Looks like TLG is all in on Mechs. Spider-man, Ninjago, Avengers, and so on. A little tiresome and unoriginal in my humble opinion...

So can anyone make out the names of the various new characters? I can only make out a handful from the box images. Going to the actual website I can get the names of individual characters, but the various army grunts all have their names in German, and I doubt Google translate is giving me exactly what is says in English.

The only set that has me interested is the cool looking Lloyds Journey, I hope that ones worth around £15 cause that wolf is epic and the figures look nice enough, personally never cared for Ninjago

@Lyichir - I'm not paid the big bucks to come up with original ideas for TLG, but I assumed somebody was. I guess copying mechs from one theme to the next is original enough for some people. After all, every theme and minifigure should have at least one mech in the garage, right?

The dual-molded ice-samurai armor looks GREAT. That small set is a MUST. Lloyd mech looks so good to me I don't know why

As long as NINJAGO keeps being that good:
- Castle Theme will never come back.
- I will keep spending my money on it.
- My ninja-like figure collection is growing bigger than my traditional castle/medieval ones.
Ninjago is like Fenix, when you feel that is dying, they come back stronger and better...

Pretty cool that the new wolf piece is in the smallest set. Im not really interested in any of the other sets so Im glad I wont have to buy a large set I dont want just for that awesome wolf. The box looks like more like a back than a front though, its really weird.

The Katana 4x4 is super ugly. The rest of the sets look awesome though. For a period, I wasn't really interested in Ninjago sets, but since Hunted, they're awesome.

Embarrassed to say I didn't see the gigantic dragon taking up half the box on the castle set...

The Fire Fang and Castle sets look really good. I might pick them up if I can find them for a good price. Overall really good wave.

I was originally most likely going to get Cole's dirt bike based on the leaked preliminary image but this is a bit of a disappointment when comparing final to it. the prelim model had another rock piece over the rear wheel, spring loaded shooters with grapple and the front tread had a lower angle to the ground which gave it a cool menacing look. The final is still decent but not as good as it could've been.

Huh, interesting, they're definitely making it harder to collect all the unique Ninja figs this time; I am digging the crystal headgear Ninjas that appear to be spread out across the sets. And the two themes of desert snakes and snow samurai is interesting. I like the wolf, the Shuricopter, and the Cobra mech, and the ice dragon from the larger set, but most of the other vehicles and building are just more-of-the-same to me. (In that they're not bad, but not exactly appealing to me to buy.) The figs look great, tho, so I'm probably going to have some trouble building up that collection, heh. (Mildly disappointed that Nya went back to being gray)

So ... snakes as the badguys? Really, again?

I'm gonna buy the set with the three-tailed wolf, regardless, but still.

I'd love to know where spinners are so popular because where I live they just take up A LOT of shelf space and they don't seem to sell at all. To the point that some stores have had 2-3 series of spinners on their shelves at the same time.

@alyxavior: They're 2x3, not 2x4, and no, they aren't new. They were introduced in white as shields for Stormtroopers in Star Wars and were used in Dark Red in the "Hunted" wave of Ninjago, as the main part of the shield used by Chewtoy.

Best Ninjago wave in a few years, in my opinion.

@Armint: Not quite an all-time first — the 2013 Hero Factory sets (https://brickset.com/sets/theme-HERO-Factory/year-2013) had similar packaging design, and there may be even more examples I'm forgetting. Still a really neat refresh after years of boxes that mostly varied in terms of which character's picture they had in the upper right corner.

@Graysmith: The fact that your local stores have continued to stock subsequent series of spinners even when they still have overstock of older series suggests to me that they most be making money off of them, so I would be surprised if they're not still selling well enough to justify their existence. Particularly considering that in this case it's just four sets, nowhere near the huge numbers we saw in 2011 or 2012

Keep in mind that lately, spinners/fliers have been released on about the same two-waves-per-year schedule as the main sets, rather than more frequent releases like the classic spinners/booster packs, Friends animal packs, Mixels, and Minifigures series. So this also means that it's probably expected for many stores to keep them on shelves for anywhere from a year to a year and a half, same as with a lot of standard LEGO playsets.

At the same time, the low price incentivizes stores to buy them in large quantities, because unlike bigger playsets, they're easier for kids to buy on impulse. Better to have overstock of the type of sets that most kids can afford and that won't take up much room on a shelf, than much bigger sets that you might have to mark down heavily to keep them from clogging entire shelves you might end up needing for future product lines.

@brickmasterboy: Ninjago was a "popular theme" along the same lines as those well before either of them came out! If anything, Chima and Nexo Knights have followed in Ninjago's footsteps with their multimedia storylines, concept development process, and overall pricing strategy. They all fall within the "big bang" category of themes which goes back a few years earlier, including such themes as Power Miners and Atlantis, and which is in turn based on a lot of the strategies that made the Bionicle theme so successful in the early 2000s.

