New Toys R Us Trading cards found
Posted by Huw,
A new series of LEGO trading cards has been found in a UK Toys R Us store by Phil T.
They come in a foil pack and cost 50p for 4. They are not given away with purchases like the Sainsbury's ones so are unlikely to be as popular. It's not known how many are in the set, the highest numbered one in Phil's pack is 48.
It's interesting that the artwork is somewhat inconsistent: two of them are photos and two are drawings, of which the Friends one looks nothing like LEGO.
More pictures after the break.
They are slightly larger than the Sainsbury's ones:

Given the numbers, colours & the +2, I suspect you can play some sort of Uno game with them.
The Friends art is much like that seen in the magazine (although not the same as the comic strip art)
These trading cards are free with purchase at toys’r’us Spain:

All I care about is when/if the Bricktober minifig packs are coming to the UK. Anyone hear anything about these?
@Brainslugged I can't talk for UK, but in Spain toys'r'us told me they are gonna sell them in November, maybe this happens in UK too.
Elves cards also uses the BOX arts

In the German newsletter it says, you get a free pack with every 10€ spent in Lego.
Another load of useless tat for kids to collect and parents to fuss over.
Toys r us usually have a habbit of getting promotions in to sell a few weeks before a promotion starts to give them away as a freebie when you spend the right amount. id reckon it will be around when Brick Live in Birmingham is on as they usually have a pop up store there and lots of offers are on around then
These remind me of those "LEGO Stars" cards from a few years back.
I don't see the point in complaining about the inconsistent art, since they're just going with whichever art style is used most prominently in each theme. I'm honestly just grateful that they even bothered to include themes like Friends and Elves, considering how many products that incorporate multiple themes (like LEGO Dimensions) leave girl-targeted themes in the lurch.
Somebody on another site also shared that there's apparently some sort of collector's guide that goes with this as well, which I wouldn't mind having just for the cool art. As for the cards themselves, I doubt they'd hold my attention for long, since the actual game component is highly rudimentary and aside from the art they don't have much in the way of flavor text to hold my attention as collectibles.
@Brainslugged asked in my local TRU last night about the figures. the person i spoke to had no idea what i was talking about; mentioned they had some build event planned later in the year; and the obviously i was talking about that build event!
the store had no other information about it and was surprised when i showed them pictures, pouncing on the fact it was an "american site"!
guess we just have to wait and see...
I don't give a hoot about LEGO trading cards, but does anyone know when the Bricktober minifigures will be avail. here in the US? I've checked the ToysRUs website and see the Bricktober promotions, which are the usual weekly builds and some pretty lame freebies, but no mention at all of the exclusive minifigures... Maybe LEGO is awaiting their 32 million before they ship them out lol.
I received a good number of packs few days ago, after purchasing a bicycle, and a few toys from TRU in Austria (but not Lego). Not knowing that this is a new promotion until now! What I can say is that the print quality is very high. Of course as a Lego fan I'm happy to receive them.
I got a couple of packs at my local TRU while trying to get the final bricktober minifig set here in Germany. I opened one and they seem alright, I will probably just give them to the nephews when I see them at Christmas.
There are 5 "suits" of 10 cards each (friends, elves, city, ninjago movie, nexo) for a total of 50 cards. There is also a "booklet" to place them all. They play like Uno cards (without a +4)
They are being given in Portugal and Spain for qualifying purchases until tomorrow.
