't allowed to have new molds made specifically for them, I'm not too surprised.

Gravatar
By in United States,

HINGES! Yes! Much bigger fan of stand-alone hinged buildings! Looks great!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this set will look really good with the laketown sets from the Hobbit movie!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Yesss! Plank stickers or prints! I always need those for MOC.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Omg. Instant buy... thanks lego for making this happen!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't remember if I have ever bought a set on "day one" but this one will definitely be purchased immediately. I love it. I loved the original idea more but this is still pretty great. And I love that ideas is finally moving away from the horrible fan boy sets into something original.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love that it has the hinged wall AND removable roof!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

On the subject of of Ideas, when shoud the next review be?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is a technically excellent model, no doubt about it, but it just doesn't do anything for me. I wonder if I'd like it better in person - hopefully they'll have it on display at the Lego store.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the cat and gulls but not much else appeals to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I NEED IT!!!

Gravatar
By in France,

wallet. pain. willpower. none.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What a fabulous looking set, I was already looking forward to getting Saturn rocket and this then comes along. Going to be an expensive year but it will look great alongside all of my Modular Buildings.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

In my mind its either this or the last Jedi sets and those take priority for me so this will not be added to my collection any time soon. Nice set though

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I saw this I was reminded of the Haunted House set. I then compared the two and the piece count is nearly the same. However, putting the two side by side the Haunted House set looks a lot bigger. Are a lot of the pieces in this used up in the tiles on the walls?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks amazing! Love the color scheme. Will have to get it for sure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What was already looking like an expensive Lego summer is getting more expensive by the day and set release. Lego really is on fire with wonderful Ideas sets and great sets in general! I'm hoping this will be the first in a series of RobenAnne's seaside buildings. As for the price I think it is well within reason, as the piece count and price are just about on par with a Modular Building, and since it's an Ideas set will be of high quality (and no stickers!). Love that box design too :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm passing on the Saturn rocket, but the kids and I thrilled about this one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks amazing and a great value. I'm gonna get it day 1 as well.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Looks great, a must-buy at day one!

Gravatar
By in Norway,

it's great that the ideas sets are growing in size!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow! - This is beautiful. ...After a long hiatus, this will be my first big Lego purchase.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it, but...wow...a bit pricey. For the same price I could add another Saturn V and a smaller set too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is really nice looking, but I'm betting too niche, especially for the price.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Really like the look of the set but will wait for the building reviews before shelling out £140 for it. Hopefully these expensive ideas sets will have a longer shelf life than normal to give people on a limited budget a chance to purchase these before they go EOL.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks fabulous. Would love to see this an the original submission side by side for comparison. Previous ideas have done nothing for me but this is tempting!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Set and box look excellent. VERY happy to see that they stayed true to the original, with the only modifications being beneficial to the smaller details. I can genuinely say that this is the most excited I've been about a new set since returning from my own DA.

My only complaint, and I'll assume that it's easily fixed with some post-build MOCing is that I think the front ~1/3 of the baseplate should have some blue bricks/tiles to create a look of being on water.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Has it been confirmed that there are no stickers in the set? That would be fantastic (and little surprising).

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Beautiful set, the perfect box design, obligatory purchase for AFOLs
I love the black fisherman's boots and the girl's greens, very realistic!
I like to include lobster, cat, anchor, several boxes and transparent lanterns.
I hope there are as few stickers as possible,
It is very well that sand colored base with more stones than in the original design.
The weathervane of the tower with that rooster improves to the original design,
I just miss the arpon of the original design, I hope this is inside the house!

As something negative I think the chains and the tires do not look good, the tires would have to have been bigger.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm still amazed that this set was greenlit by LEGO, but I'm also absolutely delighted - looks fantastic, loads of cool building techniques, interesting colours, and I suspect it'll be a wonderful build. Can't wait!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

There is a small sticker sheet but most, like the planks, are printed

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

This was the best set news in a very very long time! Had almost thought TLC had lost it... oh, wait! It's an idea-project.

Gravatar
By in Czech Republic,

it's got my dad's name on a plate! :D.. this is a must buy!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fantastic on so many levels. Looking forward to getting this one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

"... that were only previously available in other sets”

erm... that applies to every piece :)

Gravatar
By in Argentina,

Cool! This fits in with the Modular Buildings a lot better than the Kwik-E-Mart and the Ghostbusters Firehouse. I think it'll do a good job of filling in the space between a city's beach area and its residential area.

Gravatar
By in United States,

"offishial"?

Gravatar
By in United States,

By far my favorite Ideas set to date! Just awesome. They really stayed quite true to the original. I'm so glad this got produced, and hope it will be a smashing success so that they produce more AFOL-oriented, large detailed sets in the future.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Brick_Knight Prints, not stickers! Everything in LEGO Ideas sets are printed.

