Really great additions to a already visually interesting theme. Love that stunt plane!
New hair/headgear pieces for Jake and Parker, undead El Fuego, medium azure foliage pieces, red and Keetorange spectre pieces, black and dark red roller coaster track pieces, and a slight resurgence of medium lavender in a theme that isn't Friends or TLM2, oh my!
I'm just curious if the box art will be any different to this year's, given all the criticisms.
Interesting!
Is the spectre in Jack's Beach Buggy the first minifigure to have two unmodified heads?
By 'unmodified' I mean excluding Ninjago's Fangdam-type heads.
Did... did El Fuego literally *die* between waves?
@Zander
All I can see when I look at him is Zaphod Beeblebrox.
Also, yes, this is the first time such a thing has been accomplished.
Slightly annoying that the only set I'm likely to get is the only one that doesn't feature Jack's new hairpiece!
@CapnRex101 I think you may have mixed the portal and subway pictures?
I think the lighthouse looks interesting. Not sure how high it is but could look good next to the fishing store.
The lighthouse looks like it'd bee a good companion set for the Shrimp Boat. The portal and Subway station feel like thy should have been one set somehow to my mind.
Got a feeling though this might be the last wave we see of this given how the apps not been greatly recieved by most accounts, and the sets are on discount most places I've seen them.
Well of course there had to be a lighthouse. But some great new parts and re-colours here.
And I'm also hoping this paves the way for Zaphod.
@Tom_Lux - I also wondered about that when the press release arrived but the images are displayed with the correct sets. It seems that 70427-1 Portal and 70430-1 Newbury Subway Station both take place on the subway, although I am not sure where the portal is.
So the new sets have identical minifigs AGAIN?
The fair might be a good parts pack if reduced. Otherwise - no, thank you, there are better offerings to be had elsewhere.
Scooby doo lighthouse is better IMO... And the lighthouse is the only set I really like... In the first wavw, I liked almost all of them, so I am not very happy... New great minifigs , yes, but not great sets... If that is the way, they should make a CMF series out of it...
"Lighthouse of Darkness"
Well that's ironic.
@Tom_Lux and @CapnRex101: it seems that LEGO has them mixed up in its newsroom article, according to the numbers printed on the boxes, so I'll correct them in the database!
@Huw - Thanks!
Many of these sets are smaller than those from the first wave so they are not necessarily as striking, although I think they look excellent on the whole.
That lighthouse is an instant buy for me
I think they look great! There's a blend of so many themes in there, but they come together with a cohesive look.
I wonder if the Portal and Subway sets connect- you can see blue foliage and spring green accents on the back of the subway.
If so, I've really got to applaud Lego for going back down the modular route, I think it's a far better route to trigger the imagination than named characters.
I feel like the color wheel is just tacked on in most of these sets instead of integrated like in the first wave
Bit of a re-run of Scooby Doo and Batman sets, but interesting parts.
Is that dark red coaster track? First reaction is it bugs me to see another colour without all the possible pieces available in it. Clearly there's a low ramp and a curve piece there, but it does look like there's a short straight at the top. So at least there's enough there for, say, a monorail type transit system if you can get hold of multiples of the parts. And you could mix red and dark red for an even more haunted broken-down look to your coaster!
These look great, not for me but I could see some use for that Lighthouse eh, I'll make my own. I am glad LEGO is launching more 2020 pictures.
70427 Portal and 70430 Newbury Subway Station is the same picture.
Few interesting minifigures but rather boring sets.
Very excited for these!
@CapnRex101: These sets being smaller on average than the first wave makes sense if we are to assume that the theme will be getting a summer wave as well—themes that get two waves a year usually save the biggest sets for the second half of the year.
Disappointed with these new sets tbh. Nowhere near as inventive or unique as the first wave.
Jack’s Beach Buggy for example looks like a budget version of 60180, with a few Hidden-side minifigures thrown in.
The Lighthouse it the best set overall but nothing special.
Saw these on IG earlier I do like them... they should of made the fair a proper full ride and made a free fall ride like doctor dooms at universal, maybe waltzers too...
I had very high expertations to the subway station but this.....doesn't even look near anything like a subway station. Hope the summerwave will contain more complex builds/sets.
I agree with @thefirst - rather disappointing apart from colours/recolours and ghost parts
and I loved the school bus, shrimp boat & high school from this wave.
dannnnnnngggg
(wait is El Fuego dead?!!)
@Chilis_no : same thought here. I was so excited to hear of a "subway station", but when I saw the pictures I thought "What the hell?" This doesn't look anything like any subway station I have ever seen, even if I factor in the haunted aspect.
Compared to wave 1, I am not too impressed with these sets tbh.
I do like the colour scheme though, and dark red rollercoaster track pieces? Yeah baby yeah I say!
