What features would you like added?

Posted by ,

It's the time of year when we start to look at ways of enhancing Brickset by adding new functionality or improving the usability of existing features.

In previous years we've conducted a full user satisfaction survey to gather your ideas and feedback but we were so overwhelmed by the sheer number of responses that it was difficult to extract actionable ideas. So, this year, I'll ask just one question: What feature or functionality would you like added to Brickset?

If you have any suggestions you'll find a form to complete after the break. In a week's time I'll sift through the responses and report back.

Thank you in advance!

Alot of websites sacrifice speed for aesthetics. It just makes them harder and slower to navigate. The only thing I want is simple. NEVER do this to brickset.

A report button for article comments (there might be one on PC, but there isn't one for mobile). Lets be honest, some comment threads (recently to) have broken down into ugly arguments. It would be nice if a report button was available to alert Brickset staff quicker, allowing you guys to end commenting on the article quicker before the argument draws out.

I think what Brickset needs right now, much more than any *new* features, is more complete set inventories, especially for older sets, as well as some consolidation of alternate part IDs. The information's all there on bricklink, it'd be nice to see it here too.

To be able to add all my custom minifigs I’ve built in the LEGO store to my profile. I’ve purchased several packs of 3 minifigs. If that was built in the inventory as a set it could add 3 minifigs to a user’s count. I know it would be impossible to show the exact minifigs unless all minifig pieces were added which I know would take a lot. Having purchased so many of the custom packs my collection on here is just missing quite a bit of minifigs.

Please add the possibility of marking sets "Assembled/Not Assembled", like you have "I want this set/I own this set". As AFOL I don't have enough time to assemble all sets that I've bought.

@fitus, you can already do this with custom checkboxes. I’ve done this exact thing, because I suffer from the same problem! I think you can set up the custom boxes in your profile area.

Huw, I just want to say Thanks for all the efforts that you and your staff have done to make the WebSite Awesome. Keep up the great work.

^^ Part of the problem is that there's so much functionality already that some of it is hard to find.

https://brickset.com/profile/flagpreferences

It, and loads of other stuff, is documented in the FAQ: https://brickset.com/faq , which interestingly accounted for just 0.01% of all page views this last month :)

Looking through the form responses so far half of what's been requested can already be done...

I really like how Brickset works currently! I'd just echo one of the comments above, which is to not break the site by adding in tons of bells and whistles that cause everything to load super slow... I appreciate the clear design and fast functionality of the current setup.

It would be nice if the query function could search/filter by the assembled status options, so I could see which are assembled and which are bagged, etc. Also, since MSRP of older sets are irrelevant to sorting, it would be nice to sort/search by the BrickLink prices. Great site even without these, so it’s just a wishlist. Thanks!

I would like to see rankings for the number of different Minifigures. I want to see how my collection stacks up to people who don't have a 1000 Clone Troopers and battle droids.

First of all, thanks for your great work providing such a great service.

About features, I just sent something through the form.
In particular I'd like that search for multiple sets would be improved, a fast way to change the country in buy at (Amazon, Ebay, etc...) lists, a way to easily exclude some categories (such as Duplo or buildable figures) from search and buy lists.

I'd love to see a feature to make public ratings/comments on sets (similar to how it works on boardgamegeek.com) like when you just wants to post a quick opinion that doesn't justify a full review. While there currently is a "your notes" feature, it seems to be private-only.

When posting official announcements of new sets it would be nice with a little poll of what people thinks, with options like:

"I'll buy this"
"Maybe on sale"
"It's a nice set/theme but not for me"
"Meh"
"This set/theme is stupid and shouldn't exist".

On the "prices" page for individual sets it would be nice to have a quick option to set the currency for "equivalent price" without having to change (and remember to change back!) the country in your profile.

The page should also have a note on the bottom about which countries requiring additional taxes and fees, like how the US prices always seems low but many states requires additional sales taxes and if AS/NZ users needs to pay import taxes on D2C sets.

I thought and thought but couldn't come up with anything. Thanks for creating a great site, Huw!

Is there an easy way to mark/unmark all sets in a collection? For instance, I sold off one of the themes I used to colllect. I can find those easily, but I’m unmarking then as “own” one at a time.

By in Italy,

I would like to be able to mark sets as "Not interested" (in the same way as "have" / "wanted") so anywhere where I can use "My Collection" as a filter on a list (e.g. Amazon discount listings), I can remove sets individually (I know I can do that to themes, but it would be nice to be able to filter to a higher fidelity).

Tried to submit through the form, but it doesn't seem to be working (but then I am using a machine that very little of Google seems to like, so I suspect it's me, rather than you...)

Huw said "Looking through the form responses so far half of what's been requested can already be done..."

Maybe an occasional article on the main page would be useful to highlight some of these? I'm sure they were probably announced at the time they were introduced, but newer visitors may not be aware of them.

Thank you for all the incredible hard work that goes into this site. It is my go-to place for news, reviews, and keeping a grip on my collection. The features I use work really well and I enjoy using the site. Keep up the GREAT work.

Put all the random sets of the day into a bricklist, or tag them.

I get this, but look at it more general. Yes, there is custom checkboxes which could handle this, but here's the thing. I'm already using all 3 custom checkboxes for something specific. So if I wanted to mark "Assembled/Not Assembled", (which is a pretty cool idea), I have no way to currently do it. Other than getting really creative in the Notes and then use a query (which I've already done from some other things I've wanted to track.)

So would it make sense to add any more specific check boxes that might be really popular or would that slow down performance? Or would it be possible and make sense to add more than 3 custom checkboxes that people could then use however they'd like?

Not completely relevant with the function of this site and what it wants/has achieved, but I believe that a "build-a-minifig", in-site function, with updated minifig prints/parts, would attract more traffic to that site and it would be useful to some of us to say the least.

Wish I could customize the way the Parts section of a set is layed out, so I could create nice printable BoMs of sets. If I could set a page size, orientation and then the number of columns and rows or something, and options I could tick on and off (like used in number of sets, year released, color name) so I could decide howmany pages it would spread out on - and be able to preview this, that would be wonderful.
