Wow - I, too, often hold my infant son with one hand when using my snowblower.
So great!!!! I Love both minifigs
This might be my first Winter Village set. It looks fantastic, and a great ppp too!
Omg this looks amazing!!! And I love that the two Gingerbread figs are new, not duplicates of the regular gingerbread man.
Ginger brick tool???
No matter how you feel about the house, you have to admit that the toilet in the bathroom is amazing. (You can see it and the interior if you look under more images in the database.)
very nice but not my thing, whew my wallet is safe (a little)
Great set. However when I read that there were three figures including a baby we were excited that there was going to be an actual gingerbread baby figure... But it's a 1x2 tile? They are now calling 1x2 tiles figures?
Cute! The house has a microscale look to it.
Glitter windows are cool too!
Just beautiful.
Lovely, and very reasonably priced as well.
I can’t really get it into my head that that’s a gingerbread house, just kinda like a weirdly coloured and shaped normal house :/
Interior is actually ok tho
Looking forward to seeing more pictures. Looks beautiful! Love the chimney, the stroller, and the minifigures. I haven't been excited for a Christmas set in a while, but this one looks pretty good. Well done LEGO!
I like that they’re keeping that Elves compass point jewel in production up on that Christmas tree
Love this set, one of my favorite themes for sure. One minor gripe, I wish they would have used the baby in papoose mold from Series 15 to make the Gingerbread Baby.
Looks like a lotta fun! Decent price to part ratio compared to the Fire Station, although far fewer minifigs.
Very nice on my wanted list, as it is on 1700 others...... already.
Includes 3 LEGO figures: a gingerbread man, gingerbread woman and gingerbread baby.
Except one "figure" is a printed tile.
Adorable (A Darn Dorable). My inner voices are having an argument, one is saying how cute and great it is and maybe even the wife will go for it, w/it being more of a Christmas decoration that the kids will love as well. The other voice is that of Ivan Drago from Rocky IV, saying "I will break you." He's actually speaking to my wallet. I'm telling him that this set is a good value, he's suddenly changing to my wife's voice and replying "it all looks the same to me, and how much money do you think you're going to spend this Christmas?" .... As it's not yet time for my psychiatrist appt. I think I will step out for a smoke, the next best thing.
What piece is the star on the tree?
@CCC There IS fire on both sides of the grate, but yeah, I was feeling like the outside fire was kind of weird too. Maybe it's supposed to be like an outdoor firepit gathering place, since the table and wood caddy are there too?
Wow definitely getting this sweet set, got a sweet tooth for the series 11 CMF gingerbread man so now I need his house.
Lovely set on the whole, nice PPP (even with the addional €10 for the Benelux – but I'll buy it in Germany), but just two figures (how dare they call a tile a minifig?) is very disappointing; maybe a couple of gingerbread people would have been a nice option, or some magical creature.
Other than that, I think that this set would have been even better if it had had a closed back that one could open, just like the Ideas Fisherman's House.
Easy insta-buy
"This festive set includes a new for 2019 gold ingot element in tan" is -apart from being a hard to read sentence- is a real stretch for the marketing...
(Awkward Silence)
This looks great. I think it would be easy and cool to convert it into a non-gingerbread home that's still festive and would fit in with the rest of the winter village.
Me likey... so cute and festive looking, I already have two gingerbread men that came in a box from bricktastic 2018, but could see them being added to this on my shelf...
@TheLegoGeek: 35649 from the Elves theme! https://brickset.com/parts/design-35649
Beautiful set! I’ve always wanted a Winter Village set but never got one, so I think I’ll finally make this my first one. It’s very well designed and the interior is fantastic. I do think it’s a major stretch to refer to a printed tile as a “figure”, though.
@CCC, Agree that the external fireplace is strange. It’s dysfunctional, environmentally unfriendly and financially wasteful. Is there a real world analogue to it with which I am unfamiliar?
@TheLegoGeek, Check out joedapoboy’s post above. He answered your question before you asked it. Scientists believe that joedapoboy is a bit psychic :~)
But the biggest issue with it from an architectural / design perspective, isn't the external fireplace, it's the fact that it's made of Gingerbread.
