i had seen this at the LEGO store...it was the only one of the new summer star wars sets they had. Wow it seems strange to see the 'Star Wars Classic' section on LEGO actually having a lot of new sets!

Well, besides being very overpriced, this is a great set. TRU just raised their price to $110 as well, right before I could get to it at $100... Ah, well. I'm glad the Pirate Tank is $40 instead of the original $45.

Um, huw, I'm having a bit of trouble. I'm trying to update my minifig collection with the new minifigs from the mon calamari cruiser, but it won't add them even though the set appears in my collection.

I noticed all three exclusives are in stores or up online. Maybe I will order one online for a chance at the cool brickset fig.

I know the MCC is a TRU exclusive and the Tank is for Target, but is the Midi Falcon an exclusive?

starwarsgeek101 is right, it is only 99 in TRU! I purchased the Battle of Endor (also 99) at the same time and I was sure that I would like Endor more. But LEGO really really outdid themselves with this one and I think its a tie.

this may be off-topic(sorry) but the midi-scaled falcon is a wal-mart exclusive and the H1MCSC(7754) is now re-priced a TRU for 109.99 and some bonus news is the Hard-to-Find Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser is eaisly found at Target.

Some of the new Bionicle Legends have appeared at my local LEGO Store(Washington Square), but nothing on the PoP sets. I think that the Troll Castle was also there.

In the UK the mon calamari star cruiser is £88.09 at the Lego shop and at my local TRU it was £99.99!

well i live in britain and its £100 but im going to california in 4 days and the exchange rate is £1= $1.5 so its all cheaper woooh

Here in Germany the Mon Calamari set costs €139,99 at TRU (exclusive) and the Tantive IV is announced on LEGO.com for €149. To better show the price difference: The new City Camper costs €16,99. So both SW sets are kinda pricey here.

I wonder if the Mon Calamari set is coming here,I also hope the Battle of Endor set is coming here to because it's going to be my Christmas Present. @ Routmaster Lego is pricey here also,the ATT here is $64.99 CAD and it is small! The new Yoda is not that great.Now if i can only get my hands on a Chrome Darth Vader.

It's a very nice set; I picked up one from my local LEGO Brand Store (Milton Keynes, UK) earlier this week. The figs are great - the Mon Calamari, General Calrissian, General Madine & Mon Mothma figs are almost worth the price of the set on their own ! (no not really, but they are very good figs). The A-Wing is also very good, with some interesting building techniques, especially the engine area; the best A-Wing LEGO have done so far. I'd recommend it.

I want this set now...the A-wing is the sole Rebel fighter I don't have possession of since the maroon version went off LEGO too fast...and my 6212 X-wing was like a dream come true that it was actually there. Plus I'm sick of all this Clone Wars stuff. I mean in the US now there's more CW sets than the page can fit!

£88 with Lego and £99.99 on Toys R Us?!?

This is the first SW Classic set where I'm going to have to say no. I will gladly stump up the cash asked for the Death Star though.

@ primetime - agreed, way overpriced as is the endor set. I know its a licencing thing and they have to pay a small fortune to Lucas but its getting to the point where there is a 50-75% premium on most Star Wars sets and that means I won't be buying.

@ Primetime - I also agree that it's overpriced. It is a 789 piece set and in us dollars it should be priced, at most, $90; but, like the venator, it is $20 overpriced.

My wife actually bought me the Endor set from Argos last week.

When she originally offered, I said no thanks. She had some money off and had won some cash on a lottery card so she surprised me with it, bless her (I've given her the collecting bug too). It's a good set but I just couldn't part with £75 ($129) for it. She made the decision for me!

Take the 6211 Star Destroyer with 8 minifigures (at £69.99) and compare it, in scale and price, to the Venator Class with 5 minifigures at £99.99. I know the 6211 isn't in production anymore but it hasn't been that long.

Something stinks. Is it really George Lucas or is Lego realising that no matter how much they up the prices we all still pay?

Primetime, if you could simply say those last two sentences to all those who complain about overpriced sets, it would save everyone a lot of explaining. :) Couldn't have said it better myself; someone paid attention in their economics class.

The Home One is overpriced. The Venator is overpriced. The Battle of Endor... well, in the US, it's not too bad.

I have two of the 6211 Star Destroyer and am trying to sell one because I know collectors will want it more than the Venator. Although put together, the Venator isn't too shabby for a Clone Wars set, 6211 is still far better. Save your money for the 10198 RBR if you want slightly more value.

I missed out on the 6211 and really want one. I am now in the process of getting rid of all my Clone Wars stuff as, although fun to build, just can't take seriously. Although the series is very impressive.

As for the DK Star Wars Visual Dictionary, the figure is just a bonus as I've had this on pre-order since March/April with Amazon.

