Oh. My. God
Yes, in Bizzaro World
The One I've been waiting for

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I really wasn’t but then I saw this and watched an episode of friends the other night and now I kinda am. Oh dear help me

Gravatar
By in Finland,

The "random set of the day" today was called "Fun Friends Frame". Coincidence?

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

Sweet! Looking forward to it

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’ve seen the leaks of the figs and they look great! I’m super excited for this!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would personally like to see a Seinfeld set. Go support a version of it on Lego Ideas.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huh. I wonder if my wife will want this one. She is a big fan of the show.

Gravatar
By in France,

The Lego Ideas version that was approved was kinda ugly. I'm a huge fan of the show, but unless they find a way to make it less bad-looking, I'll pass...

Gravatar
By in United States,

This show is the most frustrating part of my marriage with my wife loving it and me hating it (so we have a pretty good marriage). I hate that the season DVDs sit along side my “far superior” collection of television. I’m actually glad she’s not a big enough LEGO fan to insist on this set!

For other fans though, I’m glad they can have it.

Side note: Friends is stylized with interpuncts as F•R•I•E•N•D•S, not with full stops.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've got a bunch of other ideas sets I'm still saving to buy so who knows when I'll manage to grab this too, it's on the list now.
I'm old enough to be able to say I watched friends back when it was new and I'm not a repeat viewing kinda person so it's a real blast from my past for me. Get ready for the "what no Gunther?!" ragers.....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wonder if we will get central perk or the larger apartment or even perhaps just sofa lamp and a fountain.... if anyone has an idea what it is I'm interested..

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

Never watched the show, but I hope the set will be good!

Gravatar
By in France,

Wow. Impatient to discover Joey's minifig!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ericjohn - Full stops or hyphens are routinely used in place of interpuncts when words are stylised but I have updated the title for clarity.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love how LEGO teases this with "The one with..." as that's how every episode title in the series starts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No i do not want this set, I did not watch the show and never will.

Gravatar
By in Ukraine,

Well, that is an awesome news!! The second best comedy TV show after BigBangTheory!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@astarguy: so why on Earth did you think your comment would be useful?

Anyway, LEGO F•R.I•E-N.D-S is gonna get very confused with LEGO Friends... Minidolls in this set would have been glorious!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego figures are constantly dislocating their shoulders to perform basic tasks.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've never seen an episode and hopefully never will but I'm curious to see what LEGO comes up with.

Gravatar
By in United States,

TLG putting the "tease" in teaser. Seriously, shortest teaser video I think I've ever seen. I guess it worked though, looking forward to seeing more, lol.

@Huw, don't knock it 'til you try it (or I'll have to report your comment lmao! :) It's one of the best light hearted feel good sitcoms of the '90's :) Next project, LEGO Seinfeld!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Mica86- it’s an Ideas set based off of Central Perk. I’ve heard it’s 1700 pieces which seems massive for a Friends set to me, but it could be really cool!

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Yo @Jefry Been, your comment is inches away of being reported ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

So now LEGO has two themes called Friends. Could that *be* any more confusing?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Librarian1976, since this is just one set and not a theme I don’t suspect there will be too much issue. But it is amusing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh I'd seen the original ideas submission buts it rather large I'm half expecting them to abandon the build or heavily scale it down if they stick with the coffee store.

Why hopefully never will Huw? The adverts been enough to convince you it's not your cup of tea? Honestly not sure I'd enjoy it much now, was many years ago during the original airing I watched.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

My wallet is thankful that I hate this show.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lol librarian not sure if your making a friends joke there or making a serious point. Sounded like a Chandler comment :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

What's up with the "Never seen the show, and hopefully never will" comments. I'll agree that it was an odd idea to aprove, but more the nature of the show being a little graphic at times, but it's also not all that worse than the PG-13 movies that licensed sets are based off of. I've never gone out of my way to watch the show, it's constantly on in syndication, but from what I've seen it's a quality show. It definitely sounds more like it has been overhyped to people that have not seen it. It's not the second coming, it's not going to change your life forever, but it certainly earns its title as one of the best sitcoms of all time. But you know, it's your opinion, just maybe form your opinion more from the show itself and not the fans, as with all properties and their respective fandoms.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I grew up around the show, my mom (and to an extent my sister) is a serial fan who watches it all the time on reruns so I see it on TV almost every other day it feels like. It gives us all a chuckle, but my mom's insistence to re-watch it again and again is a bit bemusing. With that said... I know we are going to have to purchase this set for her and if she isn't getting it I'll get it for myself!

