Big bake show = fabulous! Some great toy design on display here - Friends wins!
Quite a few really nice ones. I especially like the Ice Cream Cart, the Hospital and above all the Hair Salon. Pretty perfect also just for a normal City layout.
I like a few of them but I do prefer the original heartlake hospital with the earth blue & magenta accents from two years ago and the old hair salon with Natasha was prettier.. but the glamping and ice cream cart look Amazing lego:
Dear Lego, Can we please organise for whoever is in charge of the Friends range work on City for 2021? Cheers.
I don't mind the little ice-cream cart, but no, I'm not vibing many of these either. Gosh, 2020 is so far looking like a pretty lacklustre year. Out of everything that's been seen, so far, there's about two sets that I actually want (Kai's red mech jet, and the toy shop/town house Creator set).
^ no kidding--I know there's some sarcasm in there, but look at that Juice Truck. That's a junior/4+ build but still manages to look nice.
New cake icing pieces look like they could be used as melting material or chemical spills
The Friends have apparently acquired a Routemaster bus from somewhere. Right hand drive and all!
Finally, System gets cake frosting pieces that Duplo has enjoyed for years and years. I have doubts about the price of The Big Bake Show though — that low part count is rather deceptive, given the new molds, and how open the set is, plus three minidolls.
I appreciate the grandeur of the previous Heartlake Hospital, but I like that this new one will presumably be more affordable due to its smaller size. Lots of those large window pieces, though.
Outside the colour scheme (easily improved with one's spare bricks), I would insist that quite a few of those sets are worthy Lego City... unlike the recently announced new wave of the actual City theme...
I will be definitely getting Heartlake City Hair Salon.
In a way, it is sad to see that Heartlake is getting far more useful buildings compared to the regular City. For a long time now I have been looking and supplying my collection with Friends sets.
I am sure many of you also have Heartlake City Restaurant or even Emma's Art Studio...
Nice wave. The big bake show is especially great!
Still eagerly waiting for the reveal of the new modular! :]
Hair Salon is 235pce retail £18
Big Bake 361pce retail £35
Hospital 379pce retail £55
They are UK retail prices.
Mmm
I'm very impressed by this wave! The bake-off and the hair salon are instant must-haves for me :)
wow! I think that this upcoming hospital is more like a "small town" hospital, rather than the "big town" hospital from two years ago, so I'll like it.
Also, finally the frosting cake moulds! I'll see great use in upcoming and future City and Creator (both 3-in-1 and Expert) sets!
And yes, I've grown tired of all those police-themed sets from City, we just want something that resembles real-life shops... That's why I like more Friends than City.
I don;t like these colorshemes. WAY too many colors make it too busy for eyes.
Designs are great though. Cooking contest is a must!
Also you are missing new small sets.
As usual some great designs here. I should really buy more Friends. That bus though :) Could be part of the 'magical mystery tour', really wild this one
I already have the Hospitals I need in my City and my wallet is happy non of these sets are in my aisle, have the SW sets been officially revealed?
To me, the Friends theme is today's 1980s to mid 90s Town.
The bake show looks great, and the friendship bus looks like a lot of fun. The hospital is less than half the size of the last one, maybe it should be a clinic :-) Not sure about the hair salon, though I do like that Nina has purple hair.
For City sets I prefer a more realistic look, yet for Friends sets the more outlandish the better imo. They can always be modified to fit into a city layout if they are depictions of things that we never see in City - like buildings! In that outlandish vein 41395 Friendship Bus is great, we probably won't get it, but if my kiddo wants it it'll be a joy to own. The teeny-tiny pool (check), veggie garden w/apple tree sticking out the top (check - beware of crossing under bridges), and curly slide (yup, check) should be must have's for any proper RV. I can see getting 41394 Heartlake City Hospital as an expansion pack for my existing hospital. And last to add, to my/encourage-my-daughter-to-want-so-as-not-to-put-a-dent-in-my-own-LEGO-budget lol, Want List will be 41393 The Big Bake Show. There's so many (like over 100?) baking shows on TV now and we watch so many of them, it's right on the nose. Also, so many new food prints and pieces!!
Friends and the Systar System sure like their crazy buses.
Sheesh-these new Friends sets! Some of these were never locations in the show. And where are Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross?
Pretty good wave. That Friendship Bus is hilarious.
Good wave, I like the Ice cream cart and hospital, but I’m not a Friends person.
Friends is the new city. Just make a "Friendship Train" and we're set :)
^ I keep waiting for Heartlake City to finally get a railway, but it never happens.
The Ice Cream Cart set has a great part usage, the Plate 1X1 Round W/ Horizontal 3.2 Shaft in tan which has only came in 3 colours previously (Brown, Light Grey and Black)
@Zordboy: The closest we've gotten is the tiny elevated train in last year's resort set. It is certainly a shame—the majority of City trains are functional, but often simple to the point of feeling utilitarian. I feel like Friends would be the perfect theme to really focus some more on the amenities available to passengers, rather than offering such barebones interiors.
I'm waiting for Heartlake to finally get Police and Fire departments. Just to get some police and fire sets that are different from the City ones.
@paulvdb: A police-oriented set would honestly be a great addition to LEGO Friends. After all, in the rebooted series that began last year, Olivia's mom is an officer of the Heartlake mounted police. It could potentially even be tied in with something that I've been thinking would be fun for a while: a subtheme based around mystery-solving!
After all, girl detective stories are practically a genre unto themselves, and a persistently popular one among young girls: think Nancy Drew, Cam Jansen, Harriet the Spy, Goldie Vance, etc. 90s kids like me might even remember "The Adventures of Mary Kate and Ashley" videos and spin-off chapter books, which I enjoyed a lot during my early years as a KFOL!
Fire sets aren't hard to imagine either, considering how many smaller City fire sets have involved the same sort of "pet rescue" scenarios as many Friends sets and subthemes! It's possible that a Heartlake fire department might even be able to break free of the more stereotypical color schemes that City fire sets are often saddled with due to the very particular expectations of young boys (young German boys in particular).
The girls who enjoy LEGO Friends seem to be much more willing to accept unconventional color palettes, so perhaps we might see fire engines in other colors besides the stereotypical sea of bright red seen in LEGO City. After all, a quick Google search for "fire engine colors" results in pictures of real-life fire engines in a whole RAINBOW of colors, including some that could be easily represented by the sorts of vivid colors common in LEGO Friends sets. @Aanchir I see your point, but I'm afraid that it would become City 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Also, nice to see a cooking show based set! It's something that -SURPRISINGLY- has never made its way into a Lego set. Probably also the boost that the Food Stands Ideas set gave (even if that project didn't pass the review stage - it's a shame, it would have sold really well) has helped a lot.
@Aanchir: Ah, I'd heard of Adventures but was too young to have seen that; instead I watched and remember Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action from the 00s! That one was action-adventure and not really mystery though.
