Ideas set reveal imminent
Posted by Huw,LEGO has just posted a short teaser video on social media which suggests that the 28th Ideas set, 21320 Dinosaur Fossils, will be revealed in the next few days and available to buy soon afterwards, so I think we can anticipate it being released on November 1st.
It's hard to tell much from the image but we can see that it's white instead of tan, which was the colour proposed in Mukkinn's original Ideas submission, and it appears to be a T-rex, which is not one of the five fossilised remains in it, so already there appear to be some differences.
Anyway, all will be revealed soon...
We’ve got some ROAR-some, ancient news to share with you soon! ?? Stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/RNWzQ2twJ8

I’m excited for this one. It looks like it is more detailed than the original submission. That probably means only one skeleton.
It's really a bummer if the Tyrannosaurus replaced one of the original skeletons, or worse, is the only one to be released. It's the most overdone dinosaur in toy form, and given that it's more or less synonymous with dinosaurs among people who don't know anything about dinosaurs, it had to be a deliberate choice on the part of the designer to exclude it. I was really excited to see this one get greenlit, but I think I'll probably skip it now.
Look cool, if it's not too expensive I might get it
I'm just going to take a guess that the T-Rex is just for the promo, as it is too far removed from the original creation and so would most definitely not be what the punters supported.
Whatever will the final result be like, it's truly an innovative and thus exciting Idea set, which looks like none before. Very creative, original, new, right in the center of the Idea concept to me. So IMO definitely welcome in the world of Lego. Just hope that they preserved most of the original submission for these nice skeletons of rarely seen brick built dinosaurs, such as Triceratop for instance.
That's not a T. Rex — yet hoping that maybe this set will help teach/educate such things might be futile.
It might be the parent to the dinosaur skeleton included in the 2014 Research Institute, yeah?
Ok, this IDEA set is picking my interest and it either seems to include a Rex or just the Rex, goimg to be thinking about where I display the set.
@Huw Browsing through the updates section on Lego Ideas I think you can see he introduced the T-Rex at a later moment together with a lot of other lesser known dinosaurs.
Almost forgot about this Ideas set, and hoping it's as close to Minifigure scale as possible. I need an excuse to start building a museum for my city!
A bit confused, I thought that the piano/pirate/sesame street got picked, no ?
@Mica86: Care to link that article?
Though its a promo, I hope a T-Rex doesn't replace one of the original dinosaurs, as I was quite happy with the selection of dinosaurs chosen for the original submission. If Lego has gone with white as opposed to tan bricks it might stem from the fact that perhaps some of the pieces have never been released in tan before.
Still eager to pick up this set though
Looks good but... im hoping that its not gonna be like £69-79 :-/
I completely forgot about this one.
@elangab: This is from a much older review.
At last, we have some news of something I was very excited about when first announced. To be honest, I'll take any species really, so a T-rex being swapped in doesn't bother me. Just a T-rex on its own, though... That's a wasted opportunity.
So, the T-Rex is included in scope, folks....
From the Ideas website itself:
Introducing... THE T-REX !
On May 08, 2018
Oh...my...god, already 7600 supporters ! We are now comforting our top ten position of the most supported projects on Lego Ideas ! And I really think it's time for me to offer you all a thank you gift !
Lot of Lego addicts claimed it, many waited for it, and now it's here, the Lego T-Rex Skeleton !
Super excited about this! The project was originally submitted with five dinosaur skeletons, but then the updates expanded it to a total of eight. I am wondering which of them will be chosen for the final set (maybe all of them??).
I'm hoping the brachiosaurus and the stegosaurus make it to the final set.
[pedantry]
Perhaps they realised that one of the original skeletons wasn't actually a dinosaur and they had to replace it with a dinosaur or have to change the name of the set.
[/pedantry]
Anyway, I haven't been this excited since Saturn V. I think, "SO MUCH WANT" sums it up nicely.
last week I was at the grand old designers evening at the LEGO house in Billund and Niels Milan Pedersen announced that he worked on this and it's his first set in 12 years
They HAD to include T. rex, the most popular dinosaur of all! It's a wise design choice. Given the size, I'd be surprised to see more than 3 dinos. That would also keep the price in a good range.
