What is your favourite minifigure of 2018?

Posted by ,

LEGO has produced almost 800 minifigures during 2018, covering an impressive range of different themes and subject matters.

Thankfully, your nominations have narrowed the field to twenty popular figures in readiness for our second Brickset Award today. Vote for your favourite minifigure of 2018 and find out which minifigures were selected by some members of the Brickset team after the break...

CapnRex101

Lando Calrissian (75222 Betrayal at Cloud City)

I generally find choosing a favourite minifigure to be particularly challenging and 2018 is no exception. Many of the Harry Potter minifigures are brilliant, including Hagrid from 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall along with Tina Goldstein and Professor Trelawney from the excellent Collectable Minifigures series. The brand new version of Biggs Darklighter is impressive too.

Despite significant competition, Lando Calrissian from 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City is my favourite minifigure of 2018. This popular character has only appeared in his Baron Administrator attire once before and this rendition looks absolutely magnificent, sporting an intricately decorated cape along with an attractive blue tunic. The charming smile on the reverse of his head completes a perfect minifigure!

Dragon Suit Guy (71021 Collectable Minifigures Series 18)

Minifigures are not really the focus of my LEGO collection but when I first saw Series 18 of the Collectable Minifigures, I knew I had to have them! There are so many delightful minifigures in this series - the girl in the cat costume, the cowboy, the rocket man, the clown.

However, my favourite of them all is the Dragon Suit Guy. The printing is fantastic and I love the detailed headpiece, in addition to the wings and tail. It would be terrific to have a costume just like this, even if it would be difficult to sit down in!

FlagsNZ

Batman (76112 App Controlled Batmobile)

Firstly, I should mention that I am not an avid minifigure collector. However, earlier in the year I reviewed 76112 App Controlled Batmobile and that set comes with a unique Batman minifigure.

My grandson is quickly becoming a LEGO fan and he particularly loves all the Super Heroes minifigures. He showed a great interest in the Batman minifigure found in this set so that is also my favourite.

Huw

The Wolf (21315 Pop-Up Book)

The wolf, attired in grandma’s shredded pyjamas and wearing her wire-framed glasses and lipstick, really brings the fun Little Red Riding Hood scene from 21315 Pop-Up Book to life!

By in United Kingdom,

I'm torn... This year's too good!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'm with Huw.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Professor Trelawney is my favourite. Great printing on the dress, a teacup and that hairpiece! Since it is not on the list I chose the bare chested crook. Great storytelling in a single fig

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Absolutely the crook.

Let's hear it for the bears!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I didn't realise the printing on that Batman was so intricate- very impressive.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Where is Snape??? Ok it's moody

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Other: Harumi from Ninjago. Looks like something out of Kill Bill, just a really cool looking minifigure. Criminally underrated too, apparently.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I chose Lando, but he is not the only minifig from beyrayal at cloud city that deserves a mention. The new Luke and Leia both look great, as do the new cloud car pilots.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Having only got the Pop Up book for christmas i’ve yet to take a full look at the figures but i will say they are bloody epic figures all 4 of them plus jacks nanofig

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Had Enfys Nest had a face and a hair piece underneath the helmet she would have garnered my vote but I gave it to Dragon Suit Guy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My nomination would be the Race Car Guy from CMF Series 18. Mostly for the Rocket Racer easter egg. But also because he would fit into the Speed Champions theme and also, the little car is cute.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely Old Luke, such a great figure and a perfect new hairpiece

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

So many great ones to choose from. I'm picking Bare Chested cCook, but he only júst beats Enfys Nest because of the previously mentioned lack of a face.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dragon suit guy!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Hm, if I have to choose one from my own little collection it would be Benny from Lego Movie 2... Or Robin from the Batman Minifig Series 2...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Kabuki Nya is such a great figure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Dress-up Cowboy from Anniversary set gets my vote, race car driver just pipped into 2nd place. Worst has been Anniversary Policeman,

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

Brick suit, no doubt. It` s original, jubilee, fun & widely available. Classic Police Officer is nice too, of course, but it` s rare (object of speculation and profit) & "neo-classical" (like "classic" astronauts in 70841 with differences from authentic minifigures).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Am I the only one confused by the inclusion of Thanos? Technically he is a big gig and the poll is what is your favorite minifigure.

I went for the brick suit guy. Such and ingenious idea and a fun piece to use.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Beach Party Dude (col338)!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

hol121: Baby, Dark Turquoise Body with Moose and Snowflakes and Yellow Hands
teal baby from the winter fire station.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had to do Han Solo because of the duel molded legs. Hopefully Lego makes more of those for sw and other themes in the new year. And happy new year.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Anything non licensed by default.

