This looks so wacky it’s almost unbelievable.

I actually love it

Gravatar
By in United States,

okay that's so ridiculous i must get it

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Lovely T rex, and we can see new projectile! This will be WAY easier to intergrate in builds than previous huge technic shooter!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The build seems similar to last year's Dino Mech from Jurassic World, a set that really impressed me but I still haven't gotten. However, this one comes with John Mulaney, oh, uh, I mean Spider-Ham, so that's got some extra draw!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

T Rex is nice but those stickered headlights on yet another Spider-Vehicle are just bad.

Spider-Man got like 10 vehicles for 2019+2020 it's crazy.

That new rubber-tipped missile launcher piece being a brick is nice for future themes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What's with all the Venom vs. Spider-Man sets this year? I like this one quite a bit though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that a spider pig? What the he**!? I admit I am not a comic enthusiast, so maybe this is something from a comic series? Somebody please enlighten the rest of us on this bizarre character.

Yes from the comics, and also a supporting character in the 2018 "Into the Spider-Verse" film.

Spider-Ham is a god don't disrespect Spider-Ham

By in United States,

@xboxtravis7992 Honestly, based on Spider Gwen making her LEGO debut in the Venom Mech set and Spider Noir in the Spider-Jet I wouldn't be surprised if LEGO is trying to trickle out the Spider-Verse cast one-by-one in Venom sets, and I'm all here for it!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Yeah, that's a buy

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

That may be a but from me and I am not a Spider Man fan but that Venom Saurus looks great!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gotta be one of the most bizarre sets LEGO has ever made.

It's so ridiculously stupid! I like it because of that.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huh, that's really weird in a kind of funny way. Glad to see an official Spider-Ham. Just need Peni to complete the Spiderverse gang

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does...

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^Not the first mistake Lego did for a set, this was also for the Ant-Man set for NYTF 5 years ago.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If the set is going to go for silly, then Spider-Man's vehicle needs to go there, too. It's not silly enough!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not that it’s important but that box art looks final to me I’m not sure why they put a preliminary model watermark over it

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just want spider-ham

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

okay but seriously this is like so much wacky it goes right the way around to being awesome. it's like crossing a finish line after taking a detour round the entire world. I kind of want this and will not apologise for that

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Whats happened with Marvel, every set released in the last few years suck, this set looks dreadful not brought a Marvel set since the last wave of Mighty Micros and don't plan too rn looking at this rubbish.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those of you who don't know, Spider-Ham is a version of Spider-Man from a parallel universe populated with cartoon anthropomorphic animals. The back story is that Peter Porker was born a spider (simply named Peter) who lived in the basement of the somewhat crazy scientist May Porker. After a radioactive invention goes wrong, May becomes affected and bites Peter, turning him into a pig with the abilities of a spider. May recovers from the incident and takes in Peter as Peter Porker, aka SPIDER-HAM. He appears in the Edge of Spider-Verse comic book miniseries, a few of his own standalone comics, and the 2018 movie Into the Spider-Verse (which is really good, by the way).

Aside from the quick bio, I really like this set (even though this makes the third Venom set in like a year and a half). Appropriately absurd enough to be a popular set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Venom dinosaur and Spider-Buggy appear in Old Man Logan, albeit with a different cast of characters.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It’s insanity!!!

And...probably a day one purchase for me. Unless it’s over 70.00. Then it’s a day TBD. But I gotta get it for Hammy alone and because I love applying white stickers!!

Make Mine....LEGO!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Bit fed up of seeing Venom in most of the latest spiderman sets now and carnage!

Really want to see other villains made into lego for example; kingpin, Morbius, Grey Gargoyle, Dark hawk, Allister smythe, madame web, black cat updated Doctor Doom and Namor...

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I don't understand what I see.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Venomosaurus looks amazing on the back of the box, but I'm in love with the captured Spider-Ham hanging upside. Please be reasonably priced.

Edit: I just noticed the hidden skeleton inside the Venomosaurus. What?