DarthRaved, https://brickset.com/parts/design-36934
The crooked waist and double head components are very strange.
Great to see so many location based sets.
That airplane is a BEAST! Allso Ghost Clowns. Fricking Ghost clowns
They're all, once again, instant must haves. I think my favorites are the portal and the lighthouse. There's no real 'showcase' set this time, like the school or the bus, but each one offers up something interesting. I really like that they've introduced new parts for the possessions! I love the inclusion of actual ghost figures (although, the exclusion of any sad ghosts bewilders me? They tend to be my favorites in the game). I freaking love both Parker and Jack's new head pieces, and Douglas' skull mask! A little more variation for them is most welcome!
Sets look much smaller and greatly simplified from 1st wave. Almost as if they were for a younger audience?
I could see myself buying all of these and at the same time I couldn't see myself buying any of these. There is a lot to like from every set but i don't think I will get them all. I think I will definitely be getting the stunt plane though! You can't beat that new ball cap/hair combo, ghost sludge pieces, or detailed stunt plane.
@Huw @CapnRex101
Cheers. There was also a mixup on a german site, or apparently not if it's LEGOs fault. Not knowing anything about Hidden Side I assumed the little cart was the subway cart and the prices seemed off as well since the subway set is larger.
Medium azure leaves!!!!!!!!!
I'm really hoping we start to see images for all the new 2020 sets over the next couple of weeks. I like to see images early so I can start planning ahead for which ones I want to save for.
As w/others I'm not as hyped about this wave as I was for the initial one. There just aren't many usable builds to add to my city, although 70432 Ghost Fair (non-spooky version) will fit right in to my amusement park. 70431 Lighthouse of Darkness (lol LEGO) may find a place near the city's coast line, close to Old Fishing Store (as others have also said would make a good fit). LEGO has released a million lighthouse sets and amazingly I don't own a single one, yet. Now does anyone else get strong Creator 3 in 1 vibes from 70428 Jack's Beach Buggy?
Not a big fan of this theme, but I love that Ghost Fair set. It provides me with some great prints and inspiration for my own amusement park MOCs. I'm also happy that they're bringing back the 'Brick, Round Corner 3 x 3 x 2 Dome Top' in dark green for the Lighthouse of Darkness (I love the irony of that set name). I'm parting out the Grand Emporium and need those.
None of these are as appealing as the first wave, excepting the beach buggy and portal, and plane. The others look a bit too overpriced for what they contain.
@LegoSolo77-- Yes, I do.
"Portal" makes it seem like they are going to introduce a Hidden Side version of the Upside Down (from Stranger Things, FYI). I, personally, really like the new hat and hair pieces, as they're great for cyberpunk builds.
Didn't even notice the drop ride used yet another colour of roller coaster track. And only the bottom half of a big drop (argh!). The idea of a human-ride version of the strongman test is quite funny though, particularly if it does split open that clown face if you make the minifig hit the top.
This is more negative than I usually am, but what does it say about the design of the Portal and Subway Station sets that you can't tell which is which just by looking at the pictures? Neither of the two builds looks like a portal, or any part of a subway station. This just dawned on me after seeing the comments discussing the same, and it's really bothering me now.
For me, the airplane is the most interesting but what's up with the gunner position on the right wing? That looks odd and unbalanced to me.
And does this mean there might be more 2020 sets for other themes announced/revealed in the near future?
I don't know. These sets just look messy compared to the first wave (besides the lighthouse and plane). Some of the designs have also gone from the lovable craziness of the first wave to just completely out there - is that a ghost with a jetpack?
I'm not the target audience, anyway. And it's nice to see that the main characters have a couple different outfits now.
None of the sets seem to feature "Soul Artifacts". I wonder if there won't be bosses in these new locations?
Portal and lighthouse are cool, the rest are meh.
Subway station is weird looking. I wouldn't guess that's what it is if it weren't for the set's name.
I was hoping it would be an add-in set for 2019 Ghost Train (like with the winter village train/station).
I am really looking forward to Jang's review of the Subway Station set because perhaps he can tell me/us what part of that set has anything to do with an actual subway station. I just can't find anything in it that reminds me of one. I mean I use a subway every day so I kind of know what to expect.
They're fine sets, but BOY JUST LOOK AT THAT LORE.
I love the subway as a setting already, and now we're getting a subway that's also a portal to the ghost realm?? Awesome!
El Fuego's probably dead now, Professor J.B.'s back, and Parker's new hairpiece makes me love her even more.
Sign me up for that Portal!
@AustinPowers: It's clearly the platform on the left. The car is coming through the central tunnel, with another service tunnel off to the right.
Definitely integrating that subway Station into my TMNT display
^What Subway station ??
End of the line for me, I'm afraid
Plane is probably the best of the lot. That buggy is awful though, looks like it was slapped together.
