Never heard of.

This is a choice that annoys me a lot more than something like Sheriff Deadpool. The DC figures for the last two years have been characters from Legends of Tomorrow, so I think it would've been nicer to get someone like White Canary or Steel over Black Lightning. That being said, this is an awesome figure and there wouldn't have been any other way to get one from Lego since they don't make Arrowverse sets for some reason.

One of my favorite characters from Young Justice. I’m not a huge fan of the TV show’s costume design so it’s kind of unfortunate they made him a SDCC exclusive. Hopefully we can get a wide release comic version next year. Anywho I’ll be keeping a close eye on eBay to try and snag one. Hopefully he’ll be like Vixen and not be too expensive

Is this supposed to be like Black Vulcan?

Oh come on.

A big NO for exclusive characters for SDCC.

@Your future president Black Vulcan is actually based off of Black Lightning. I forget the reason why but for some reason Hanna Barberra wasn’t able to use Black Lightning on the old Super Friends and Justice League shows so they created Black Vulcan, who is literally just a redesigned Black Lightning.

^Right @Double J Bricks. There was a dispute with Black Lightnings creator (Tony Isabella). He wanted royalty monies and Hanna Barbara just renamed the character for the TV show.

According to Tony Isabella, DC Comics didn’t want to pay him part of their cut from licensing characters for “Super Friends,” and Hanna Barbara didn’t want to pay extra for the right to use the character. So, they created the character Black Vulcan as a copy of the character… and DC let them do it. In response, Isabella wrote the last story of Black Lightning called “The Other Black Lightning” where a villain called Barbara Hanna used a Black Lightning imposter as part of her crime syndicate. Hilariously, DC published the story anyway, as Isabella said in an interview “I don’t think they realized what I was doing there.”

I want that so bad but it's probably going to be super pricey :/

I'm a fan of the show, but I'm reasonably certain I'll never own this one.

Looks great, though.

Who?

At least with SDCC's new exclusives procedure, you'd know if you can even get the figure before you went. I should know in a few days whether I made the cut or not. That will alleviate a bit of headache.

One of the things I love about Brickset is that I can always go to the comments section and learn something new.

How easy is it to get hold of the exclusives at the sdcc?

Where the Arrowverse figs at?

Dang, this figure looks very nice in my opinion. The suit looks so futuristic and it's so nice to see Lego diversifying their figures as it brings a bigger audience. I admit, while I'm tempted to snatch this one off the second market, I still think it's not worth the expense of my valuable cash. And yet, I still think the prices are totally fair even if I want this one so bad, but it's just not worth my money for one figure. Maybe later in life, I can get one of these figures, but who knows.

I hope his popularity is along the lines of last years Lego SDCC DC figure which only commands a $100 price tag.

Whew, not anyone really desirable!

@legoDad42 wow. I’m a huge DC fan and I didn’t even know the whole story like you do. Learn something new everyday.

Anyways I don’t care this is exclusive because I’m not a fan of the CW shows. If this was comic accurate Black Lightning I would have had a problem but like I said with the Sheriff Deadpool figure, if it’s a variant I don’t care. These CW character variants don’t bug me at all.

@legoDad42 and to think this is the same company that won the rights to Captain Marvel/Shazam on the basis of him being too similar to Superman.

@ewokswithbricks Me too my man. I like checking out the comment section for some tips and juicy nuggets myself.
@Double J Bricks There are so many comic book inside stories. Sadly alot are some creators getting the shaft on money or credit owed. Many guys now are not creating too many new heroes or villains at the big companies but rather doing their own creator owned books because of things like this.
@SearchlightRG Right, they said he was too similar and won. I think if I remember reading it right, around that time the Captain Marvel book (Whiz Comics) from Fawcett was selling better than Superman (and all others). Supposedly the top selling comic book during WWII and a couple years after too. Probably why they did it. To knock out the competition.

@BrickHelix and @mh3490 ya I agree we need more arrowverse figs like zoom,Savitar, flash and arrow etc

By in United Kingdom,

I've got all the comicon figures so far.

There's usually a lot on e-bay before and during comicon for quite high prices. Then there's a glut as heaps of people try to sell. This is when I usually buy, typically paying around £120 for a figure including import duty & postage. Once this glut has sold, prices can go up quite a bit so this is when I always buy.

Bricklink sellers tend to take a longer view and price higher, so e-bay is best.

Obviously silly money for a small plastic figure, but in the age of Will I Ams and managers confernce figures going for thousands of pounds it's not too painful...

Well, neither I nor my guest were picked to receive any of the exclusives we indicated interest in, so no Black Lightning for me. It's not sour grapes, but to be honest I may not even bother going to the Con now. I usually can do without the crowds, but the thought of maybe finally scoring an exclusive, and one of a character I like, was giving me motivation to make it this year. But alas....