For 2019, spacesuit Rex Dangervest is already high up my favorites:

Printed arms, dual molded legs, printed helm, and cool 2-tone color scheme you don't often see.

If anything, he could be imagined driving one of Aaron's vehicles from Nexo Knights as he uses the Dark Blue / Bright Green colors too in his builds.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I loved the classic police officer but really he's not a new figure. Brick suit guy and girl were the ultimate double nod to the two anniversaries this year so they get my vote!

Gravatar
By in France,

So many good minifigs this year. But this wolf is among the best IMO, with Enfys Nest and... Lando's cape ^^

Gravatar
By in Italy,

The crook!! Love his underwear design.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's really hard!

I'm not sure whether the Classic Police Officer deserves its place on the list though, as its not really a representation of how Lego's design has developed over 2018, and rather is just a piece of nostalgia

Gravatar
By in Canada,

All of the minifigs from series 18 are on my favourites list, except the classic police officer, which didn't interest me at all. And Hagrid's pink umbrella was my favourite accessory by far. Or maybe the Quibbler with Luna Lovegood... And I also agree with @Hobbythom about Trelawney -- so good!

So many excellent options! Glad others could help narrow down the list.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great selections by the Brickset team. I forgot how detailed that Batman excellent minifigure from the app controlled Batmobile was. I can understand the inclusion of Thanos here; after all, he is a "fig" albeit a bigger one. The joke is the classic police officer. I already have it. It's the worst on the list that doesn't belong, not impressive, and it's old.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Bricksuit Guy... because that's the costume I'd wear if I ever got to Comicon. Yeah, I'm a nerd ;o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

How do you vote for the Wolf, it’s not in the choices?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Anything BUT Cactus Girl. Terrible design for a terrible idea.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted for Cactus Girl because I think she is too cute. Generally, I dislike the focus on minifigs that, to me, took root once the Star Wars line took off.

Don’t get me wrong, I always loved minifigs as a kid, I loved getting figs that were especially different from the normal offerings (especially female minifigs). But it always rankles me when I see such a strong focus on minifig “accuracy” or somesuch strange metric.

The recent Benny minifig pack, to me, illustrated how play is best facilitated by versatile bricks AND versatile minifigs. Once you get into the realm of “This Minifig is Han Solo and he can only be Han Solo” you lose a large portion of what makes Lego special.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Corn on the cob man was Quite good so was elephant suit girl and Owen Grady..

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Your future president - Bigfigs, mini-dolls and DUPLO figures were eligible for nomination in the previous article. However, including all those in the title would have been rather long-winded.

@natro220 - Brickset team members selected their favourites from every minifigure released during 2018 rather than the short list shown here. Some people did nominate The Wolf but it did not receive sufficient nominations to qualify for this poll.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ I dunno, Captn. What is your favorite minifigure, big-fig, mini-doll, or duplo figure seems like a pretty catchy article title to me. ;)

Notice how NO ONE (that I noticed) voted for a duplo figure or a mini doll.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Luna Lovegood for the medium legs.

Other sets have unique and interesting accessories, but the shorter bending legs is a true innovation.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gotta go with the crook! Underwear, scars AND chest hair!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is hard. It’s like choosing between Empire Strikes Back and Dark Knight.

Gravatar
By in United States,

None of the unique Batman villains made it to the list..... which made up my top 5. Based on what is left on here... I guess Moody, just for the David Tennant head to mashup for a Doctor Who figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was on the fence about cloud city until this article due to the price point, However with the figures listed in the poll I went back and looked at all 21...now it is a must have!

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Knightmare Batman.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Series 18 was by far my least favourite CMF Series to date. I didn’t like any of them. It’s a shame to see so many of them in this list and none of the Batman movie Minifigs for example.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gonna have to go with Dragon Suit Guy. He was my favorite of that CMF line, and one I managed to get two of!

I'm surprised no one from Sons of Garmadon made the list, I was seeing a bunch of those in the comments of the last one. Then again the last one was a few days ago and I turned up early so things may have changed. Lando being here is no surprise, but I'm shocked to see that Han get so high when we've gotten so many similar versions before.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I really don't know whether to choose Lando or Luna Lovegood.
Luna Lovegood is a wonderfully (re)designed minifigure, her colourful clothes stand out among all the Star Wars and Hobbit/Lord of the Rings minifigures in my collection, I especially like her skirt. When I bought some of the Harry Potter Random Bags, I was glad to find a Luna minifigure in one of the bags.
Lando Calrissian, however, has a much simpler and less intricate design. But he definitely is the minifigure every Lego Star Wars fan had been waiting for a long time. The minifigure is an important part of any LEGO Star Wars collection. Plus, Lando simply is the king of style!
I'm still undecided... I'd probably choose ... Lando?... or Luna?
No Idea!