A majority of these look strangely sparse. It doesn’t help that no pictures of the sets pre-transformation have been supplied.
I want dates of release. The only one I'll probably buy is Jack's Beach Buggy as I think it's a great set and it's also the cheapest way to get the new Jack and Parker and the two headed ghost
Memes are strong with that Skeleton in the Lighthouse set!
Ugly uninspiring mess
Loving some of the new parts here like the new hinged welding mask, the new hair/headgear elements for Jack and Parker, and the new lightning accessory pack — all of which I imagine will have long-term usefulness even outside of this and other spooky/supernatural themes. I'm interested to see more pics going forward to get a better look at what the "non-haunted" versions of the clown, diver, fisherman, mechanic, track worker, and aviatrix characters (we can only see a small glimpse of them on the top of the box pics).
From a story standpoint, the descriptions on Brickset add character names, and it's WILD to me that Harry Cane is the in-app boss ghost character for one of the sets! The mysterious Lady E also makes her heavily foreshadowed debut as the boss ghost for the portal set.
As builds go, the buggy, biplane, and lighthouse all manage to stand out nicely from past takes on that sort of subject matter. The transformation functions for all the sets continue to be remarkably creative and varied. And I can't help but laugh at the trumpeting skeleton meme making an appearance in the lighthouse set! https://youtu.be/eVrYbKBrI7o DOOT DOOT!
@Rogue10: I mostly agree, although with the more unified design in these sets, it looks like they are making it represent a new ghost-hunting gadget invention from Professor J.B, rather than just a random in-app gameplay element with no significance to the set's display value or non-digital play experience.
@Chilis_no and @AustinPowers: I suspect that the subway station is pretty much abandoned, in accordance with the generally worn-down condition of the town of Newbury. This would also explain why the location of the portal is a mystery to most of Newbury's inhabitants.
That said, this pic also is a little less obvious as a subway station since it's the transformed version — the box art (which some other sites like https://www.brothers-brick.com/2019/11/14/first-look-at-6-new-lego-hidden-side-sets-for-2020-news/ have shared) shows that when the monster-y elements are "hidden", the monster face turns into the back of a subway car.
@LegoSonicBoy: The original meaning of "portal" literally meant gate/door, and even in fantasy contexts didn't outright imply any sort of magic swirly energy field. To me, it seems pretty apparent in both cases that the tunnel opening is the portal, with one end of the tunnel connecting to Newbury in the "living world" and the other to Newbury in the Hidden Side, almost like the small door in "Coraline", the magical wardrobe in "The Chronicles of Narnia", or the old tunnel in "Spirited Away".
How about the doot doot skeleton in the lighthouse? :P
I’m impressed. Most of these look like must-buys for me, even though I mostly want the minifigures.
That darkblue stuntplane is gorgeous and it will be mine.
It's a pity that's a set without the female leading role.
I like the not-upside down and plane sets.
What a dark place this Newbury is!
I love the stuntplane: colors are cool, El Fuego's skeleton is awesome and it seems to offer a good build. It's one of the coolest biplane since Pharaoh's Quest and City Air Show.
I'm also interested in the lighthouse: it will be a great addition to Newbury's seaside as i got the boat and the restaurant.
I wonder where the story is going with a portal, a living dead El Fuego?! I think we will get the answer via Youtube:

The Hidden Side theme is a very nice idea with transforming sets which can be easily placed in a regular LEGO city. Unfortunately, i have 2 smartphones which are not compatible with the AR App (Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy A7) :/
I don't like this theme... But the light-house looks is a very nice build. Might go for it...
That subway station reminds me of the scene from 'Beneath The Planet Of The Apes'.
Getting a kick outa the two-headed ghost, and liking the variety of recolors here!
A Lego theme doesn't exist until it has a lighthouse in it! What is up with that?
Okay, I could use the plane for so many things (minus the stickers). Great sets as always
Have to be honest ... I'm not hugely fond of this range.
With the first range, I looked at the Shrimp Boat or the Ghost Train, and thought, yep, must haves. But with these 6, none of them really grab me. I like a lot of the new pieces (blue foliage? Sweet), and it's nice to see Jack and Parker have different headgear (Jack's a brunette, cool). But no, I like the light-house, but the rest are a bit lacking for me.
These are great! Really like the Portal, Subway Station and Lighthouse sets; this theme is turning out to be a nice one for scenery and buildings...
@zander no, the mime collectible minifigure has three heads
At first I dind't like this theme, but IDK why now I'm in love with it. Specially the new smaller sets. They are so cool!
@Alltimefol: I'm pretty sure they meant two heads as in two heads on one body, rather than just alternate heads (which most of the possessed Hidden Side characters have, considering you can swap their ghostly heads with standard yellow faces).
Seems like my comment didn't actually post. Here's hoping this isn't a repeat!