I think it looks superb, but am also torn as it won't fit in our set-up ... should be easy to convert to a 'normal' cottage though!
Wow, I just love this. So many details, never expected such great interior in a gingerbread house, I mean it's even better than most regular houses!
The windows are possibly my very favourite part, they look just fantastic - from the press release it seems the purple glitter bricks are new to this set, but the pink aren't?
(More Awkward silence because this set is bad)
Its a sweet little house, but:
- only 2 figures
- doesn't fit the winter village theme
Is it really a good idea for Mr Gingerbreadman to hop into that bathtub? Maybe if it's full of milk.
It certainly looks a million times better than I was imagining it would be. Day one purchase again this year ;)
Looks like a fine set - just about perfect for what it is. The shape is very nicely realized, the exterior detailing is attractive and cohesive, the furnishings are excellent, and the price is good. I haven't bought any Winter Village sets in the past, but if I collected that line this set would be an insta-buy.
"Includes 3 LEGO figures: a gingerbread man, gingerbread woman and gingerbread baby."
So Lego considers printed tiles to be figures now?
Wow, love this! And 1477 parts for $100 :D
It's nice. I don't have the Santa Workshop so this is a nice fantasy thing going on.
However the design is a little weird to me. The fireplace is given too much attention and kind of makes the house feel disjointed. But more importantly it doesn't have enough color, needs more 'candy' on the house.
Also if this set doesn't prove that LEGO randomly price gouges sets I don't know what will.
That's an amazing house set.
The building is cool, but man, that gingerbread family genuinely creeps me out for some reason. How is the kid even made? Do they just bake it?
Something that's not being talked about that look really good are the mini-build portions. The stroller is really nice, the snowblower is absolutely fantastic, the working rocking horse looks wonderful, the tree+star is really pretty, etc. Definitely a step up in for those small builds I feel like.
Oh my goodness! I have to admit I was skeptical when I heard about a gingerbread house, but this is fantastic. Can't wait to get it.
I can't figure out how they hid the light-brick? How is it activated?
Damn. Give this baby a rounded plate head at least.
Oops, guess I should read the press release first . . . . "Press the chimney smoke button to activate the light brick and make the fireplace glow."
@SinKiller Nick I THINK it's in the chimney, and probably activated by pushing the top of the chimney or the chimney smoke down.
Missed opportunity for Gingerbread papoose baby
I don't think this set can be described as anything but delicious.
Why is no one talking about that mustache?
That mustache is amazing.
This is very nice. Definitely have a winner here! Would love to know who designed this set.
I do like it.
@TheLegoGeek - Imposter!!! :D
The first thing that strikes me is the small number of minifigs. 2 is fairly low for a Winter Village set (I am NOT calling a printed tile a "minifig").
I gave the fire station a miss last year because it didn't feel necessary but that would fit much better with the other sets I've collected in this theme so far, assuming I can squeeze it in my setup which is getting rather crowded.
The question now is, will there be any Christmas promotional sets in October / November that can add to the whole theme?
@mscott71 et al.: If everyone considers the Han Solo Carbonite brick a minifigure, why not a printed tile?
Anyway, nice looking set, about $50 cheaper than I though it would be, so I'll buy this one.
Cool, a Gingerbread baby!
...
Oh. Right, a ... tile.
Easy pass.
@oldfan
The Han Solo Carbonite brick is a custom mould with a physical shape of a minifig jutting out of it. It is not a basic flat tile.
@inversion, Where do gingerbread babies come from, you ask. Wellllll.... When a mummy gingerbread and a daddy gingerbread love each other very much, they hug each other in a special way and nine months later the doctors/bakers take the gingerbread baby out of the gingerbread mummy’s tummy. While the baby is growing inside her tummy, she is said to have ‘one in the oven’. Hope that helps.
As was pointed out in the forum thread, the designer made a comment about the baby being 'freshly baked', and so if you think of the baby tile as a cookie fresh out of the oven, it's both appropriate and really clever I think.
