Many fans rejoiced when The LEGO Group acquired the rights to produce sets for the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World, in 2015. Now, after a few months of rumors, it has been officially confirmed that we will also be receiving sets for the sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, in spring 2018!

“The Jurassic World franchise has always had huge cross-generational family appeal, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom promises to be one of the biggest movie and merchandising events of 2018,” said Vince Klaseus, president of Universal Brand Development.

“Following the success of 2015, we’ve been hard at work to build out the largest Jurassic World program to-date to meet the increasing demands from fans, as well as reach new audiences around the world – demonstrating the global appeal of this 365 mega-franchise.”

Master global toy partner Mattel and LEGO Systems will lead the retail roll-out with toys across a variety of play patterns and age segments, additional toy, role play and costume licensees supporting the second film include Funko, Build-A-Bear, Rubies, Wowee and more.

What do you think? You can let us know in the comments below. Head on over to Licensing.biz for more details. Thanks to The Brick Fan for the news.

By in Canada,

Really looking forward to being able to pick some up this time around. Wonder what kind of dinos will be in the Duplo and Juniors versions. The Juniors ones will probably have desirable ones to get adults to buy them too.

Great news, I've always regretted not getting the first Jurassic world sets, can't justify the high prices on eBay for them.
Looking forward to getting the Dinosaurs for my boy from these, I'll have the figures :-)

By in United Kingdom,

Isn't the whole jurassic world lego line going to be in juniors and duplo, that's what I've read in the leaked catalogues

By in United Kingdom,

Yay ,time for some more mediocre sets that are unrelated to the movie!

But I always need more dinosaurs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I will buy them all and regret nothing

By in Australia,

I worry about the crossover in age groups between action movies and tie-in toys. I say this as a grown man who plays with Lego (and shares it with my kids) but is it right to give kids toys from a movie series where people get chased and chomped? And what about Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the superhero series, etc?

By in United States,

They were overpriced the first time and probably won't tempt me a second time. Plus the movie was garbage, and I didn't want to buy into the marketing. Would have been great to have had a new unlicensed dinosaur-centric theme. I could get on board with that! Love my old Lego dinosaurs!

Bring 'em on - you can never have too many dinosaur sets.

By in United States,

I think the leaked catalog page showed 6 sets, 3 juniors and 3 duplo sets. wow!

By in United Kingdom,

Interesting that there would be Duplo sets - considering it's highly likely the film will be rated a 12A. Something doesn't quite add up there. But I hope the main sets are a little more interesting than the Jurassic World Range. Bar the actual dinosaurs and the Indominus set, I'd say that range was all samey vehicles. There were some better designed ones, but samey all the same - the T-Rex trapper was particularly odd.

Looking forward to seeing these sets and more about the movie!

DUPLO sets? And Juniors? But the film is gonna be PG-13!

By in Netherlands,

The original JW theme was the only theme I ever bought all sets of, because I just love JP that much (and I usually don't even buy franchise-based Lego). Can't not see myself getting at least all the regular sets of this either...

By in United States,

I dont know for sure but if I had to guess, everything is finalized for this wave of sets by now!

By in Ireland,

I really hope they release a set or two based on scenes or vehicles from the original film

By in United States,

Love the dino sets -- bring it on!!

Juniors means no stickers! We'll see... I bought one set from the last wave, I think. I'd be more excited it they weren't Cauc' flesh.

The Jurassic World ones were a tad expensive, but honestly the dino figures in each set made them 100% worth it. If we get more big dinos in these, they may be a day 1 purchase, and almost certainly a double points buy at the very least, as long as the sets aren't terrible... those big dinos make up for a lot imo!

And for all the comments about people getting chomped in the movies... I know my 4 year old nephew absolutely loved to play with the JW sets (with close supervision, of course) and his favorite thing to do with them was chomp up minifigs with the two Rex dinos. None of us let him watch the movies, but he apparently figured it out anyway >.<

Let's just hope the movie isn't a steaming pile like the last one.

By in Australia,

Never heard of the idea that dinosaurs are too violent for kids! I suppose everything's a controversy these days.

By in United States,

Mattel?!!! What happened to Hasbro?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wasn't the first JP PG13 too? Haven't all of them been PG13? This is te third time we are getting sets for a movie, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

For Duplo there are only two sets, they will just have a dinosaur and slap the name on it.