Love that we're finally getting to see the Hidden Side itself. I love the color pallet, bet some of the old Elves sets would go great with it! Since there are no blue ghosts included I imagine we're getting more.
Love the two headed ghost piece. Not a fan of Parker's new hair. Feels to poofy!
Did El Fuego die!?! Spencer was one thing, but at least that was before the series started. Kinda dark.
Based on Captain Archibald's bio I was fully expecting a lighthouse set. Glad LEGO Didn't disappoint!
Cool sets!!!
I liked how the color wheels in the first wave was hidden. But now it's a weird electronic in the middle of nowhere.
Love the fact we’re getting a second wave from this line. With only one wave of Scooby sets and one wave of Monster Hunter sets, I feared this theme was doomed to follow in their footsteps.
All are must haves for me, though the subway set looks more like an underground sewer. Lighthouses are a favorite of mine anytime we can get them, and this will go great with the shrimp boat. The portal set kinda reminds me of the tree in Stranger Things that Nancy gets stuck inside, only different. Hoping the US price points are kind and then hey! 20% off on Amazon almost right away.
Sooooo much goodness dropping on or before January 1st. Wonder what the 2020 modular will be ??
I'm interested to see more of the lighthouse.
@Alltimefol,
@Lyichir is correct: I meant at the same time, not as alternatives.
Seems strange that LEGO has never produced a minifigure with two unmodified heads before. But then again, it’s only fairly recently that it started doing System big cats and has yet to do a System sheep. TLG moves in mysterious ways.
Besides the lighthouse and the airplane, the rest of the wave is disappointing compared to the first wave.
I didn't get the design of the subway station, the Portal looks uninspired, a cliche monster truck is there once again and the larger Ghost Fair set is just plain bad. I'll pass and wait for the third wave (if it is made).
I think whats throwing the subway for alot of people is the the middle bit is actually a subway train coming out of the tunnel thats opening into the 'possessed scenery'.
Tube station is a disappointment
El fuego is dead?
I admit, I'm kind of bummed about the beach buggy set since it seems like a smaller and more ugly version of El Fuego's stunt truck but other than that the rest of the wave looks alright. I love the portal set (possibly because it looks unique and kind of looks like the Upside Down set from Stranger Things even though I don't watch the show). The plane and lighthouse sets look pretty decent even though those concepts have been done a lot, I guess the colors and piece usage seems unique enough to me. The Subway Station doesn't really look like a subway station but I'm willing to give it a chance since I have seen other people point out details I may have missed. The Roller Coaster is a unique idea but I won't be buying the set because I only have a limited amount of space to display my lego sets and I'm quickly running out... However, I can't discredit that it's a unique idea and one of the more unique ones at that and I can see why many people (including myself) like the set
This wave looks disappointing to me. Maybe the novelty has worn off.
@Klinton77: I gathered as much, but it still doesn't look like much of a subway station to me. Apparently I am not alone.
@Zander:
It's the first _official_ minifig to have two unmodified heads mounted to its shoulders at the same time, yes. However, Brickwarriors made a two-headed ogre neck that worked similarly to this, and that has been out for years now. And there have been official minifigs that wielded unmodified heads as weapons, such as the original Green Goblin.
@Joefish:
The alternative, though, is that they color-lock the coaster track and you can never get any other colors. Since the coaster track system was introduced in the Joker Manor set where they had a movie to match, that becomes problematic. Anyways, one possibility
@PurpleDave: I don't think color locking the coaster track would be the only alternative to producing multiple new colors at a time. There'd certainly be the possibility for a middle ground, where the remaining track types for existing colors are filled out before a new color is introduced.
That said, the only coaster piece in this set that doesn't already come in every previous color is the 0 degree to 45 degree graded incline (which has yet to show up in Medium Azur). So unless the drop tower were changed to that color (which would be much brighter and might look incongruous with the dingier Hidden Side aesthetic), we wouldn't exactly be getting any necessary recolors for any of the past colors of track.
Plus, considering these are only a few of the upcoming 2020 sets, it's entirely possible that other types of the track might show up in these two new colors in a separate upcoming set (much like how we have all but one track type in Light Stone Grey even though no one set included all of the types we've gotten). Titanium Metallic in particular seems like a color that could show up in any number of other themes.
I've rather been enjoying this theme. Nice to see some original sets. I think the portal appeals to me the most from this wave.
The Lighthouse goes so well with the Boot from last wave, good stuff!
The biplane is a must-buy. I could care less about the whole theme, but this is one that definitely appeals to me.
Anybody else see the doot doot trumpet skeleton in the lighthouse set???
I love LOVE *LOVE* the backwards hat and hairpiece!!! I will buy at least one of the sets with that in it - I'm surprised it took Lego so long...
So... are these coming out on Dec 27 on USA?