Where they definitely go wrong is referring to said tile as a 'figure' in any way. Bad marketing speak which ruins an actual clever design choice :\
This is exactly the winter village set I was wanting ever since set 40139 (Gingerbread House) in 2015.
Only thing that concerns me is them going soggy in the bath. I really wasn't expecting the house to be lived in by gingerbread folk.
@Fizyx, while calling the tile a figure is misleading from what we’re all used to, that term shouldn’t take away from any enjoyment of the set.
@monkeyby87 Oh, I don't disagree. I really like the cleverness of it once I got it, and it feels appropriate to the set when you think of it that way. And honestly, even without another real 'figure' the set is fantastic imo.
Thinking about that nice bathtub - could it actually be the first brick built minifig scale bathtub to appear in a non-Friends set?
I was not sold the first glance of the house facade. So I immediately searched google for image of houses where the fire place is both outside and inside.
@Mr Classic 70323 Jestro's Volcano Lair has a minifig-scale brick-built bathtub.
Wow, the detail on this is amazing, i'm looking at all the snot work to make the frosting molding around the windows and doors. And I haven't seen a price this good in a while, either. I think I'm definitely in for one (and my kids I'm sure will love it!).
I've been avoiding WV sets, this one might make me take the leap.
Oh, wow. That's pretty!
Though I must admit... In the context of the rest of the Winter Village line, I find it a bit creepy that there are man-sized gingerbread people living among the townsfolk. Though I guess in a land of elves and flying reindeer, maybe it's not too far-fetched.
EDIT: I know I'm waaaay overthinking this, but why do Gingerbread people need a toilet and bathtub? Maybe it's for guests...
@560heliport: Thanks - I certainly didn't expect to find a bathtub in that set!
I find it rather amusing to read complaints about lack of realism when it comes to the house design, while it's apparently no problem with it being constructed by gingerbread and inhabited by a gingerbread family.
Very nice set - but the price seems awfully high for what is ultimately a fairly small building. I know it has a high part count but it looks like a lot of that will just be single studs - are Lego really planning on price gouging on every D2C from now on?
Hey @LegoSolo77...think of ALL the LEGO you could buy with that cig money if you quit smoking? :) It’s the hardest thing I ever did in my life, but been smoke free since 2008...never looked back. Chantix...miracle.
OK...the Strange: Gingerbrick Kid. More of a Gingerbread Facade than a Gingerbread House. Exposed Fireplace on the Outside? Is that a real thing?
The Sweet: Palatable Price Point, Nifty Design, Cool GingerMom and GingerDad MFers.
I’m definitely on board, though admittedly I am so way behind on LEGO stuff I want...I may have to sell one of my kids.
Keep the goats, @blogzilly!
I like it although the exterior fireplace next to the front door is strange. I'd prefer to cover that up with bricks.
I actually live in a house with an indoor/outdoor fireplace; both sides are glassed in.
When did a 1x2 tile earn status as a minifig!? They already have the mold for real babies like the sewer babies, why don’t use one of them?!? And too bad they did’nt include a ginger bread vehicle, that would be awesome! The set looks just average, nothing too spescial, no wow factor.
Super cool set. Haven't bought a Christmas set yet, but if my daughter sees this, she will fall in love.
Lego designer video with Tiago Catarino: https://youtu.be/VbqCzQPjU_w
The bathtub is for chocolate baths. :-)
Lego are doing it to me again, credit cards going to take another bashing with the new Imperial star destroyer, the Technic Land Rover And now this!!!
Looks like a gorgeous set, full of bright colours and attention to detail, looks almost good enough to eat but I think Lego bricks might get stuck in your throat!!!
I like the building. It has some great details. Although I’m. Little confused about the outside facing fireplace. And why are the Gingerbread folks the only ones in town with a toilet? Does everyone else have to use the possessed porta potty from the Hidden Side? Also how and why do the Gingerbread people use the toilet? And don’t look at me like that! You know it’s gonna be the first thing the kids ask! (It also leads to some horrible speculation as to how and where the printed baby piece arrives...)
I’m more than a bit disappointed with only 2 minifigs. These sets typically have 4 or 5.