Looks really good! It is expensive for me though, so I will have to wait until I get a $100+ check from YouTube :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love fishing and really like this set, but I'm not seeing $150USD from it. Maybe if I can think of a way to incorporate it into the modular city buildings?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

My guess is that the sticker sheet will be for parts like the 2 doors that TLG doesn't currently have the capability to print onto (same reason for the 2 stickers in the Big Bang Theory set)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is a great model and I can't wait to see it in stores! I joined Lego Ideas after it was approved so I never got a chance to support it but I really wish I could have! The details are incredible and it definitely deserves to be put on shelves.

If you like nautical themed sets though, I would sincerly appreciate it if you checked out my Lighthouse project on Lego Ideas. It is at 241 supporters at the time of me writing this. You can check it out here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a1e85e6-23ce-4331-bbb1-34649a259563

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ That's awesome, thanks for sharing!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

My jaw actually dropped and I said wow about 3 times out loud when I saw the images. Simply gorgeous! It feels very unique I certainly applaud Lego for getting more committed to the ever expanding ideas line and having a eagerness within the design team to passionately bring this creation to life.

I simply cannot wait to get my hands on this, this is instant display model for sure! Do we know a price point for Canada yet? I'm guessing$199.99??

Gravatar
By in United States,

This building looks beautiful! Does anyone know if it has Technic pinholes in the back along the bottom for joining to other modulars? I suppose what I'm asking is whether this is being treated as a new corner modular building, like the Cafe Corner or Palace Cinema.

Gravatar
By in United States,

bandit778 / kipper147: Considering that previous ideas sets are on sale, it shouldn't be an issue if they do enough for a while for it to drop 20% by X-mas. An example is the 720R which is $62 for amazon in the US as of this moment. Adventure Time also applies (a 2017 set), being 32% off (33.93).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seagulls!!! Mine. Mine mine MINE!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

wow another first day ideas set. thanks LEGO. i am unemployed and yet i am going to go broke buying GREAT sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks fantastic!
Also, olive green masonry bricks!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love it. It looks like something you would see in Seattle along the pier or Pike Place market, San Francisco, and/or Maine.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

FINALLY! FINALLY! I've been itching for this set since I voted on the Ideas website and was wondering what the delay was. Now it's here it looks as cool as the original. Shame about the slight colour change but I can live with that, and to my untrained eye they look like stickers on the planks which would be a shame, but will be only a minor detail in the whole setup. Price will probably be close to AU$300 I think judging by the piece count which is steep but the quality of the set demands it. Always been more interested in fishing than in space so Saturn V is going to take a backseat to this beauty.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I love the atmosphere and moodiness of this set. It has a very similar vibe to the Scooby Doo Haunted Lighthouse set, which is one of my all-time faves. Sometimes I like Lego because it's fun or clever or it's a product from a movie I like or whatever, and sometimes it's more transcendent and there's an emotional component, owing to the colour choices or details, that feels deeply satisfying.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, that's good. Great price to part ratio and it's definitely compatible with the modular buildings. I love it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Parts count wise this set is a steal. Not sure what the complaints about price are about. This is an extremely detailed model! I look forward to seeing it around and watching the reviews. I have no room for large base plate sets but I love that they are making such a detailed set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Absolutely brilliant set!

The price is actually really good. Sorry, but there's no reason a 2000+ piece set should be something like $80. $150 is great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is the first set in a long time that might get me to part with some money....now if i can just get someone in my house to agree to build it, i'm pretty sure i'd buy it. I think it is really a cool set with a look and feel we don't often see from lego.

Gravatar
By in United States,

According to some photos, there are a fair amount of stickers. Not a deal breaker for me though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this one is fantastic. Between this and the Saturn V, I will be dropping some money on Ideas sets this year. I definitely like these two choices they went with and look forward to the future Ideas releases.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Its missing a Large Great White Shark hanging up outside... but other then that I love it. How to incorporate it into my modulars is the next question. Perhaps next to the haunted mansion ( to much green?)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks absolutely awesome! I too grew up in a fishing community on the coast of Alaska and this is executed very well. However the price point is a bit high. I see it as more f a $100-120 set at best. I MAY save up for this but for right now it's too pricy.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I love it. Not perfect, but still close enough to the original design to be highly desirable. Plus a reasonable price, which during double VIP point season will be even more attractive. Definitely on my wishlist.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This looks SOOOOOOO good. I would definitely get this if I wasn't such a Lego Star Wars fan.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks wonderful and I want it, but I'm still saving for assembly square and saturn V as a stretch goal, so with this as third priority I'll never get my hands on it

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I absolutely love it. I hope the rest of the series will be picked as official products as well. Go Dutch!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set looks so great! I'm really happy to see the final product looks good and finished. There is a great amount of detail in this one! Good job to both the original and Lego designers of this one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

WOOT A 32 X 32 BASE PLATE

Gravatar
By in Italy,

It's absolutely stunning!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That sound you can hear is me laughing at that price tag. PASS!!!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

O MY GOODNESS I want it!!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Grimlock: What did you expect, 2000+ pieces for £70?