Gravatar
By in France,

I have not had any really outstanding 2018 minifigure in hands so far, so gotta vote for something I don't have and it's knightmare batman. another one that seems really well made but isn't in the poll in the infinity war iron man.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ha, I was literally holding Dumbledore as I saw the thumbnail.

I think moody is a bit more impressive tho.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted for the Classic Police Officer, it has a cool look to it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Kabuki Nya for sure. That fan is to die for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not too many ninjago nominees :( I guess the dragon hunters could have better (and different) torso. I would have voted for Daddy no legs or Mask of Hatred Harumi

Gravatar
By in United States,

Kinda surprised that Kabuki Nya was on the list (I don't remember seeing a lot of nominations, but granted I didn't keep up with reading all the new comments.) Anyway, that's the one I'm voting for, although most of the CMF S18 costume figs were great too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Come on! Where is Jessica Cruz, Lobo, Rrverse Flash, Firestorm, Cheetah, Killer Frost, General Merrick, Wasp, Ghost, the crook with the bee sting face in 60175, or the Lex Luthor that comes with DC Villains. Plus if we are going to have big-figs in the poll, we should add characters like Ace the Bat-Hound, Krypto, Puppycorn, and the SDCC Angry Kitty. Personally my favorite was the first figure I mentioned Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, but to participate in the poll I went with the Classic Police Officer

Gravatar
By in Canada,

My first choice was the wolf from the Pop-up Book but it didn't make the list!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanos LEGO
Thanos LEGO

Gravatar
By in France,

now that I think of it, War Machine looks really impressive, but then, I guess he isn't in the poll because no one could get it?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not voting. Firestorm was the best.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The 18th Collectable Minifig series was full-to-bursting with really great figures, but while I did like the dragon guy, my favourite was still the male stripper/cowboy.

I did love the Firestorm and Batwoman figs.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hmm looks like the police officer is winning. But I thought it was the best minfig of 2018 - not 1978! It's a great tribute but there are so many other unique designs to choose from. My nominations didn't make the shortlist but I voted Enfys Nest - if she had a proper head and hair I think the minifig would be even more popular.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Teen Groot was my favorite of the year, but apparently didn't make the second round, so...

Voting Dragon Suit guy because he was definitely my second favorite this year.

The police officer should not qualify; he's just a re-release! If this site existed back in 1978 he should have won then. He's... OK... but there's nothing interesting about him NOW compared to everything that came out this year.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I went with the Praetorian Guard (even though I don't have one yet), but Mad-Eye, Hagrid, Enfys Nest and Dumbledore were pretty close.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nya Kabuki is fabulous! Must get one of her somehow...to go with Queen Amidala....

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

First, I have to say 76112 Batman is very nice! It went totally under my radar coz superheroes aint my thing.

My favourite this year is ... Zia Rodriguez from Jurassic World.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@1947andallthat Agreed. There are so many. Would loved to have seen one or two of the figures from 21314, TRON: Legacy (LEGO Ideas), but these were good choices too. I personally went with the classic policeman.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I am going with Percival Graves on this one. It is just super detailed and incredible looking! With this minifigure they really captured the look of Colin Farrell on the one, and Sir Johnny on the other side. I'm really happy (and kind of proud) to have him in my collection!

To be honest, the complete Lineup of the HP & FB CMFs is awesome. They did a great job on those, sometimes better than the actual Versions in the sets themselves (Grindelwalds faceprint for example).

Gravatar
By in Norway,

My choices were between Dumbledore, Moody and the crook, in the end I went for the crook as he is an interesting non-licensed figure. No idea why the policeman tops the list though, not only is he plain and boring, he also deserves to share last place with Graves just for being a needlessly hard-to-get "chase" figure.

Gravatar
By in France,

I guess we don't need a poll for 2019 and can already announce the pink classic spaceman is the winner.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The bare chested crook is so unique. He opens up so many awesome possibilities for vignettes in town layouts. We see so many awesome super heroes and accessorised characters but for me, the simple city character with a terrific expression and printing will always make my day.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'm all for the baby with that cute reindeer design from the WV Fire Station. Built this set before Christmas and the whole family fell in love with that figure. So cute, so adorable, so much better than any of those licensed characters.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Luna's legs have my vote. Total game changer.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Brick Suite Guy/Girl for the special torso, which is something very unusual.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ This poll is about your favorite minifig - if you're looking for best minifig, that's a different poll.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Has to be the baby figure for me! Although I'd probably give the classic policeman my second vote if I could...