That set's adorable!
My first thought was that I wanted a gingerbread papoose element, but I think they were going for the stamped out gingerbread cookie idea (freshly served on a cookie sheet?).
I'm sure they were going for "let the shiny fire show outward for display purposes" by designing it this way, but I will try a variant bricking mine in to be facing inward only.
A little odd of a thematic fit for the rest of the human-populated Winter Village, but I still kinda like this. Will work nice for Halloween'ing up for Hansel and Gretel as well.
Even though the Winter Village is in the land of make-believe, non-human occupants is quite a departure for the theme. I will no doubt be buying the set, but I think I’ll place a couple human inhabitants in this home and use the gingerbread mini figs more in a decorative roll.
Well, I'm buying this! My first winter village most likely.
@Chilis_no: My guess as to why the baby is the way it is is that none of the other "baby" parts or miniature figs would be flat and gingerbread-shaped enough. I also think the baby might be meant to be pulled out of the oven inside (that being, after all, how new gingerbread kids are born).
@Lyichir Haha, I see your points ;)
Perfect set. Great premise, fits perfectly with the holiday theme. Also super original!
After last year's fire station I said they could do a Christmas Eve robbery next. Wish they had done it.
@kari - that's being saved for after they license the Grinch. ;-)
An external fireplace makes zero sense, the cold wind would blow soot and smoke into the house.
Looks amazing. I skipped last year as I wasn't fussed on it. This year, I'll get it.
I love it! And it’s huge! Bigger than the winter village cottage.
I am very concerned that Gingerdad’s legs are going to dissolve in the bathtub, unless it’s filled with hundreds and thousands?!
Another designer video with Jamie https://youtu.be/3k2eh8czhC8
Only two stockings? I guess tile baby doesn't get one? haha
This is a great set, but it ruins the Winter Village. Btw, Im glad to finally see the Australian price listed on a set, even if it is overpriced as usual...
@ jeloshot : if they could make Gingerbread characters, they could do Shrek and Fiona too!!
I like the tile Gingerbreadman because it can become food for minifigures.
@Brickchap - if human "realism" is the standard, Winter Village was ruined by Santa and elves back in '14 no? Or do you think it is ruined for a different reason?
@CopperTablet
And the ENTIRE back wall of the house missing is of no concern? ;)
I gotta be honest. I don't like it.
Yes, it's a nice design. But no. The winter village is mostly an organic environment, a cosy little town at Christmas with some village buildings, a train station, and a fun fair, and -- if you stretch it -- a little tourist trap in the form of Santa's workshop. I was iffy on the Holiday Train because it looked more like a toy train than an organic part of this village, and the Gingerbread House is the same. It's just a bit ... weird.
Isn't it a little too early for the holidays?
So there's actually chocolate ingots in the bathtub! :-D
I'm actually happy that this doesn't fit other WV sets. Will save some money finally for my Assembly Square dream
I guess that when you put your dining room in the front yard, your fireplace also needs to point outside.
@Mr Classic - and new brown ice cream swirlies elements for the toilet? ;-)
I think the set is sweet. It either looks like a gb house or it’ll work fine as a regular snowy, decorated house. Annoyed at no figures but it’s not like I don’t have a bunch.
Winter village is my favorite line (though a couple more ninjago city sets could challenge that...)
I have them all but haven’t built or added the santa work shop set yet. This one will look fine though. Or maybe I’ll make a fantasy village with this and santa on another table!
What I’m debating is adding the new harry potter clocktower to the village... they’ll never make a real church!
I hurt the gingerbread boy
'Cause he's pretend bread boy
Little cookie man
never waved to me
So he got knocked out
This set is great, but I'm not sure if it will fit with the other Winter Village sets
I love the set but am quite disappointed at there only being 2 Minifigures. Calling the baby tile a figure is false advertising. I want to know what the Gingerbread people need a bath tub & toilet for. Do they poop chocolate chips or sprinkles? I personally think this set is a bit overpriced considering the lack of Minifigures. They should have at least included another child size ginger person or two with the shorter legs. I was also expecting to see a few new candy elements.