Ninjago in particular really revolutionized "big bang" themes in a lot of respects by successfully implementing strategies like animated TV series, video games/apps, book series, and low-priced collectible gimmick/action sets (e.g. spinners, Speedorz, Battle Suits, etc).

Chapter 10 of the book "Brick by Brick" talks a lot about how "big bang" themes are developed, featuring Ninjago in particular as a case study.

Slightly off subject, but I’m loving the new Duplo Yellow Submarine set. Always surprised that Lego hasn’t tried to diversify the Duplo themes more. For example, what young child doesn’t love space, yet I don’t remember many Duplo space sets? Great work on this set though Lego, really appreciate the consideration and execution.

Not a huge fan of Ninjago but the ice warriors look like they have good potential for being used as white walkers from Game of Thrones... the white faces with blue eyes are great!

Well, I'm a bit late to the party but I'll give my thoughts on the sets
Lloyd's Journey: A cute little set with 2 decent figures, an awesome wolf mold and a decent structure
Cole's Dirt Bike: The Serpentine in the set is awesome. The bike is an interesting new twist on the over- sized motorcycles. The new sword holders look interesting and the new gi looks interesting as well
Shuricopter: Reminds me of the Rattlecopter from 2012. The ice samurai look interesting and I believe the design is overall well done
Fire Fang: Not a bad set at all. Reminds me of the old Pharaoh's Quest sets from a while back. The snakes figures are once again quite well done and the Ninja are not bad as well
Katana 4x4: I don't know about this one. I feel like the design is lacking something and the wheels look far too bulky for my tastes, though they sure look interesting. The figures are nice, but the build looks kind of lacking for me. I might have to pass on this one
Lloyd's Titan Mech: Overall, my favorite set of the wave. The design of the mech looks absolutely stunning and beautiful. Definitely have some anime vibes to it. It's definitely one of the best looking mechs in recent years. I will have a hard time passing on this one. The figures aren't bad but the build really outshines the figures here.
Land Bounty: Another set I'm questioning. The figures are pretty good, as always, but I feel like the design could have been better executed. Maybe the idea of a flying ship now turned into a dune buggy is a bit much for me. I just feel like the design could have been done better. I'll probably pass on this one
Castle of the Forsaken Emperor: The design looks interesting but very shallow. I'm not sure how much I'll like it. The wyvern looks like an interesting build as well as the giant crossbow and the throne. The figure selection here is outstanding, but I'm not sure how impressive this palace is for me. We'll have to see if this turns out to be decent or not.
Spinjitsu Slam: Overall an interesting concept, though I have heard rumors you have to buy these in order for the ones in the sets to functon. I'm not sure how effective this concept is exactly. Soem of the sets are more appealing than others. I feel like Zane and the Kai versus the ice Samurai are the most successful, followed by Lloyd and then Jay last.
Overall these are my thoughts on the wave. A pretty decent wave with interesting figures and mostly decent sets.

@Octopus Boy: The new mask designs aren't intended to resemble crystals so much as an aura/halo of elemental energy around the characters' heads. A lot of anime uses similar effects to symbolize supernatural power or battle-readiness — see https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BattleAura for some various examples. In the case of these sets it represents the power the Ninja unlock when using Forbidden Spinjitzu.

@Renaissance Ravenly: You can presumably spin the spinners from the sets by hand just like the ones from the first half of the year, but the slammer launchers from the Spinjitzu Slam sets make them pop into the air and I think maybe also spin faster.

All of the sets in this season look great, much better than the previous few seasons. I thought the Ninjago series would end with the previous 'back to series 1' design. Well done designers!

Ninjago has turned out to be such a strong in-house IP for Lego. While I hope to see them diversify with more original ideas, I still enjoy each year’s new lineup. They pulled it off again and these look great.

Looking like an epic wave! Loving the contrast between fire and snow. I still haven't seen March of the Oni (has it aired officially? I know it leaked way back in like February) but I'm looking forward to what's coming next.

That giant cobra looks especially great

I feel like with Ninjago it’s always just evil snakes of some sort. I found themes like “Rebooted” to be very interesting because it involved things like robotics and cyborgs and more techno stuff, it was a breath of fresh air after a lot of the more traditional stuff that had come before with the skeletons and “Rise of the Snakes”. I wish LEGO would stray away from the whole “evil snake” idea for a bit and do something different.

All these sets look good! I want to address one thing though, every one keeps referring to the “3 tailed wolf” but it is actually a 3 tailed fox, a creature from Japanese mythology.

@Flubernugget: The descriptions call it a wolf. It may be based conceptually on a kitsune, but Lego doesn't seem to be adhering strictly to its actual mythological basis in this case.

@rikdog1517 Spinjitzu SLam Cole doesn't exist. But there is forbidden spinjitzu cole in the land bounty with the same type of mask as the other spinjitzu slam ninja and it also includes the tornado.