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

@Grimlock this is not lepin... 150 is a good price for a good set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's catch of the day definitely...
Lovely nautical theme set but bit pricey I can see it being about £90 come January,
Love the seagull and lobster.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

guys the price to part is only $0.07 stop complaining

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ahh, that looks really great.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't really have much reason to display it, and so it would become a parts pack. A fantastic parts pack, but also a $150 parts pack, which I'm not sure I can justify.
I'll keep my eyes out for a discount, and I definitely want to see this IRL, but with everything else coming out this year (something something Ragnarok) I just don't know if I'll be able.
Dang it, Lego! Slow down so I can keep up!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sweeeeeeet! US $150 is dirt cheap for 2000 pcs, but apparently 150 pounds isn't cheap. Either way, for any US buyers this is a steal!

Gravatar
By in Japan,

This isn't cheap but I didn't expect it to be. It looks really good, very close to the original version. I might gonna get this. What I don't like, though, is the box front art, it is very underwhelming and doesn't really put the model in the best light. I get the idea, but it's not presented well. I'm afraid this doesn't help selling it well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To simplify things, LEGO, should just garnish my wages! ; )

Seriously, these are what Ideas sets are supposed to be.

Now, for a UCS Castle set that takes up four 32 x 32 baseplates!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I hope this is going to be the start of releasing freestanding buildings. Amazing building. Definitely buying!

But who is Anton?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, I have never had much interest in Lego Ideas sets until 2017. First the NASA Apollo set, now this!?! Keep it up Lego!

Gravatar
By in Greece,

Oh, I'm in love... So sad to have also read about the price and have to pass... Although admittedly it was approximately what I've expected. You can't build such a gorgeous moc/set without some dough

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anton is the official Lego designer's son, according to the Brother's Brick interview.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm actually pleased with the price. With that piece count I was sure this set would cost over $200.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This will definitely be a late birthday present to myself.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love it, and I love that it being an Ideas set that retailers will be able to discount it as well, if they get it of course. 150 USD for it is nice, but it would be nicer at 120-130 USD on sale somewhere

Gravatar
By in Germany,

To all those complaining about the price: there is a difference between "cheap" and "good value".

A sub 10 Dollar/Pound/Euro/whatever set is cheap, yet doesn't have to be good value.
A 200+ Dollar/Pound/Euro/whatever set is expensive, yet can be great value.

A set with a price-per-part of around 0.05 Dollar/Pound/Euro/whatever can certainly be good value as a parts pack, but even then, if it's mostly small pieces in standard colours, the value diminishes. Otoh, even a price-per-part of over 0.10 Dollar/Pound/Euro/whatever can certainly be good value, depending on the parts/minfigs included.

All in all I would say that imho this set is not cheap, yet definitely good value.
For less than 0.07 Dollar/Pound/Euro/whatever per part you get a lot of terrific parts and a great design, all in an attractive package as well, as Ideas sets always are.

@Mods: has there been any official confirmation that there are stickers in this set?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Lots of great parts, but the built set doesn't do much for me.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Too much money for one building. should be 100 but since it has the ideas logo on the box it adds 50$ same with saturn 5

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I think it looks beautiful! And it is reasonably priced as well:) Sand green tiles!?:D

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Bradkfan2: Too much money for one building?? Have you ever seen the Modulars? And "since it has the ideas logo on the box it adds 50$ same with saturn 5" $100 would be dirt cheap, and there's NO reason LEGO should be expected to sell this set at that price, because there gets to be a point where LEGO wouldn't be making back any money.

Saturn V is perhaps one of the best valued LEGO sets of all time. $120 for 1969 pieces is AMAZING value. Not to mention it's one of the largest (in size) sets that LEGO has ever made, so I don't see how one could complain about that price. And LEGO Ideas sets around consistently 10.0c a piece, which is great value.

You can't expect every LEGO set to be under $30.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This will be the first set I buy that is over $100 and over 1000 pieces. I never could bring myself to pay that much for a single set until now. I will put it in a beach scene with 31051 Lighthouse Point, 31035 Beach Hut, and 7346 Seaside House. Add in 60153 Fun at the Beach for more fun in the sun! What other ocean/beach sets could go with this?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Perhaps you could also add 60163, and 31063? :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Urgh... man, LEGO needs to stop making cool stuff. :P It's basically down to the wire between this and the Saturn V, and we'll probably be hearing about the latest Winter Village set in a month or two, which adds in another variable. Even worse, I'm not sure if I'll have the room for any of them.

EDIT: And yeah, for what you get, $150 seems totally reasonable. LEGO's not necessarily cheap, but it is extremely high quality, and you get the benefit of, basically, being able to reuse it infinitely. It's not as if a LEGO set ever breaks, at least not in the traditional sense, after all.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Anyone know the dimensions, specifically the height? hoping the weathervane doesn't take it above my height restricted display spot!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

It would have been amazing if the baseplate was dual mould/colour like Paradisa. So a sand and blue baseplate ??

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Why are so many people butthurt about the price tag? its a 150 euro for over 2000 pieces. Kinda like an ideas modular building. Its a good value, especially with all the sand green tiles and olive green masonry bricks. Calm down guys, It looks like a great set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm happy for the guy that posted the project, but it's way above my price point. (I rarely buy sets over $25) It's a beautiful model!
