Advance warning of site disruption
Posted by Huw,
Update: this work will be postponed for a day or two as there's a minor issue with the new server that needs to be resolved first.
Tomorrow morning, Monday 2nd October, I will be moving the database to a new server. The process should take about 1-and-a-half hours and is likely to commence at 10am UTC+1.
While it's being done any changes made to the data on the site -- comments, collection changes, reviews etc. -- will be lost.
I will post a prominent message here when work commences and I apologise in advance for any inconvenience.
If you have any questions, please ask in the comments.

Nothing here now is going to be lost: only stuff entered during the transition.
Final comment on this server!
Eh ? If you can't do a live (master->slave->promote) migration, why not just shut of the write parts of the site, or replace it with a "maintenance message"? This seems like less pain than "don't enter stuff, it might get lost" ...
Yep, do like Apple: Sorry, we will be back shortly ??
I may well do that but advertising revenue would be lost while it's down. Only a small proportion of visitors are logged in and capable of making changes, but doing so would inconvenience everyone.
What's UTC+1?
UTC+1 is the time in the UK right now, otherwise known as BST (British Summer Time).
@Huw - now you've made me want to enter a comment in that time in order to see if it's lost.
Thank you for warning and maintenance.
Sorry I'm confused
^^^ go for it!
@richselby Cheers, in all my 42 years I've never heard of BST being referred to it as that. Everyday's a school day.