Now... if you haven't seen the show should you watch it? Hard to say, Friends and Seinfeld came out really at the peak of America's sitcom scene and both could be considered the best examples in the genre. But its a genre that has changed a lot or in some cases just fallen out of favor in the decades since Friends went off air. The show was filmed in front of a live studio audience, so it has sound of the audience laughing off screen which is a style of television that has definitely fallen from grace (of course one of the few shows to still use that method was The Big Bang Theory and well, that got a Lego set to!). The character's are very rooted in 90's culture, so it might seem dated to anyone younger than 20 who didn't experience the decade themselves. But the humor is still pretty funny, and its aged a lot better than the snooze-fests of older sitcoms (looking at you The stronger than Xanax Brady Bunch...). No Friends is not as smart as say something like MASH, The Office/Parks&Rec, or animated shows like The Simpsons and Futurama, but its enjoyable to say the least.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm really surprised that marketing approved Lego F•R.I•E-N.D-S when Lego Friends was already a thing and there's no overlap. Some young lady is going to open up a minifigure Chandler Bing on her birthday and burst into tears.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool. This show began while I was in college and all my roommates were stoked each week. I just didn't get the show. Fast forward many years and I found it very very funny. Now it's truly a classic to me. Those first 4-5 seasons are soooo funny. Glad to see a LEGO set coming.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not a fan of the show, but I hope this set sells well so The Office set gets made.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Well, I really like the show and the leaked figures I've seen so far! But wether or not I'm actually going to buy this set completely depends on the pricing, especially as the original submission was really large (and extremely ugly looking)

Gravatar
By in United States,

So hyped!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@MCLegoboy, I think his comment about hoping to never see it is probably just him having no desire to see it because he doesn’t find the subject matter interesting. Or maybe he’s afraid he’ll get hooked, so he doesn’t want to take the chance ;) Either way, it’s no big deal.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great for the fans but not my thing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I grew up watching the show, and while I enjoyed it at the time, its about 10 years too late now for me to have any interest in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I must have missed the announcement that they were even making this set. News to me! I thought the show was ok, not a super fan by any means. So idk, will have to see how the set turns out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I liked the show.
I like LEGO.
But LEGO about the show? Meh.

I'm sure some will want it, but not me. For those who do, enjoy the set! For the rest of us, there's always the international space station...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, I saw "friends" and thought of the LEGO theme and saw the . . . . and thought of robots so I started wondering if they were doing some weird sci-fi/friends doll crossover sets. Then I clicked the link and was disappointed...

Gravatar
By in Czech Republic,

Neverending story continues. What will be next? HIMYM, GoT, BG, TWD or another one from thousands of series? I thought that TBBT or Stranger Things will be enough, but obviously not.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Rul. Mad Men so I can have a Christina Hendricks minifigure please ;-)

Took me a while to work out what on earth HIMYM was.. still trying to figure out BG and TWD

Gravatar
By in United States,

All I hope is that this sells. From what I heard, the Flintstones and the Pop-Up book were pretty much flops in sales. Hopefully, there's a large fanbase for this to sell since they are the target group.

Gravatar
By in United States,

fun fact they had lego sets on the show (one episode has one of the original toa mata kaita combiners visible in the background) so this is kinda interesting

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@Mica86 I'd guess
HIMYM - How I Met Your Mother
GoT - Game of Thrones
BG - Battlestar Galactica
TWD - The Walking Dead

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

I'm gonna give this one a pass. Never liked the show (it was cringy AF) so this doesn't interest me in the least.

But I like they're doing more TV shows. And after Stranger Things, there's really no good reason why Game of Thrones, Black Sails or House of Cards couldn't have a set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

All I can say is that I hope LEGO doesn't lose their rear on this set. I find the show itself dull, and a zombie of syndication. It's been rerun to death. What's next, a Home Improvement set? For years, Friends was about as bad. Multiple channels were running blocks/mini marathons of the show, sometimes concurrently. Currently, Home Improvement is on 3 (CMT, Laff, UpTV) at varying hours. I could even swear WGN had it.

Gravatar
By in Czech Republic,

Not for me. Good for everyone who enjoyed the show, enjoy the set as well :)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Same here. I was never interested in the show so am also not interested in the set. Like with Voltron back then. But to everyone who likes the show, enjoy the set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My only interest in this set would be for spare parts. Never was a fan of the show.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Hm. Surprising to see so many people actually disliking the source material. But anyways like it or not it's an iconic piece of TV history, and I'm glad to see something like this being made. Very left field of Lego.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@cody6268: Ouch... I love Home Improvement and Friends. Haha but that's okay; clearly this set won't be for everyone. I personally have no interest in The Office or Seinfeld, but for those of you who do, I hope the current IDEAS projects are approved!

Now if we could just get an Everybody Loves Raymond set...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I'm not a fan but this set made me wonder what sort of grown-up themed set could use minidolls instead of minifigures

Gravatar
By in United States,

I absolutely love Friends and still watch it several times a week. I'm so excited about this set!

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

I haven't really seen the show, but I will definitely try and get this set for two reasons:
1. Just like with TBBT set, more variety of minifigs with realistic skin tones is always welcome in my collection
2. I really, REALLY hope The Office set gets made, and if this one sells well, it may help pave way for that one!

