Announcing a new app for LEGO fans: BriXtar

BriXtar is a new app that launched in the App Store and Google Play a month or so ago, and already thousands of LEGO fans are using it to share and view MOC pictures and instructions.

Here's some information from the press release:

"The app is free of charge and offers a new way to share and view MOC instructions in 3D directly on your smartphone and tablet. Digital MOC builders can save countless hours on making instructions by uploading the ldr file to BriXtar which will then create 3D instructions automatically. And for those who want to build someone else's model, the 3D instructions viewer offers a new enhanced experience allowing you to rotate the model to see how the bricks attach from any angle throughout the building process."

Furthermore, you can import your Brickset set collection directly into the app and then see what you can build from the parts you already own. This is just one of the features we have planned as we work together in the future to closely integrate the two platforms.

More information about BriXtar and links for downloading the app can be found on the website.

I've not used much of its functionality yet but I have tested the Brickset integration and that works very well. So, view some screenshots after the break, download it and give it a go, then let us know what you think in the comments.

People, i've been using this app since the start (official release), and I can tell you that it is definitely worth a try.
Brixtar's an excellent app for people who want to get into the world of lego creations, whether for builders who wants to share with the rest of the world or beginners who want to try to make something new with what they have.
They also organise small competitions every few months just like on rebrick, the general environnement is kid and family friendly.
The app itself is still in development with some functions lacking, but be assured that brixtar treat the user's feedback very seriously, and makes improvements as fast as they can.
They care and believe in what they do and deserve every lego fan here on brickset to give them a go.

By in Germany,

Sounds tempting, although I will try this on a tablet instead of on my phone.
I just don't find too small a screen very comfortable to use. But on a tablet, I can definitely see the benefits of such an app.

The 3D build mode doesn’t work for me, and I can’t download the instructions for anything. Everything else works well, though. Great idea.

By in Sweden,

I quickly ordered the brix box that I've been eyeing for awhile. If the app made it here, might be more of a rush for them. :)

By in United States,

I'm trying it, and like it. One thing is that it seems that you can't just open an LDF file you have saved on your tablet - you have to (I think) upload it to Brixtar (I've been doing so on the website) and then you can open it in the app. Most of the LDF files I have are not my creations - I got them from Rebrickable. So I'm not sure if I should be uploading other people's stuff to BriXtar. I did upload one, though. And the instructions look great - like many instructions, but with the added bonus of being able to rotate the model. I did find one impossible step so far (it had me put in a piece that is under another one - in real life would have to take the first piece off first) but much much better than some of the crazy things LDD does in its instructions.

By in Sweden,

We are so glad to see that there are so many people that seems to enjoy the BriXtar app. Thanks a lot!! :-)

@InvisibleTimmy - I think you may need to update your OS. The 3D instruction is quite complex and doesn't work work on older OS.

@CathyVT - I saw your uploaded posts. Awesome! However, it may be a good idea to tell the original designer that you've posted it on BriXtar in order to get the instructions straight. Just to make sure he wont be angry. :-) For your information. There are algoritms making rules for how the instruction is constructed (in which order the brix should be put together). However, it still doesn't work 100% correct. In Stud.io you can make steps in the instruction in order to make it work perfect. :-)

By in Sweden,

Hi everyone. I’ve been one of the afols (drdoddo/Andreas Lenander) that have been involved with testing the BriXtar app from very early on, and I can tell you it’s been a blast! Before the guys over on BriXtar contacted me, I had never even been able to turn a brick in LDD (I kid you not...haha!), let alone heard about studio. The thing that made me take that step, was to be able to share some of my MOCs with other people which sounded like a fun idea. The app has developed steadily over the past year and they keep adding things and making it better and better. The 3D instructions are actually pretty damn cool, and something that I think adds something else to the building experience. Even though I hardly ever build sets anymore, I still think it’s interesting to check out some of the other afols builds, to see how they have gone about creating certain things. It’s also pretty cool when you see someone else post a pic of your Chibi AT-AT or mini endor, built using the instructions you uploaded! All in all, I’ve had a lot of fun during this time and I really believe the app is something that is only going to grow and improve as more people get involved and start posting stuff. So go check it out :)

So, I just downloaded the app, but I may have misunderstood features present. Is there not a creation mode to digitally build a model within the app?
If not and anyone knows where such a thing exists, I would be deeply grateful to know.

@JerdaFoks No, the "instructions" feature allows you to view the ldd file in 3d step by step on a mobile device (something unprecedented), but doesnt not allow you to build directly in the app

No ability to browse without creating an account? I get that you’d need one to upload, but I’m sick of creating and managing accounts for every little thing (and I don’t use Facebook).

Huh. Looks nice. Not a digital builder myself, but I might check it out.

@JerdaBricks mecabricks.com is a good way to make 3d lego models, no installation required, just the browser

By in New Zealand,

Does submitting a file to BriXtar make it available to everyone? Or can a file be submitted simply to produce digital instructions for private use?

By in United Kingdom,

Regrettably I don’t seem to be able to import my Brickset inventory, keeps saying ‘oops something went wrong’ etc. Otherwise looks great.

By in Sweden,

@FlagsNZ - Unfortunately not at the moment. But if that is something that is important to you I will be glad to put it on the list of future development.

@JRL - I am sorry to hear that. Would you mind please e-mail us: Support @brixtar.com so we can figure out why you are having trouble.

By in Sweden,

@JRL - I think I have located what caused your issue. I potential fix is already out, so please try again and see if it works :)

By in France,

@FlagsNZ Yes, I think that you are allowed to do so as many have done before. Lego doesn't own your MOC (the exact one you made) when you put it on ideas.