If they release it before Christmas, I feel like it's going to be a real winner!!
@Spartan_Ghost: It's a skeleton (or, well, the fossil of one) so probably not.
Interested to see what the full set is like. There's already some neat techniques on display here like the use of those double-half arches for the nostrils. A skeleton can be a hard thing to get perfect due to all the unusual shapes and the very literally "barebones" structure. But this is looking pretty nice so far.
Also, one of the members on the forums mentioned that they learned that Niels Milan Pedersen was the designer, which is fantastic. If there's anyone at Lego with an expertise on dinosaurs and dinosaur fossils, it's him!
While I 'might' be nick picking here... But I'm trying not too, still I have to say this...
The choice of color needs to be tan and nothing else, due to besides being a skeleton (element 1), the color is the 2nd obvious part (element 2), of the whole design. It plays such an important role, that a white or a tan, makes a huge difference IMHO. White just feels too new and thus doesn't bring the historical element to it, which in this case doesn't fit because being historical should be the core of this design. I really like the concept, but the choice of color... somehow I can't put my vote on it and that's really a pity, but anyway it's an imagination at the moment, and looking forward to see the real stuff.
Hope they don't lose too many dinosaurs from the original entry. As for white vs tan, at least if they go with white you can leave the set in the sun for a few weeks and convert it to tan.
I hope they don't make just a t-rex. There have been so many of them.
Based on most museums I would say a really dark brown would make most sense.
When are they going to reveal the International Space Station. But ya, this looks very cool.
As Lyichir mentioned, there is some pretty cleverly parts usage, which leads me to believe that this will be part of the actual set.
Huh... if it wasn't for the 'ideas' tag I'd have thought this was something to do with Jurrassic Park give then t-rex's pose.
Looking forward to this
I agree with some other people who have said (in previous comments) that the T-Rex is one of the most overused toy dinosaurs, and I too was looking forward to the other 5 models in the set. Should be interesting either way, though. I also think that it should have been tan instead of white, but only time will tell (get it?).
"Introducing... THE T-REX ! - On May 08, 2018"
Officially from the Ideas site - he included the T-Rex on the 8th May 2018, so I am not sure why people keep repeating as though it were true that the T-Rex was never part of the original ideas set?
The thing that interests me, is that they all look like renders, not actual models or is that just the photography? If so, they will be really interesting to see as actual Lego sets.
What would truly be awesome is if this set functioned like a 2 in 1 or even a 3 in 1 Creator build where you could choose which model(s) you wanted to build out of the available parts. Suppose for example there were 8-10 builds in the instructions, however you could build 3-4 of those out of the available parts. Definitely wishful thinking on my part, but that is one way everyone could have their "favorite" dinos on display with the same set.
@audiobean:
White is a much more commonly used color in LEGO sets. Given how many different shapes this set is likely to use, they probably would have needed to order up way too many new elements to get it done in tan. This is the same reason the white Spaceman was skipped for the Exo-Suit, while green (TMNT Leo/Raph), blue (TLM Benny), and black (SW Vader) were all viable colors at the time.
@Montyh7:
In the past, it was possible to do a front-page update to your Ideas submission, which they eliminated because it allowed you to post something that got you most of the way to 10k, and then replace it with a completely different project at the last second. The downside to this change is that now most people are _ONLY_ familiar with the front-page images, and never see the updates, because sites like this generally only publish images from the original submission.
I wish they sold these in single packs as I only care about triceratops...
But still I want this set to make a skeleton dragon :)
Very much looking forward to this one! I don't mind the inclusion of the T-Rex, as long as it's not the full extent of the pack. Let some other dinos share the limelight! XD
It'll be interesting to see just how much Technic the final set uses. As amazing as they look, I wonder about the fragility of the skeletons, so maybe the teaser image seeming to be more system-focused could be a good thing?
Either way, I'm excited to have some dino skeletons to display soon...
@Lordofdragons - my thoughts exactly - Castle town beware... the necromancer is abroad again!
Really interested in seeing how different from the original submission this turns out to be. Is it possible that the T-Rex skeleton has been added alongside the original skeletons?
@PurpleDave That explains it... I wondered why everyone was saying there was no T-Rex in the original submission ! Thanks