Was looking for this, I feel like nobody here knows this, but the Venom T-Rex has actually appeared in a (very good mind you) comic.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

And so, the grand tradition of putting Spider-Man in vehicles he doesn't need continues in 2020.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It CAN get weirder. I just washed my hands that’s why they’re wet... that’s the only reason. Spider-ham may be the best side character in Into the Spider-verse. Nicholas Cage was amazing too. I’m going to be broke after I buy the spider-jet, and this one. OOF LEGO stop making me broke.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

So that's not for me. That's okay. Spider-Ham... o.O

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Just ridiculous. We have yet another Venom (third or fourth this year in fact), but Spider-Ham and the Dino build are both nice.

It’s just a shame Lego keeps giving us Venom and not some other classic Spidey Villains. In particular, we haven’t seen Lizard, Black Cat, Kingpin or Olivia Octavius yet. Just to name a few. Come on Lego, enough with Venom already.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can tell the price on this one is going to be over $80 but God help me I need that Spider-Ham. The venom dino is great too.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Would have been a good opportunity to do a lizard minifig with a lizard mech instead...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Kickass

Gravatar
By in United States,

What the ...

I'm sure if the brilliant or totally off the rails. Frankly we need more buildings and walls for Spider-Man to crawler on and fewer nonsense spider-vehicles. Save that junk for Batman.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

They really are over-doing the Venom sets, at the moment. It feels like every single Spider-Man set coming out, these couple of years, has Venom as the villain.

Having said that, this set is so stupidly awesome that I can't help but love it.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Yay for cool dino, boo for lame vehicle!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Since we’re getting Spider-Ham, how long until DeerDevil? Sure, he’s only ever appeared once, but I’m pushing for more! :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

T-Rex, yes! Iron Spider, yes!
That pig Spider-Man and the inevitable price tag... probably not.
I’d love to have a sizable T-Rex at a good price.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

So many Venom sets now.

Can't believe LEGO hasn't done an actual Lizard villain yet, with an underground lab in the sewers.

But hey, that wouldn't fit a Spider-Vehicle, or would it need a Spider-Submarine to traverse the Sewers -_-.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Marvel fans will recognize this sets backdrop to be the Savage Lands from the comics and that’s really cool

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just want the Venomosaurus...

Honestly I’m in the same boat, like I want it for ham but it’s awesomely hilarious to stand out on its own. I just never said it because everyone else already has. I’m scared of the price too

Make Mine....LEGO!"

Gravatar
By in United States,

wow, that confidentiality watermark. I hope nobody from TLG will get fired because of that.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is a very cool set. As a child I would kill to have one. This is pure Lego spirit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Kind of wish they’d at least mix things up with all the Venom sets. I get Marvel’s on a Venom kick, but could we get some other symbiotes? Or more guys like Iron Venom?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nah. Not interested. I know kids will love it though! However...

Yet again, LEGO insists on giving Spider-Man a vehicle. Beyond frustrating.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really want spider-ham..

Gravatar
By in Australia,

So this must be the seventh or eighth Venom when we haven’t received figures of Kingpin, The Lizard or Black Cat?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I see these kinds of sets and keep thinking about my memories of watching Spiderman movies (doesn't matter which one actually). Now when did I see any of these vehicles or "creatures/mechs" I wonder? I must be getting old for having forgotten all about them. Or were they a thing in the Spiderman comics?

Honestly, why not invent a generic Superhero for these kinds of over-the-top sets and leave poor Spidey alone. It's bad enough what they did to Batman already.

The set was on display at an event where photography was permitted so we can therefore show the picture without any issue.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@AustinPowers - he had a spider buggy in the 70s, and there are far odder things than that. The Spider buggy was cute though. It went bonkers and tried to kill him courtesy of the tinkerer.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh man, I definitely need this. This is so unbelievably ridiculous and I want it now XD

At last! A build of the Klyntar symbiote t-rex we saw in one panel in one issue of Guardians of the Galaxy!

