Summer Technic set images, at last!
Posted by Huw,
Images of four Technic summer releases were revealed overnight, at last!
See prices, piece counts and pictures after the break.
42079 Forklift Truck, 592 pieces, $70
42080 Forest Harvester, 1003 pieces, $150
42081 Volvo Autonomous Loader, 1167 pieces, $140
42082 Rough Terrain Crane, 4057 pieces, $300
They all look excellent, don't they. I've had a quick glance at them to see if I can find any new elements, but haven't noticed any yet. So, let us know if you spot any.

Not holding back this wave, are they? My brother is going to love that forest harvester. Is that crane really 4000 pieces?! It doesn't look anywhere near it.
They all look sleek and realistic down to the color schemes. Surprised by the prices relative to the piece counts especially for the new piece count king at “only” $300. Eager to see more images and the functionality.
But still no sign of the Bugatti... ??
42082 looks really great tough!
Definitely the best Technic wave since a long time. :-)
That Volvo digger :)
Impressive line-up, Crain especially ...
Liking that!
What do we think for a release date? June? July?
I'm not sure but I think there might be a new pneumatic switch (with an axle hole on the side rather than a lever) in the 42080 (look under the 2x11 pneumatic cylinder)
Every time I vow to stop buying they just hook me straight back in. These sets just keep getting better and better.
Is the price of the Volvo Lego set really in pounds? Or is it 140$?
Is it just me or does that Volvo remind anyone else of a scorpion?
^ Me too.
They all look fine. Still, not as spectacular as 2016 second wave though. I already feel nostalgic about BWE, Claas and EW160E...
@Huw, I'm pretty sure the Brick Round 2 x 2 with spikes on 42080 is new. At least I don't recall seeing it on any other sets.

The pricing is interesting here
42081 - Volvo Licensing, more pieces than 42080, large wheels and bucket piece, cheaper than 42080 by $10
What factors would you think that makes 42080 cost more? pneumatics? new moulds?
@chrisf2905 Besides the pneumatics, which are always more expensive than "normal" elements, it has a motor.
Dying to see the B-models. Often, they are my favorites. Take the Mack truck for example. The B-Model is much more interesting and cool than the A-Model.
This wave is an easy pass for me. I’m curious to see the content and functions of 42082. The others look overpriced and odd looking. I am also curious to see the B-models
I like to think 42082 is the proper celebration of 40 years of technic, being a re-imagining of 855 :)
Oh yes, jay for interesting colour schemes!
It's too bad they don't make the Technic figures anymore. Especially for the Forest Harvester, what with the chainsaw and toolbox...
Finally, technic sets that interest me! I've wanted to get into the line for a while now, but none of the sets looked appealing to me. These, on the other hand...
Also, is that crane really only priced at 300$ at 4000 pieces? Sweet!
My two cents:
Love the forklift truck. Have already got two ancient Technic forklifts (8843 from 1984 and 8835 from 1989) and this one will make a nice addition to the collection. Love the colour scheme too. BWE anyone?
Don't like the forest harvester. Odd colour scheme, way overpriced, doesn't look like a 150 Dollar/Euro set at all to me. Nothing of any interest to me there.
As for that Volvo "thing". It's odd looking, but I've already got the Volvo wheel loader and this one will go nicely with it.
Still gobsmacked about the rough terrain crane in that I still can't see where the supposedly over 4,000 pieces are supposed to go. I like the set and will certainly get it, but it looks like no more than 2,500 pieces to me. Amazing. I think this might be the first set where I am actually going to count the pieces because I just can't believe the number. Even the "concrete" wall pieces can't make up more than 200 pieces including all the connecting pins.
^ I suspect over 1000 will be pins.
All these reveals lately and I'm still eagerly anticipating the reveal of Advanced Model 10262. Do we even know yet what it is going to be?
- The Forklift resembles the one from 8872, only bigger. Yet it doesn't have same scale as 8416.
- To me, the Forest Harvester is somewhat pointless as "roll" and "pitch" of the claw appear to be operated manually. It's quite colourful on the outside, but I'm a fan of green parts.
- Similar to 6x6 Truck 42070 the Loader seems to be designed to use the "tractor" = Claas wheels. I welcome a set that represents new/future/conceptual technical machines. But as a play set the five (cf. discussion of eurobricks) functions operated by turning knobs may be too tedious.
- The Crane will be a big big model that improves on 855: motorised functions, steered wheel and (probably) robust turntable. I'll probably stay with my modified 42009 - could it be because of the red colour?
It's nice to see models accompanied by extras such as palette & barral, tools (forest harvester) and construction panels (crane).
The Volvo should have been called "Scorpion" instead of "Autonomous Loader" in my view!