Looks nice but it does it fit with the rest of the winter village sets. The other sets are based on real life and this isn't.
I think this is a much nicer residence for the Winter Village than the old Winter Cottage was--it's more interesting to look at and also seems more in scale with the other buildings.
It also occurs to me we now have the ingredients for a Gingerbread Creche. Not at all sure that's what TLG had in mind, but at least it balances the Santa/Elves/Reindeer side of things!
I don't why, but something about this vaguely unnerves me.
Nice but poor fit for Winter Village (accepting that Santa's Workshop also falls in that category). Perhaps a few mods to make a WV sweetie shop?
Oh, nice gingerbread figures. But I don't think it fits in perfectly with the Winter Village. I would rather have had a family of nice mini-figures who had decorated their house like a gingerbread house. I also miss a vehicle. Every year I build the old timers in this series with great pleasure. Unfortunately not now. Of course it is bought, but it disappoints me a bit ...
The first time in a couple of years that I won't be getting a "Winter village" set.
Of course as others have mentioned it is not really a proper WV set anyway. Overpriced as well, taking into account the lack of more figures and the fact that about half of the pieces will be some kind of 1x1.
For a few years now I think the Winter Village theme has been used rather loosely. Really, it’s now just a holiday set as opposed to something that actually would be in a real winter village, if such a thing even exists. Plus, most of the mainstays of a winter village have already been done, or at least the sets that would be most interesting. Not to mention this has been a frequently requested set ever since the gingerbread man mini figure and mini house came out.
@Cindipool
"I don't why, but something about this vaguely unnerves me."
I'm with you. When I think of a gingerbread house, I don't think of a lovely festive scene. I think of Hansel and Gretel. The fireplace is even a very substantial part of the build. They had to have known what they were doing when they designed the thing.
I certainly do not want to lead the discussion off topic, but I'd like to share a small thought about - good riddance! - investing.
To whoever's not appreciating this set - or other WV sets, for that matter - think it over, ladies and gents.
The Winter Village theme seems to be one of the most enticing ones for investing. As an example, the 2010 Village Bakery 10216 set has at least tripled its value, and other sets are bound to follow the path.
I'm not an investor per se, but once in a while I like to bet on a set and stash it aside, as I'm sure other members of this website do as well. The WV theme is a good bet, and I tend to believe this set has it all. Now, let's abandon the chilly fields of scalping and let's go back to our regular playability/compatibility analysis.
I like it a lot. It's true that it might no fit perctly with the other WV sets, but you can always display it apart from that, on a different shelve or table. If I do buy it, I'd display it on my work desk at home, to give it a cozy feeling during December and start of January. We'll see...
BTW offtopic. Do you know when is planned official reveal of new star wars sets ? They are already on some shelf's in walmart.
What do you all mean this doesn't look like real life? Some of the houses I drive past around Christmas (in Australia no less) make this look like a half arsed effort at getting into the festive spirit.
Sure, some of the other occupants of the WV may be a bit snobby about that couple that dress up as gingerbread men and make gingerbread babies (I'm going to google it, I'm sure it must be a thing)
What will happen when the Gingerbreads takes a bath: do they dissolve? Do they fill the bathtub with milk?
@inversion
I think @oldfan was referring to sw0984, which is just a printed brick
I already have the Winter Toy Shop, the Winter Station, the Winter Train and a small Gingerbread house but I will pass on this one. I am not crazy about these ginger minifigs, and the house looks a bit off with regard to the other Winter buildings. What I hope is that there will be a new Winter Cottage someday as I missed the wonderful one from 2012...
Looking forward to this set and it's got a decent price for what's included.
So much want.
I'm actually kind of relieved the baby is the printed tile but only because at first I thought it was just the cookie on the tray the gingerbread dude was carrying...
Beautiful set!
I have mixed feelings about a fantasy set, but it fits with the Santa's Workshop they had a few years ago.