Gravatar
By in Finland,

This is so silly that I'm in love with it

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Man that car is pretty redundant. The Dino itself and all the figures is more than enough to make this a fun set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

To those who claim that Spidey has no need of a vehicle, can I point out that that is not strictly true? Spidey’s main form of travel over distances is by swinging between tall buildings. But not everywhere he goes has structures like that. Sure, in low-rise areas he could run and would be able to do so much faster than ordinary criminals. But that would get tiring even for him. So while Tony Stark or SHIELD is willing to supply him with vehicles, it makes sense for him to use them.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I love the background of the boxart too, it's so pretty

Gravatar
By in Canada,

It's wild to me every time I learn that stuff that seems totally random and out-of-the-blue like the Venomosaurus is a reference to a specific comic! I knew about Spider-Ham, at least. For those who are particularly perplexed, Spider-Ham is from sort of a Looney Tunes style comedy/parody comic, which sometimes crosses over with "regular" Marvel universe storylines for funsies.

But all in all, these type of wacky sets are a big part of why I feel like a lot of complaints about licensed themes stifling imagination are overstated. A lot of people seem to assume that kids who play with licensed sets (or with sets from any story-driven themes)are only interested in recreating stories that have already been told to them in books, TV, movies, etc. But I suspect a lot of kids would have fun with this regardless of if they recognize the particular context it was inspired by (or even if it didn't HAVE any equivalent in existing superhero media).

For the most part, kids aren't lacking for creativity, and I suspect many could come up with any number of wacky scenarios explaining why Venom is riding a dinosaur, what his evil plan of the day is, and how (and even whether) the heroes are going to defeat him!

And as far as creative building goes, this sort of set could be a jumping-off point for kids to create wacky superhero vehicles (flying saucer? drill tank? submarine?) or supervillain steeds (giant squid? elephant? dragon?) they'd have never considered the possibility of otherwise! It's not like that type of creativity is any more derivative than using pieces of a blue and yellow spaceship to build a different type of blue and yellow spaceship, or using pieces from a big grey castle to build a differently shaped big grey castle!

Anyway, as for the set itself: love how curvy and spooky-looking the Venomosaurus is! Spider-Man's buggy is also delightfully robust, with some really nifty curved contours. In general a lot of the vehicles in non-movie-based Super Heroes sets give me a lot of nostalgia for the intensely playable, detailed, and cleverly constructed vehicles of LEGO Agents, even if the colors of this one aren't as reminiscent of that theme as the recent Avengers sets.

It's interesting to see a new rubber-tipped dart shooter, replacing the clunky old Technic ones. As much as I loved those as a kid for their sheer "oomph" (great for knocking stuff over or activating a hidden function on a nearby build), they were often kinda unintuitive to incorporate into a System build.

That's part of why I was so impressed when the more compact stud shooters and 1x4 arrow and disk shooters were introduced — they allowed a similar type of function without needing to hollow out a bunch of space inside a model to make room for it.

This shooter isn't quite as compact as those, but it is still an improvement on the old dart shooters which were more than twice as tall when you count the trigger mechanism. In fact, the shape reminds me a lot of the light and sound bricks that made their debut in 2007 — just a little more elongated! Interested to see this shooting function in action!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I might actually buy a Marvel set for once because how wacky this is

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I've heard rumours though that the set releases in June for $80. Quite a few publications confuse the set with the Venom crawler set though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is an absolute must-buy for me.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I don't know if I love or hate this! Love the venom-saurus, LOVE spider-ham, hate the spidey-quad. Just like all the other spider cars/bikes etc. I think the only Spidey vehicle I didn't hate was the spider-crawler, and although that build is pretty sweet I don't see the necessity! Ah well.

Seriously, love Spider-Ham. And I love the Harry Dresden reference, AND the news that there's a new book out this year! Woot!! I hope the audio book is narrated by James Marsters too!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

"...Spider-Ham comes with a hotdog...". Wait, he's a cannibal?...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I absolutely love this set definitely a day one buy for me and the entire build makes sense with spider ham
it also helps that one of my main focus themes now is Jurassic world so now I have an excuse for a insane crossover

Gravatar
By in Canada,

There seems to be a big merchandising push on Venom this year, not just for Lego. I've never been a fan of Venom; I liked his first two appearances and then he became a little boring for me. But that Venom-saurus is just so nuts I have to have it... and it looks like it could be the beginning of a great Old Man Logan setup as well!