The price of the last ones didn't bug me too much, but the sets were just bad rehashes of previous dino sets. I hope that isn't the case next time.

By in United States,

Based on the catalog there will be 5 regular sets, 3 juniors sets and 2 duplo sets. I will be buying the ones that have dinosaurs different from the last wave(hopefully a stegosaurus).

By in Canada,

Yes I can’t wait!! Missed out on the 2015 Jurassic world sets but can’t wait for the new one. Sadly these sets might be more expensive than the 2015 ones

By in Mexico,

That's some great news! So nice LEGO is taking action on DUPLO and Juniors themes, specially since Jurassic World was ripped off by knockoffs which took mould dinos to the next level, incluiding babies, miniature, glow -in-the-dark and new moulds, incluiding DUPLO system. I'm really excited to see what LEGO will amaze us once again and hope it has learned its lesson from knockoffs brands.

By in United States,

I hope we get some new dinos this time around. I didn't get any of the original Jurassic World sets (thanks BIONICLE G2 and Dimensions for taking my money!) but I was happy about all the new raptor colors and the Dilophosaurous. Hope we get some exciting creatures, maybe a new Spino! (LEGO's JP/JW sets are cannon breaking anyway)

Gravatar
By in United States,

REALLY hope we gets sets from the original film(s) at some point.

By in Germany,

Like polyester333 I would have preferred an own unlicensed theme and not Jurassic World. Though I liked the first 90s movies and I'm really a fan of Chris Pratt, the last movie wasn't too great. Also, the Lego sets were overpriced and very odd (T-Rex trapper?). I feel like the non licensed brands provide much more value lately: Ninjago, Agents, Elves etc. There should be more of those if you ask me.
Duplo and Juniors sets are just odd with this license, it feels like a move for the US market, not particularly a Danish / European market decision, same as Hasbros Star Wars / Marvel preschool toys.

By in Australia,

@Baby Yoda. It's not controversial. It's just parents have to tell little kids they can't see the movie because it would terrify them. Even though there are toys from the movie.
@Fizyx. Your parenting style is like mine. "No you can't watch the movie. Yes your plastic dinosaurs can chomp the plastic people. Can I play too? Raarr! Aieee!"

By in New Zealand,

Hopefully they will release sets based off the first three as well as sets for the new film.

By in United Kingdom,

Part of the fun of Lego is you can keep it completely separate to the adult versions of films they are associated with.
Most kids love dinosaurs but you don't have to let them sit and watch people get eaten by them as well. There's always the Lego film version.
My son is technically too young for lego, he's only 2 but he loves his batman movie figures. He watches the Lego batman film but obviously I wouldn't dream of letting him watch Christian Bale beat the smeg out of Bane. I've lost track of why I wrote this now, I tend to ramble.
Oh yeah, not controversial!! ;-)

By in Germany,

As long as they don't do sets of the original JP, which was the only watchable film of the franchise imho, I am not interested.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got almost the entire line of Jurassic World sets for $50 from a woman whose grandson had no interest in playing with them after everything was built. I figured she paid $250 for what I got from her. I probably wouldn’t have spend the money to purchase any of those sets brand new, so it was a lucky grab for me. These new sets will probably be too expensive to entice me to buy more.

By in United Kingdom,

I don't quite understand all the hate for Jurassic World, and essentially any Jurassic Park other than the first one. Jurassic Park III wasn't great in general I'll admit, and there were plot holes in II and JW, but I don't think they were detrimental to the Jurassic Park universe as a whole. Besides, everyone that's seen the films at least once will have the T-Rex cargo ship scene and 'the bird cage' etched in their memories for a long time.

Having said these things though, I have high expectations for 'innovation' in general for Fallen Kingdom, and even The Last Jedi in the other studio camp. Both films follow previous saga entries that essentially traded off a reworking of the original film of the franchise for nostalgia purposes but they should be able to go to new places now!

I think it would be a safe assumption that the new Lego wave would contain a T Rex but beyond that who knows? A proper stegosaurus and even a resurrection of the contemporary triceratops mould would be good. Maybe a pachycephalodon would be too off the wall?