I’m not put off by the idea it’s a gingerbread house in a winter village theme... but it doesn’t really look like any gingerbread house I’ve ever seen. The chimney is awkwardly placed and the wrong color. It breaks up the facade. It either needs to be recolored , with the chimney outlined in white to match the white outlining of the rest of the house, or the chimney needs to be moved from the front. Quite frankly I’m surprised the Lego design process allowed this set to be produced as is. It almost looks as if they made a house, then later decided it would be gingerbread themed. Not sure I’ll get it because if I do I’ll have to heavily mod it.
Hah! I knew Jaime Berard was involved in this. My favourite of all the LEGO designers. He wasn't the main designer, but any time he is involved, it comes out excellent.
I can't believe people dislike this set (well, I can, but really?)
Why is there such negativity towards a set that is festive, different, and cheerful?
It fits perfectly with Santa's Workshop, gives us more Gingerbread people (including a baby), and is what MANY requested after the GWP Gingerbread house was released a few years ago.
While it is lacking a vehicle, the light brick (which returned last year in the Fire Station as a feature) can be viewed from the front and back of the house and adds play value.
Also, does anyone truly believe that the fire place and Gingerbread family is some sinister insinuation for a Hansel & Gretel themed set (If so, shouldn't there be a witch and children too?)?
I guess some aren't happy unless they are unhappy.
This is definitely being added to my collection (have all of them except the re-released Toy Shop).
Guessing by the sheer number of comments alone that this will be very popular! Being in Australia, the Winter Village sets don't really grab my attention, but this does!
I'm already thinking about how good two of them would be, back to back, or even slightly modified to make a full house.
Might just tell the wife that it costs $ 320. :)
"I guess some aren't happy unless they are unhappy."
Or ... maybe people just don't like something. Maybe it really is that simple?
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I am not a fan of Winter Village sets like this and the Santa's Workshop. I set the Village & train up under my tree & prefer the buildings/sets keep to the theme of an "actual" village setting. Nothing against making more fantastical sets like this, but I'd prefer to also have another set that is more on-theme (like a re-release of the Post Office?) yearly. After not being too impressed with the Firehouse last year that makes it 2 in a row for me not purchasing the Winter Village release :-(
The sourpusses here could really go for a cookie.
Very whimsical! Based a little less in reality than the previous sets, except for the Santa/Elves set. I really like it. I'm glad they're staying around the same price point. Perhaps its time to separate my winter village sets into two groups, realistic and fairy tale. Very creative incorporating candy/food in the building.
I agree with the Hansel and Gretel comment above in reference to the double sided chimney. Maybe they're alluding to how they make the gingerbread people, in a big oven!
"The sourpusses here could really go for a cookie."
^^THANK you. This set "ruins the WV line." What??
The answer is tongue-in-cheek whimsy. TLG has been doing this for years. Advent calendars, anyone? Y'all live under a rock or something? Sheeeesh!
Dare I ask what the wheels on the perambulator represent?
The "baby" in this set is the cookie on a plate, isn't it?
How macabre.
who owns the licence rights for the DreamWorks? Disney? or still LucasArts?.. if Disney, get me the Shrek and (human-form) Fiona for escalated price..
I'm pretty sure Universal owns the rights to Shrek & anything Dreamworks produced. Spielberg went with Universal while Lucas went with Disney. But since the Minions are switching from Mega Blocks to Lego who knows what other Universal licenses Lego will get.
I'd like to see a MOC with the chimney removed (or placed prolly on the left side).
Seeing this set in 3D it is indeed great looking in all angles and gives an impression that it's well-thought out with great details. So congrats to the team that designed it.
The absence of a vehicle in this set provided more (pieces) details for the house.
That's why the house look marvelous (with the chimney fixed), even the side and roof details are excellent.
Beginning to like it... a lot now.
Negative opinions are just as valid as positive ones, and vice versa. We are all permitted to express opinions on sets in a thoughtful and reasonable manner.
@Cindipool, you are correct. The problem is when those comments become hateful, mean, and overly negative for the sake of being negative. We’ve done alright so far in avoiding that, but let’s all keep trying our best. It only takes one comment.
The designer was Tiago Catarino, not Jamie Berard. And Tiago just announced, that... he quit his job at Lego:
