Summer NINJAGO sets revealed!
Posted by CapnRex101,
Images of numerous upcoming NINJAGO sets have been published on meinspielzeug.ch. The theme is evidently divided between different environments this summer as several models are dominated by snow while the others feature an arid desert on their packaging.

FIRST! EPIC!
I dig that wolf and the castle. Thought Ninjago might have been on its way out with the Legacy release, but looks like it still has legs.
All look great, ninjago always make epic vehicles and hideouts like chima once did..
This wave is pretty good! The castle is a very nice build and the Titian mech looks very Japanese, as appropriate. I’m also getting some chima and Pharos quest vibes with some of these. A strong wave for sure, for both children and adults alike.
looks good.
A three-tailed wolf? Is it supposed to simulate the tail wagging, or is it actually meant to have three tails?
Maybe the Star Wars designers should talk to the Ninjago designers to get some clues on how to create interesting sets ;-).
There's images of the Friends heart boxes there too! They look great!
The $15 set with the wolf is cute. The rest aren't bad, but not my thing. I love the Asian buildings and none of them fit.
Dat mech tho
These are absolutely epic! I think it’s my favorite wave so far. The villains are so cool, I’m loving the snakes. 70671, 70674, and 70684 are must haves for me!
Why are these sets storywise in two locations?
I don't get it, the tree tailed white fox is in the cheapest set, while the fox helmeted girl in the most expensive one? Yeah, that makes sense...oh, wait...it's not.
That cobra build is very cool looking, such as the new snakehead moulds.
Nobody's gonna point out how different the boxes look? I don't really know how to feel about them, they're very interesting and I like the change of style but
is it too different??
Luckily I only want Lloyd's Journey, Coles Dirt Bike, and Spinjitzu Slam Zane. Phew!
I'm not into Ninjago but I love that 3-tailed wolf. So glad it is in the smallest set.
^Except that Titan Mech is pretty cool...
I have been not into this theme for a while (I have watched almost every season) because the theme started feeling bland with the second wave of the themes LEGO Movie, that is when I lost interest. But this line seems a little bit more promising!
@CM4Sci
I KNOW RIGHT?! I don't know why but that's what hypes me the most about these sets! I haven't even watched the show since season 7!!! And did you see the backs? They have the functions' "sound effects" IN THE NINJAGO ALPHABET!!! I would get any of these if only for beholding that KILLER boxart!!!
@Anak presumably there’s a story reason for it. It appears as though there will be two separate villain factions, which may have something to do with it.
the vehicles dont interest me, but i like the location builds
Looks like TLG is all in on Mechs. Spider-man, Ninjago, Avengers, and so on. A little tiresome and unoriginal in my humble opinion...
@Farmer_John: What would you suggest that would be more original than mechs? Because most vehicle types (cars, trucks, bikes, helicopters, etc.) have been done way more frequently than mechs, in a much wider variety of themes.
So can anyone make out the names of the various new characters? I can only make out a handful from the box images. Going to the actual website I can get the names of individual characters, but the various army grunts all have their names in German, and I doubt Google translate is giving me exactly what is says in English.
Cool kitsune (Japanese Fox spirit), I love it when they add actual mythology to ninjagos sets.
Will these sets be available June 1st to the entire world? Because the U.S has been receiving the summer line in August as of recent years
Will these sets be available June 1st to the entire world? Because the U.S has been receiving the summer line in August as of recent years
Some good, some great! And Im not even a ninjago fan.
The three-tailed wolf is cool. Possibly related to Japanese Kitsune, the multi-tailed trickster fox spirits?
The Land Bounty is the one I really like! I'm not big on boats, but land boats? YES!
I've always been impressed by the creativity and level of detail displayed within the Ninjago theme, it's good to see it continue in this wave.
@CM4Sci: I'm not sure I agree about them looking uninteresting. In the very least, it's a less repetitive look than always having the Ninjago logo across the top.
If kids don't respond well to it they can always change it back, but keeping things the same just because "that's how we've always done it" can lead to a feeling of stagnation or redundancy. Particularly now that all of Ninjago's main characters have had one or more waves as the featured character on the box art, which in the past was the main graphic design element that varied from one wave to the next.
What stands out as much more noteworthy to me is how these say "Ninjago" instead of "Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu", which further reinforces my suspicion that LEGO might be launching a sequel series alongside these instead of continuing the current "Masters of Spinjitzu" TV series beyond Season 10/March of the Oni.
@LEGOMKB: I agree about the very Japanese look of the Titan Mech! With its humanoid proportions it gives off fewer MechWarrior vibes and more Gundam vibes than most previous LEGO mechs.
@Anak: They did the same thing (with two separate settings) in Season 9: Hunted (the summer 2018 sets). However, in that case it wasn't as obvious from the box art, yet WAS obvious from the included characters. Lloyd, Nya, Pixal, and Skylor only showed up in the sets that took place in Ninjago City, while Kai, Zane, Jay, Cole, and Wu only showed up in the sets that took place in the Realm of Oni and Dragon.
In this case, Cole and Kai appear in sets that feature both the fire and ice settings and villain factions, so no telling how they'll feature both settings in the story this time around. It definitely feels new and different, though, which is presumably the intent.
With their fire and ice theming, I wouldn't be at all surprised if these two villain factions are just as opposed to each other as they are to the ninja!
@Farmer_John: I mean, do you think it's tiresome or unoriginal for City, Super Heroes, Creator, Classic, Friends, Jurassic World, Speed Champions, Hidden Side, Technic, The LEGO Movie 2, and Ideas sets to all include cars?
For that matter, castles showed up in at least seven different themes each year from 2016 to 2018, and I certainly don't remember anybody complaining that LEGO was focusing too heavily on castles!
So why should mechs be any different? Walking vehicles offer a very different building and play experiences than rolling, floating, or flying vehicles generally do, and evidently a lot of kids respond well to that, particularly now that LEGO is now able to design builds like those with more flexibility than was typically possible in 80s and 90s Space sets.
@SearchlightRG: The ice villains are the Ice Emperor, Ice Samurai, General Vex, Blizzard Sword Master, Blizzard Archer, and Blizzard Warrior. The Pyro Snakes include Aspheera, Pyro Destroyer, Pyro Lasher, and Pyro Slayer. The wolf/kitsune character is Akita. I think that's everyone?
@Phathead: I suspect LEGO has several reasons for putting the spinners in the regular sets:
• First, since they don't need as many specialized parts as they used to, LEGO can afford to spread one of the ninja's signature fighting technique across more of the theme
• Second, the spinners come in regular sets, but the "slammer" launchers and bases don't, so getting the spinner sets will still add additional play value for kids who already have the tornado pieces.
• Third, it helps reduce the price of the new tornado mold to spread them out across more than four sets.
• Fourth, the spinners and "FS" ninja in the regular sets seem to be a more restrained form of Forbidden Spinjitzu, while the ones from the spinner sets seem to show intense gold or silver energy consuming the elemental tornadoes as well as the ninja's bodies… possibly why this type of Spinjitzu is forbidden!
All in all, since we already had plenty of spinners in the first half of the year, I kind of like that the number of spinner sets for the second half is a little more restrained, and yet that it doesn't require some of the ninja missing out on "Forbidden Spinjitzu".
These look amazingly very awesome! I love their designs and interesting wilder build.
Good stuff. I love the Chima vibes, the Ice Samurai are awesome, and interestingly the snakes remind we of the Sea-Tron Aliens from that really old cancelled classic space faction with the segmented look. I'm really looking forward to this wave!
The only set that has me interested is the cool looking Lloyds Journey, I hope that ones worth around £15 cause that wolf is epic and the figures look nice enough, personally never cared for Ninjago
@Lyichir - I'm not paid the big bucks to come up with original ideas for TLG, but I assumed somebody was. I guess copying mechs from one theme to the next is original enough for some people. After all, every theme and minifigure should have at least one mech in the garage, right?
It's been 8 years, EIGHT years, and Ninjago is still good.
The Land Bounty is absolutely ridiculous in the best way possible.
Not gonna get them but they look hot and cold.
The Ninjago theme is so strong!
When I saw the pictures of the front of the box, I thought that it was the back, because it looked unfinished.
@Farmer John: If you think the mechs are just copied from one theme to the next, that's because of you having weak observational skills, not the sets having repetitive designs.
Ninjago, Super Heroes, and Overwatch mechs are are every bit as different from one another as a LEGO Super Heroes Batmobile is from a LEGO Speed Champions race car, a LEGO Friends convertible, or a LEGO Jurassic World jeep. The sizes, building styles, and visual language, etc. vary immensely from one set or theme to the next. Like, in what way does anything in 76115-1, 76117-1, or 75973-1 even SLIGHTLY resemble Lloyd's new mech, besides that they all have arms and legs?
@FarmerJohn: Except there aren't any mechs that are "copied over". This one in particular has a very different look than pretty much any mech Lego's done before, with a very tall, much more humanoid look with well-defined thighs and calves than the stouter, more mechanical-looking mechs Lego has done in the past (even in earlier Ninjago sets). As a big fan of Lego mechs (both in sets and MOCs), this one seems to be quite a leap forward for Lego sets in terms of design, which makes it bizarre to see people looking at it and thinking that because mechs are popular it means that Lego is "running out of ideas".
I really like that cobra mech! I'm not usually one for Ninjago, but that just looks fun.
I really like the direction this theme is going this time around. Also, is it just me, or are there A TON OF REALLY COOL NEW PIECES? (At least in new colors) This wave reminds me of when the Possession wave was released with all the new colors of pieces and the awesome dual molded ghost tail piece. I really appreciate all the dual molding this time around.
I will definitely have to pick up a lot of these but it might be a while!!
This Bounty is so Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
Well, another wave that actually looks quite strong.... and will pull money out of my wallet.
The big set will definitely on my list (due to another awesome looking dragon).
The dual-molded ice-samurai armor looks GREAT. That small set is a MUST. Lloyd mech looks so good to me I don't know why
As long as NINJAGO keeps being that good:
- Castle Theme will never come back.
- I will keep spending my money on it.
- My ninja-like figure collection is growing bigger than my traditional castle/medieval ones.
Ninjago is like Fenix, when you feel that is dying, they come back stronger and better...
I want all of it.
The Land Bounty is great (though with the number of ways the Bounty has been destroyed in the past, you'd think there would be nothing left at this point) and I will need that 3-tailed wolf, even if I only get it from Amazon or Bricks Cascade or something.
Pretty cool that the new wolf piece is in the smallest set. Im not really interested in any of the other sets so Im glad I wont have to buy a large set I dont want just for that awesome wolf. The box looks like more like a back than a front though, its really weird.
The Katana 4x4 is super ugly. The rest of the sets look awesome though. For a period, I wasn't really interested in Ninjago sets, but since Hunted, they're awesome.
Sexy :)
oof
come on lego get your act together and reveal the summer Harry Potter sets already
Embarrassed to say I didn't see the gigantic dragon taking up half the box on the castle set...
The Fire Fang and Castle sets look really good. I might pick them up if I can find them for a good price. Overall really good wave.
I was originally most likely going to get Cole's dirt bike based on the leaked preliminary image but this is a bit of a disappointment when comparing final to it. the prelim model had another rock piece over the rear wheel, spring loaded shooters with grapple and the front tread had a lower angle to the ground which gave it a cool menacing look. The final is still decent but not as good as it could've been.
Huh, interesting, they're definitely making it harder to collect all the unique Ninja figs this time; I am digging the crystal headgear Ninjas that appear to be spread out across the sets. And the two themes of desert snakes and snow samurai is interesting. I like the wolf, the Shuricopter, and the Cobra mech, and the ice dragon from the larger set, but most of the other vehicles and building are just more-of-the-same to me. (In that they're not bad, but not exactly appealing to me to buy.) The figs look great, tho, so I'm probably going to have some trouble building up that collection, heh. (Mildly disappointed that Nya went back to being gray)
So ... snakes as the badguys? Really, again?
I'm gonna buy the set with the three-tailed wolf, regardless, but still.
...is that Princess Mononoke in the castle set?
70677 is awesome. I hope it won``t be exclusive.
Was hoping for an addition to Ninjago City.
They look great! V pleased.
A new design for LEGO packaging!
The theme is written under the LEGO logo instead of near, and the set infos are bottom left.
It's the first time, am I wrong?
Chima vibes anyone?
On the other hand these sets do really look stunning. Many new pieces... Ninjago is becoming lego's "new" popular theme? (As chima and nexo knights were supposed to be)
I'd love to know where spinners are so popular because where I live they just take up A LOT of shelf space and they don't seem to sell at all. To the point that some stores have had 2-3 series of spinners on their shelves at the same time.
Loving the fox hat, and that crossbow design is excellent.
AWESOME!!!!!!!
Are those 2x4 modified plates new in 70671? (the four that are angled up - two to each side)
Those look interesting.
@alyxavior: They're 2x3, not 2x4, and no, they aren't new. They were introduced in white as shields for Stormtroopers in Star Wars and were used in Dark Red in the "Hunted" wave of Ninjago, as the main part of the shield used by Chewtoy.
Best Ninjago wave in a few years, in my opinion.
@Armint: Not quite an all-time first — the 2013 Hero Factory sets (https://brickset.com/sets/theme-HERO-Factory/year-2013) had similar packaging design, and there may be even more examples I'm forgetting. Still a really neat refresh after years of boxes that mostly varied in terms of which character's picture they had in the upper right corner.
@Graysmith: The fact that your local stores have continued to stock subsequent series of spinners even when they still have overstock of older series suggests to me that they most be making money off of them, so I would be surprised if they're not still selling well enough to justify their existence. Particularly considering that in this case it's just four sets, nowhere near the huge numbers we saw in 2011 or 2012
Keep in mind that lately, spinners/fliers have been released on about the same two-waves-per-year schedule as the main sets, rather than more frequent releases like the classic spinners/booster packs, Friends animal packs, Mixels, and Minifigures series. So this also means that it's probably expected for many stores to keep them on shelves for anywhere from a year to a year and a half, same as with a lot of standard LEGO playsets.
At the same time, the low price incentivizes stores to buy them in large quantities, because unlike bigger playsets, they're easier for kids to buy on impulse. Better to have overstock of the type of sets that most kids can afford and that won't take up much room on a shelf, than much bigger sets that you might have to mark down heavily to keep them from clogging entire shelves you might end up needing for future product lines.
@brickmasterboy: Ninjago was a "popular theme" along the same lines as those well before either of them came out! If anything, Chima and Nexo Knights have followed in Ninjago's footsteps with their multimedia storylines, concept development process, and overall pricing strategy. They all fall within the "big bang" category of themes which goes back a few years earlier, including such themes as Power Miners and Atlantis, and which is in turn based on a lot of the strategies that made the Bionicle theme so successful in the early 2000s.
Ninjago in particular really revolutionized "big bang" themes in a lot of respects by successfully implementing strategies like animated TV series, video games/apps, book series, and low-priced collectible gimmick/action sets (e.g. spinners, Speedorz, Battle Suits, etc).
Chapter 10 of the book "Brick by Brick" talks a lot about how "big bang" themes are developed, featuring Ninjago in particular as a case study.
Also is it me or does that 3 tailed wolf thing, look like a 3 tailed warg?
So I guess Ninjago has colonised Johnny Thunder's domain too...
I was looking through the website and found another set that's not in the Brickset database yet: 11004 Classic (Creating with windows? - I presume) https://www.meinspielzeug.ch/827/lego-classic-bausteine-kreativ-mit-fenstern-11004-374468.html
Slightly off subject, but I’m loving the new Duplo Yellow Submarine set. Always surprised that Lego hasn’t tried to diversify the Duplo themes more. For example, what young child doesn’t love space, yet I don’t remember many Duplo space sets? Great work on this set though Lego, really appreciate the consideration and execution.
Not a huge fan of Ninjago but the ice warriors look like they have good potential for being used as white walkers from Game of Thrones... the white faces with blue eyes are great!
That wolf... did anyone link it to "winter is coming" ??
Sets are brilliant minifigs are quite a must, a curious to know if these are a forgotten serpentine race or if they are part of one of the existing ones
Ice sets... no words, this wave looks brilliant
Looking forward for new exiting season 11 on TV
@Aanchir I said they were INTERESTING not UNINTERESTING lol
A change is always nice. Just still .. deciding how I feel about them
I looked at the wolf and thought, "Loth wolf!" (Star Wars Rebels)
Already saw them.
@Octopus.Boy: "Shuricopter" is a pun on "Shuriken". There's no character named Shuri (outside of Marvel Super Heroes, at least :P)
BTW, the site in question also has pics of the summer "heart box" sets for Friends. So those could stand to be added to the database.
Well, I'm a bit late to the party but I'll give my thoughts on the sets
Lloyd's Journey: A cute little set with 2 decent figures, an awesome wolf mold and a decent structure
Cole's Dirt Bike: The Serpentine in the set is awesome. The bike is an interesting new twist on the over- sized motorcycles. The new sword holders look interesting and the new gi looks interesting as well
Shuricopter: Reminds me of the Rattlecopter from 2012. The ice samurai look interesting and I believe the design is overall well done
Fire Fang: Not a bad set at all. Reminds me of the old Pharaoh's Quest sets from a while back. The snakes figures are once again quite well done and the Ninja are not bad as well
Katana 4x4: I don't know about this one. I feel like the design is lacking something and the wheels look far too bulky for my tastes, though they sure look interesting. The figures are nice, but the build looks kind of lacking for me. I might have to pass on this one
Lloyd's Titan Mech: Overall, my favorite set of the wave. The design of the mech looks absolutely stunning and beautiful. Definitely have some anime vibes to it. It's definitely one of the best looking mechs in recent years. I will have a hard time passing on this one. The figures aren't bad but the build really outshines the figures here.
Land Bounty: Another set I'm questioning. The figures are pretty good, as always, but I feel like the design could have been better executed. Maybe the idea of a flying ship now turned into a dune buggy is a bit much for me. I just feel like the design could have been done better. I'll probably pass on this one
Castle of the Forsaken Emperor: The design looks interesting but very shallow. I'm not sure how much I'll like it. The wyvern looks like an interesting build as well as the giant crossbow and the throne. The figure selection here is outstanding, but I'm not sure how impressive this palace is for me. We'll have to see if this turns out to be decent or not.
Spinjitsu Slam: Overall an interesting concept, though I have heard rumors you have to buy these in order for the ones in the sets to functon. I'm not sure how effective this concept is exactly. Soem of the sets are more appealing than others. I feel like Zane and the Kai versus the ice Samurai are the most successful, followed by Lloyd and then Jay last.
Overall these are my thoughts on the wave. A pretty decent wave with interesting figures and mostly decent sets.
1) Wau there much love poured into these sets. Fantastic builds really
2) I'm so sad the Ninjago didnt stick to me at all. I feel the train passes by and I'm waiting for it to finish so another theme can pick up that I hope I like. But this one just keep adding wagons on each year.
3) the box design is such a welcomed update.
@Octopus Boy: The new mask designs aren't intended to resemble crystals so much as an aura/halo of elemental energy around the characters' heads. A lot of anime uses similar effects to symbolize supernatural power or battle-readiness — see https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BattleAura for some various examples. In the case of these sets it represents the power the Ninja unlock when using Forbidden Spinjitzu.
@Renaissance Ravenly: You can presumably spin the spinners from the sets by hand just like the ones from the first half of the year, but the slammer launchers from the Spinjitzu Slam sets make them pop into the air and I think maybe also spin faster.
All of the sets in this season look great, much better than the previous few seasons. I thought the Ninjago series would end with the previous 'back to series 1' design. Well done designers!
Ninjago has turned out to be such a strong in-house IP for Lego. While I hope to see them diversify with more original ideas, I still enjoy each year’s new lineup. They pulled it off again and these look great.
Looking like an epic wave! Loving the contrast between fire and snow. I still haven't seen March of the Oni (has it aired officially? I know it leaked way back in like February) but I'm looking forward to what's coming next.
That giant cobra looks especially great
I feel like with Ninjago it’s always just evil snakes of some sort. I found themes like “Rebooted” to be very interesting because it involved things like robotics and cyborgs and more techno stuff, it was a breath of fresh air after a lot of the more traditional stuff that had come before with the skeletons and “Rise of the Snakes”. I wish LEGO would stray away from the whole “evil snake” idea for a bit and do something different.
All these sets look good! I want to address one thing though, every one keeps referring to the “3 tailed wolf” but it is actually a 3 tailed fox, a creature from Japanese mythology.
@Flubernugget: The descriptions call it a wolf. It may be based conceptually on a kitsune, but Lego doesn't seem to be adhering strictly to its actual mythological basis in this case.
@rikdog1517 Spinjitzu SLam Cole doesn't exist. But there is forbidden spinjitzu cole in the land bounty with the same type of mask as the other spinjitzu slam ninja and it also includes the tornado.