Well, if you think about it this way, the venator has a peice count of 1167 which estimates to 1200. I have calculated that on average each individual piece, in the US, is about 10 cents. So to calculate if a price is accurate for a set, in US dollars, I simply multiply the estimate peice count by .1 and you have your answer. In the case of the venator, 1200 X .1 =$120 which is the price for set. In the case of the Home one, the accurate price would be $80, but LEGO, for some reason doesn't like to use that retail number so they'd just up it to $90. So as you can see the home one is VERY overprived. Now take the 6211, the peice count was an estimate 1400 peices and it was retailed for $100. In this case LEGO was being very generous. What I think happened is that since LEGO hadn't come out with a non-UCS set as large as 1400 peices until the 6211, they weren't sure if it would sell according to an appropriate price for peice retail price. So they settled for $100 a pop. But now, with lego star wars stretching its final lines, there must be a bigger demand for profit so they probably used the gunship selling at $120 as an experiment, and I guess it must have sold so well that LEGO decided to do it again.

@Leggodt: You pretty much summed it up, even though it's kind of unnecessary. The main reason everything's so overpriced is because lego only has star wars for what, 1 or 2 more years? They gotta squeeze what they can out of the star wars lemon.

This set is a bit overpriced. Just think of it this way, though. Has lego given us many large playset-type sets like battle of endor or home one before, with a bunch of minifigs and features before, in this price range? There's the Death Star, but compared to these, that's like a $300 difference.

What would be really cool is if you could get both this and the endor set, throw in luke, and you've got a larger playset thing. Gotta buy both though.

What they really need to do is make a set that is designed off of an event, like a battle, but instead of it being just one large model, have several decent sized individual models that can come together for easy storage but are desined to be separate plus a good list of minifigs. Whatever it be, LEGO needs to come out with more creative ways to do sets whether it be playset, large scale model, or diorama and making them a bit more inexpensive.

Is the Star Wars licence due to end soon really? How do you know this?

I have a feeling that Lego will come out with a similar set to the Endor set from Empire. My guess is a new Cloud City set.

Licensing typically runs for a fixed period of time, though it's fairly typical that licenses can be extended (again for a fixed period) if both parties agree. LEGO originally obtained a license from Lucas in 1999; I understand that it was originally for 4 years, but was extended to 8 years, and it expired in 2007. In 2007 it was announced that LEGO & Lucas had agreed another 4 year license, which would expire in 2011. I think its safe to say that both sides are happy with how things are going, and I *fully* expect that the current license will be expected, or a new one agreed.

AFAIK 'Star Wars' is still LEGOs most successful 'System' theme. I don't see it going away anytime soon ...

As long as Lucasfilm continues to chuck out more media descriptions of the expanded universe, like the clone wars show, it might as well stick around for another good period of time. I think that in addition to the new force unleashed game LEGO should do a set based off of it.

Yeah there's plenty more for lego to do if they up the contract. The new A-wing in this set is simply awesome.
If I had the money I would consider this set.

If I had the money, I'd get this set because I didn't get an A-wing and the characters look great, but I think that Mon Mothma looks too much like Leia.

@ Obi-wan Legobi: Yeah, Mon Mothma's head is Leia's head with Mutt Williams' hair. At least Ackbar and Madine have new heads, though.

Yeah, obi-wan legobi, plus you get a decent lando calrissian since cloud city, because the one that came with sail barge didn't come with hair and it wasn't his formal attire.

I think im gonna pass on this for my b-day since it is noted that the Clone Wars AT-TE has more pieces than this and is $20 cheaper! talk about high price...even though i dislike the Clone Wars sets thats just too much. Besides, the AT-TE is perhaps one model that can get away with pulling off an Episode II version, just with creepy Anakin and Ahsoka figs.

I think its good to see lego take a break from clone wars. Although this set is obscenely over priced, it is cooler and more origanal than the Venator. Oh and on a side note, check your local target for the return of the REPUBLIC FIGHTER TANK. I found 4 at my local target yesterday.

@captain radda radda: Yeah, there were like 6 to 12 Republic Fighter Tanks at my local Target on an endcap. I also saw a bunch of the venator, separatist shuttle, cpa tank droid, and y-wing. I'm pretty sure battle of endor was there too.

Went in the same Target the other day to pick up the Endor set and the only one they had was ripped open and missing the minifigs... Walked out with the Venator instead, great set and a fun build.

I'm one of those that thinks a lot of the sets are overpriced and the prices keep rising, but I looked at some of my Castle sets from 20 years ago and looked up what I paid for them, 20 years of inflation and most Lego sets are still right around $10 per 100 pieces, a little higher but not much. Even with the relatively high price I'll be adding Home One to the collection soon.

I can't find any of the starwars sets now, I used to be able to find the Sepratist shuttle, but it's dissapeared now, along with Cemetary battle and fighter plane attack.

it would be nice if they made a decent original trilogy mid sized set...though these and Echo Base are nice looking, i just wish there was something that's not too big and not too small. Sorta like 6212 size. another question: how does this whole "silent rereleasing" of certain sets end up happening? we saw the same thing they're doing with the Fighter Tank right now as they did with 6212 and 7666 last year.

How does someone go in a store and tear open a box, take out the minifigures and leave? That is bordering on Houdini-style magic! Not that I don't believe you, I'm just amazed at the audacity of it.

@primetime... i've heard of it happening to other people before i think they probobaly (spelling) buy it get the figures out then return it saying thers a defect or something like that.

I saw set 7623 with a big hole in the box and opened bags at Target a few weeks ago. So I think it does happen every so often.
