Many bricks-and-mortar toy stores are closing nowadays so it was good to hear from Brickset reader Tim Pearson this week who has just opened a shop called BrickCraft in Wayfarers Arcade, Southport, Merseyside, UK.

The store exclusively sells LEGO -- current and retired sets, polybags, minifigures, loose parts and so on -- and also compatible products like Stax lighting.

In addition the shop will be hosting weekly building events led by an experienced builder every Saturday, with this week's events being free.

If you're in the area do stop by and check it out. You can find out more on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and email, and view a few pictures of the shop after the break.

It's too bad that independent toy/hobby stores are rare to come by these days. I remember when I was in college I could go to my local toy/hobby shop and still pick up the odd Lego set that was 6-7 year old.

I'll be visiting Southport in a couple of weeks time for the annual fireworks competition. I'll be sure to pop in and have a look.

Good Luck Tim, this is a great idea and should be supported as much as possible by the local community.

Nice one.. Is there one in blackpool yet or Rhyl? we often take the kids to all 3 but can never find a lego store..

Ooh, nice! A bit out of my way to visit, unfortunately, but I really like both the concept and execution of this idea :D

When you say the store sells retired sets, is that just ones retired within the past couple of years, or do they have older models in stock? I know it's a bit much to hope for somewhere that sells the sets I remember from my childhood, but... well, I'd be interested to know, in any case.

Also, actually, I'm curious how the prices stack up. Does a shop like this have to charge more than it would cost to buy the sets online, to cover their operating expenses?

Great to the see the NW or England embracing another "Vintage Lego" shop. There's another in Settle - https://www.facebook.com/replaytoycavern/ and I think there's a shop in York as well, doing the same kind of Workshop/Shop kind of thing.

Good Luck!

For someone who lives 50 miles away from a non-LEGOLAND LEGO Store i hope something like this opens near Birmingham or in Worcestershire/Gloucestershire. Fingers Crossed

Thanks to every one for the show of support.

Practically everything new is RRP a little is put on top of RRP for exclusives, simply because i can’t get enough at a discount to offer them at RRP.

We have already been offered some very old sets, so if there’s a particular one your after let me know & i’ll keep a special look out for it.

If i get offered anything old that some one is after i’ll give them direct contact with the seller (if there happy to do so) that way you get it as cheap as possible.

Obviously we need to make money to exist however we opened a shop as fans for fans & making money is not in the fore front of ours minds.

Nice! I go to a store here that is similar, with a very large selection of loose bricks-both sorted in drawers & unsorted in tables- and a good selection of sets & minifigs.

Store looks great, best of luck!

Looks like a great setup - we need one of these anywhere in Bournemouth or Poole, or even Southampton (although I don't tend to visit so often). Being able to see some more unusual/retired/older sets to buy is always awesome and I only tend to see them in person a couple of times a year - online purchases from EBay etc. just don't have the same feeling to them.

Best of luck in your endeavor! I wish I could go and support you, but I don't live in England. I hope your store goes well. The images look great.
