Inside Tour registration begins on Monday

Posted by ,

Registration for next year's Inside Tours begins on Monday 28th October at 9am GMT / 5am EST.

Four tours will take place in 2020, in May, June, August and September. They are expensive (~£1700 / ~US$2200) but, as every participant will tell you, worth every penny.

We've posted loads of articles over the years about them so take a look if you want to find out more.

A link to the registration form will be placed on this page on the LEGO House website on Monday, but note that places are no longer allocated on a first-come-first-served basis so there's no immediate hurry, you have all next week to put your name down.

"places are no longer on a first come first serve basis"

Do you know how they are assigned now? Is it a lottery? Do people need to write a heartfelt essay on why they're the most deserving AFOL? Goat sacrifices to Bixma'ar the Intractable?

By in United States,

Too bad I don't have $2200 lying around.

@Zackula

I was told on the 2016 tour that they want to have a good mix of different countries and ages. Good luck if you try!

@Zackula in addition to what @Uprobeck said about having a mix of countries--there were 11 represented on my Tour--the application form also asks about your favorite theme and your primary interest in Lego. I don't remember all of the options but they include being a collector, an assembler of individual kits, or if you build your own models.

The first Tour in 2018 had a lot of people who make MOCs, while the second Tour (mine) had many Creator Expert, Star Wars UCS, and Ideas fans. This helps the coordinators tailor some of the discussions and designers for the groups. We met Hans Burkhard Schlömer mere months after the release of 75192 , Creator Expert design lead Jamie Berard and senior designer Mike Psiaki, and Ideas design manager Sam Johnson and then-in-development Voltron designer Niek van Slagmaat. We also had presentations on Harry Potter (Justin Ramsden and Mark Stafford), BrickHeadz (Marcos Bessa), Friends, and Technic.

Although places are no longer first come first serve, I still recommend applying as soon as the window opens. Your application will be reviewed earlier than one that is submitted on the third day. I feel lucky it only took me four tries to get accepted, and a friend I made on the Tour applied for seven years before receiving the golden ticket.

By in United Kingdom,

Think I'd rather spend the money on buying more lego.

How many people on a tour?

By in Luxembourg,

@fuddruckus I can only second your comment (though obviously the tour I was on was different)

@hntrain 37 on the tour in June this year.

If you have the money it's definitely worth it if you want to look deep behind the scenes, meet AFOLs and the designers etc.
If you have the money and would rather spend it on sets, why not?

I was told that after attending this year it would be useless to apply again for a few years. So I'll just wait and look forward to going to the next one with what will be TFOLS by then.

By in Luxembourg,

@sintax not unless you sign up for and eventually pay for more than one person.
