Midnight opening event at London's Leicester Square store

Posted by ,

LEGO has announced a midnight opening event at its flagship store in London on Wednesday 15th May. This suggests to me that a new set will be available to buy for the first time at the event.

It's a bit unusual, but I guess stranger things have happened...

LEGO Spoiler: a lot of people who are usually really accurate when it comes to leaks are saying that it's a Stranger Things Iconic House set for $200. They also say it'll be available in June with early access in May for VIPs.

I'll be honest, I didn't believe it (despite their accuracy) because it seems so strange. I guess that Stranger Things have truly happened!

Also, it was purely coincidence that I posted my last comment at 11:11. Serendipity!

If it’s got flashing fairy / Christmas lights I’m in.

I suspect it will be likr the Death Star reveal where it was revealed to the public while store employees assembled.

Should I know what Stranger Things is? Never heard of it up to now.

From what I just read on Wikipedia, it doesn't sound like something that would lend itself to a LEGO treatment, to be perfectly honest.

I am really excited for this set. I am sure Eleven, Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin will be in the set, but I really hope there is a demogorgon minifigure too! If Joyce, Hopper, and Jonathan came with the set, that would just be icing on the cake. I don't want to get my hopes up too much for Max, Steve and Nancy, but you never know. I assume there would be some homage to Barb. Maybe a newspaper or something.

Well, if you are LEGO, and trying to drive the point home that this set is marketed for age 16+, a midnight launch would do it.

So Stranger Things, huh? That's unexpected...
From what I understand (haven't watched the show, played a bit of its mobile game), this show is maximum 80s with paranormal stuff, so seing as how the nostalgia wave is barely starting to leave the 80s and paranormal stuff tends to be quite the rage in some circles (and LEGO themselves plan to re-enter the subject with their very own Hidden Side) I guess LEGO could find a venue there, no matter how tangential...

I haven’t watched a single second of Stranger Things (no Netflix and I only watch programmes legitimately) but I can see what a phenomenon it is and the set might look really interesting to merge with Hidden Side if true. A friend tells me it’s a little bit like Super 8 (the movie) but drawn out into a tv series.

@The Rancor if you don't have Netflix, they actually sell Stranger Things on 4k\Blu-ray\DVD at Target. I am always hesitant to watch popular mainstream shows, but I am so glad I actually watched this one. Probably one of my favorite series ever made. I really dig the music that Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein created for the show too.

Ever since the first rumors were popping up online about this LEGO set being released, I was really hoping it would happen. I actually held out on buying any action figures from the show because I thought this might happen. Now that it is basically confirmed, I am so excited! Woohoo!!!

Guys, after researching Stranger Things pictures, the photo is the top of Will Byers' head. This is definitely Stranger Things. Also, graph paper for DnD.

So this is pretty much confirmed. LEGO sent out an invite to save the date for an event with the same classified folder image at the Flatiron NY Store in the USA, Tuesday, May 14 from 9pm-11pm. When you click the link, the url ends in: &RMID=VIP_2019_05_01_LBR_Stranger_Things_Teaser_NA

I'm not pasting the full link from the email since it might be a unique one to identify my account.
