LEGO cards are back in Sainsbury's

Posted by ,

Following the success of last year's Create The World cards that first appeared in Sainsbury's in the UK, another set has just been launched, subtitled Incredible Inventions.

As before, you'll receive a pack of four for every £10 you spend and you'll also be able to buy additional packets at 50p for 4. There's also a collectors' album available priced at £2.50 which includes two packs of cards. Last time they sold out quickly so you might want to grab one as soon as.

Unlike last time, there does not appear to be a special LEGO set available this year.

Find out more on the Sainsbury's website and watch the TV advert after the break.

I didn't get 2 packs of cards free when I bought an album for £2.50. Apart from a possibly misleading photo on Sainsbury's website, I also don't see any specific mention of 2 free packs on Sainsburys website. Has anyone gotten 2 free packs when they bought an album?

No free packs for me.

My local Sainsburys 'forgot' to give them people last year when they spent the amount so they ended up with tons left over and basically just left them out for people to take.

Kids just weren't interested in them though despite loving lego, so don't see what the point of them was. Think its mostly AFOL collectors that went after them.

Without a set to go with it, what's the point?

Sainsbury shifted 100million of these last year, so yes, there's a market for them, I collected them myself but knew any friends with children who also collected.

@SeanTheCollector and @BrickCompanion. You are supposed to get two free packs when you buy an album. I did when I got mine. I work part-time at Sainsbury's. The tills instruct you to give two packets when an album is scanned. I've made sure everyone gets their free packs! If you didn't get them, take your receipt to customer services and I'm sure they'll sort you out. I would if you came to my store :)

No set this time around, but there was mention of an "exclusive" mini-figure, although I think this is only in supermarkets. The memo didn't say what it was, but I'm guessing it's the Banana Guy.

Got the two free packs with our album.

Ended up with loads of cards and a full book last year when my wife asked on Facebook etc. Should be the same again. Shame they aren't doing a special set but my son really likes the cards so not that much of a loss.

Does anyone understand the Incredible Inventions connection?

I've not seen the banana figure in my local. Is it just in some major stores rather than all over?

My hometown store in Kidderminster have only a handful of albums left today on the display stand and so I’m told cards as well have been shifting quickly all day. They are giving away 2 packs free with each book as advertised in store and they do have stock of the banana guy also.

Yep, just been into the local (Stamford Hill, London) and they do have the banana guy in a new display stand by the tills. Also plenty of albums.

Seen the Banana guy in both large & small stores.
For some unknown reason I got 2 packs with a £10 spend- probably just a forgetful till operator

I'd love to get these, but I suspect it'll be a bit prohibitive for US collectors?

For those that weren't given their 2 free packs with their album purchase, your Sainsburys receipt details how many packs you've been awarded. Mine detailed 6 and 14 separately as I bought 3 albums and spent £141 on groceries. Just go back to store with receipt and they'll give you the missing packs. 250 Nectar points awarded on buying an album for £2.50 too

...as for kids not being interested in them, my daughter dislikes LEGO but got a full album last time Sainsburys did this, as did my son who loves LEGO. Lots of trading/swaps going on at school - the school playgrounds were full of it

Just picked up an album this evening and was given 2 free packs of cards with mine. I would recommend anyone interested in buying an album should get one now. The display stand in my local Leicester store was completely empty. The only ones left were a few copies behind the service desk. These were incredibly popular last year and people were climbing over each other to get the albums with people paying over £20 each for them on ebay.

They were an instant hit in school playgrounds around the country last year. It's no coincidence that they've released these again just in time for the kids returning to school after their summer break.

Also there’s a 10p Shopping bag with the cards advertised all over so i bought one cause i think it will be the most sought after Sainsbury’s Plastic carryer ever :) Oh and the lady in front of me kindly gave me here 4 packs :) Oh plus my local store Worcester has the Collector Albums at the Checkout lanes so if the stand is empty try a till

By in Chile,

Some class act ordered 60 of the albums online from my Sainsbury's, obviously they think they're gonna sell them on at a later date for profit, so I hope there's enough for all genuine collectors to pick one up from in store.

In my local Sainsburys on Thursday I bought 1 annual (as they seemed to be very precious about them, behind tills only) and got 2 pack per £10! I should have donor a big shop! I went back later to do a bit more shopping and get a 2nd annual so all children satisfied, just need on for me now! I got 2 extra packs with each annual and when Sainsburys deliver our shopping the man was very generous with his stash :-)

The annuals are great, the children are loving looking through them and reading them and of course putting the cards in the right place!