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Fantastic brand fit, licensing a show which consists of people trying (and occasionally succeeding) to sleep with each other.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

@Huw

“I've never seen an episode and hopefully never will”

What an odd thing to say, a bit disrespectfull. You find it that bad? How would you know if you never saw an episode?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I am honestly fascinated at how many people are interested in this set. Quite unexpected from a personal perspective.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Are these minidolls? What’s going on with their arms.

Gravatar
By in Czech Republic,

@Legorides well yeah, I agree with you.. its not about the personal taste - not at all! everybody likes a a different movie, tv show etc.. but TO MISS and AVOID - not to mention (with almost a hint of some glamour ".. ive never seen a single show") .. aka. of one of the three most fav TV series of all the time.. .. that just does not compute..

really.. it does not.. Huw must have been deliberately avoiding to see a single episode in all ten years that it was aired.. and that has been more than 250 episodes ..

so to sum it up.. I think that being him referring to "Frienda" in bricks seems to be a lot biased and the article and whatever else around this TV theme in regard with LEGO would come up should be covered by someone else.. someone, who does admit that he/she has seen at least a ONE SINGLE episode in whole ten years..

Gravatar
By in Czech Republic,

@ MCLegoboy it has all to do with the fact that the Friends ended in 2004? If im not mistaken.. that is 15 yrs ago.. how many 20+ or even 30+ youngs remember that? .. its like somebody would ask me to remember some 50's shows that I have never seen because it was waaaz before my time..

I have to agree that Lego simplz just again missed the right moment. What thez are trying to achieve is a mystery to me... perhaps a sort of discreatly airing a new unofficial theme "tv shows"? Big Bang, Ghostbusters ECTO 1, ideas "office" . and now Friends?

Gravatar
By in United States,

To everyone saying this is a bad choice, Friends is very popular. It’s very iconic in the US at least and to this day is regarded as one of the best television shows of the last 30 years. I myself couldn’t care less about it, but there’s a big following of it.

Now, I don’t know if that would translate to sales or not, but I think a lot of people are considering this a terrible decision simply because they don’t like the show. There are tons of examples of themes I don’t like that sell extremely well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No, I'm not interested in this set.

I hope it isn't too expensive, though, even if I'm not going to buy it. I would think fans of the show who might be marginal Lego fans/Lego aware probably don't want to lay down a chunk of money on an expensive and harder to build set.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

O.M.G! Spelled with Janice voice

Gravatar
By in United States,

Could this -be- any more Lego??

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Lego F•R•I•E•N•D•S Lego spin-off series, now that would be something.

Gravatar
By in United States,

NO

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

So no one told you life was gonna be this way

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huw, you say you've never seen an episode (and hope you never will) but are interested to see what Lego come up with. How can you form an opinion when you have no point of reference to base it on? I think think set will be very much one for the fans of the show rather than an involving build for fans of Lego whom have no interest in the show.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

In defence of Huw, I must say I have seen a couple of episodes and concluded it wasn't for me. Just not my kind of humor or subject matter I am interested in watching.
I guess Huw knows the premise of the show and that might be enough for him to hope to never have to see an episode of it. I don't think it has anything to do with being disrepectful. He didn't bash the show in any way, he just said he hoped that he (personally) would never have to see an episode of it. What's wrong with that?
There are so many shows on TV/Netflix/Amazon etc. where, going by what I have seen in official trailers, I would also hope to never see an episode of.

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Kids really want this? I think they'd appreciate a castle or a train set far more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGI will never make GoT, TWD, or HIMYM sets. Battlestar maybe. Office maybe.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

This set is INSANELY popular on LEGOs Instagram site - it has e.g. 10 times as many views as the Mustang.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Frustrated by LEGO Group going with licensed product, again.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

F·R·I·E·N·D·S is definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

I personally Love it, it started airing just as I got married, and I watched it for all 10 years it aired with my wife.
Now it's repeated constantly, my Kids love it too!

BUT...
For the people saying its not a popular choice, or that Lego are too late and have missed the hype of the show, remember that
• 10,000 people voted for it on IDEAS,
• Netflix spent $100 MILLION for just one year's worth of streaming,
• F·R·I·E·N·D·S Fest seems to tour the UK each year and sells out
I'm guessing it's still pretty popular.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego Friends. Lego F·R·I·E·N·D·S. I'm sure that won't get confusing at all...

Gravatar
By in United States,

F-R-I-E-N-D-S is better than Babylon 5, BSG, Doctor Who (more like Doctor Who-Cares, amirite?) and The Walking Dead. Combined.

Come at me.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Ah just saw some leaked images. interesting set. You clearly see it's reference. Some nice easter eggs. I'm not to much of a fan to consider buying it though. But its a nice set.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@Jeffrexx01 - my only reply is that I couldn't disagree more, but each to their own... (I have watched a season of Friends, and then I discovered the show Coupling - honestly no comparison for me, the humour of Friends simply didn't stand up to the humour of Coupling.. but very much a personal choice). However, even then, I would take any sci fi over a sit com.

I will say again I am very surprised at the popularity of this set, but it is great that so many sets can reach different Lego fans.. which at the end of the day.. we all are.
