Avengers: Infinity War trailer brickdown

This isn't the sort of article we'd normally publish at Brickset but Ben S offered to write it so it would be rude not to publish...

After a long wait, the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer is here. It features many new battles and scenes that may become LEGO sets and gives us glimpses at the biggest team-up yet. View the trailer and read my analysis after the break.

This article may contain spoilers for Thor:Ragnarok

Marvel has kept Infinity War details under wraps for the most part (cough*Tom Holland*cough) until Monday when a Vanity Fair photoshoot was released and then marketing came out very quickly. The trailer starts with a shot of an unnamed planet (Nidavellir?) and then to Bruce Banner surrounded by wreckage after hulking out presumably.

The trailer then gives us glimpses of a human Vision and a blonde Black Widow. This is followed by the first confirmation of Spider-Sense in the MCU and a giant portal-like structure in New York City.

We then see Loki handing Thanos the Tesseract or Space Stone which was stolen at the end of Thor: Ragnarok.

We get a brief glimpse at Proxima Midnight and nomad Cap in Edinburgh.

We see more shots of Bruce Banner and a new Hulkbuster suit. This is followed by shots of Black Panther and Nomad fighting Thanos’ minions. Next, we see Vision having the Mind Stone stolen by a figure who is theorized to be Corvus Glaive. Thanos is showed placing the Space Stone into his Infinity Gauntlet.

We get our first glimpse of Bucky Barnes and then the final battle in Wakanda begins with an amazing group shot.

The title rolls and we see Thor with his eyepatch from Ragnarok meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time.

While the trailer is sure to excite fans of Marvel, it doesn't offer a lot of details and potential for LEGO sets. If you check the database, we have six sets listed with provisional names but these don’t match what we’ve seen so far, although they do sound realistic.

So, what I've done is created descriptions for three sets based on scenes in the trailer that may well become sets, or perhaps part of larger ones.

Black Order Ambush - $39.99, €49.99, £44.99 – Vision, Scarlet Witch, Nomad, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight

  • Fight off the Black Order in Edinburgh!
  • Defend the Mind Stone with Scarlet Witch’s power blasts.
  • Send Nomad flying off the exploding bed.
  • Includes apartment and five minifigures

Battle for New York - £69.99, $79.99, €89.99 – Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Hulk, Wong, Iron Spider, Thanos

  • Defend New York City from Thanos’ invasion!
  • Open a portal to alternate dimensions.
  • Twist the knob to spin the track.
  • Includes Thanos’ portal and six minfigures

Invasion of Wakanda - £99.99, $119.99, €129.99 – Bucky Barnes, Black Widow, Black Panther, Falcon, War Machine, Hulkbuster, Aliens (x3)

  • Protect the Wakandian people and rally the defenses!
  • Build the wall of Wakanda to stop the alien invaders.
  • Use the Hulkbuster to smash the buildable aliens
  • Includes the wall of Wakanda, seven minfigures, Hulkbuster armor and three buildable aliens

Please let us know what you think of the trailer, my set descriptions, and this article in the comments.

As a guy who grew up reading Marvel comics, I’m just in awe at these films.....never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I’d be seeing a movie based off of The Infinity Gauntlet storyline. Little MiniFigFiend would be verrrry jealous of Old MiniFigFiend, that’s for sure :)

By in United Kingdom,

^I think they confirmed that the name of the second movie (out summer 2019) has been changed and is being kept a secret to prevent spoilers. So this one is indeed just 'infinity war'.

The trailer has got me so hyped, but I think guessing sets from just the trailer is an impossible task seeing as lego sets (and even trailers) often bear little similarity to the final film! (Iron Man 3...) due to re-writes, spoilers or just making a sellable product.

Definitely getting all the sets!

By in United States,

^^ We should be clear that the ones listed here are just ideas for sets based on the trailer. The six names in the database are all official (barring any little changes by the time the sets are released) and there are descriptions for all of them out there.

Anyway - great analysis, FANTASTIC trailer!

I'm no marvel fan but this looks GREAT!

Yes, the sets described are ideas, not speculation. There are six set descriptions out there, and they detail that an infinity stone is included in each set.

By in Serbia,

I'm slightly confused as to why you would invent completely speculative sets (which are confusing people, if the above comments are an indication) instead of trying to match known sets to trailer scenes?

Yeah, careful trawling of Reddit will reveal descriptions for all six sets, some of them sounding VERY interesting. This article seems somewhat pointless on that basis.

By in Poland,

I hope there will be a set with a minifigure of teenage Groot, and I'm geting the set with Scarlet Wich.

Despite the original comic book stories the 'Infinity Gauntlet' is now reminiscent of a Red Dwarf gadget.

Once again: An ongoing CMF Super Hero line please Lego. No, not made in the cheap factory please!

By in Austria,

I'm really looking forward to the Lego sets for this one, hoping for some new figure parts. The trailer also makes me want to go back and finally watch all the other Marvel movies. I loved CACW and GOTG, so I hope there are some more good ones.

@Ephseb
There is a plethora of “good ones!” I hope you get a chance to watch them all before Infinity War!

Black Panther got a hitch in his giddy-up in that group charge sequence.

"Invasion of Wakanda - £99.99, $119.99, €129.99 – Bucky Barnes, Black Widow, Black Panther, Falcon, War Machine, Hulkbuster, Aliens (x3)

Evacuate the city!
Prepare every defence!
And somebody get that man a shield!"

Fixed it for you =D
