Win a LEGO.com gift voucher!

Posted by ,

Last week we reached 50,000 followers on Instagram, making us one of the most followed LEGO-related pages on the platform.

To celebrate we are giving away a £/$/€ 50 gift voucher to spend at LEGO.com plus some exclusive printed 1x8 Brickset bricks to runners-up.

To be in with a chance of winning, follow us, like this Instagram post, which contains full details of the competition, and tag a friend in the comments (on Instagram, not here).

Good luck!

Congrats on the social media presence, Huw, but I don't do FaceGramTwitFriendsReunited.

And yet somehow I don't feel like I'm missing out...

;o)

For a sec I thought it was a 50K voucher due to the header image. That'd sort me out for, well, at least a year.

I get your idea of more exposure, and I appreciate this give away, but I rather you won't take part in the "spam a friend" social craze that's going on in recent years. A simple "Like" would be better. When I want to let someone know about your site I just tell and share them with words.

Honestly, did any of you ever signed up to a site because a friend just tagged you in a 3rd party Instagram photo comment ?

By in Poland,

Isnt force tagging or liking a post prohibited as part of contest rules on insta?
Just aaking because I know its prohibited on youtube.

By in Germany,

Reading this I know why I am not on any of these social media. I come to Brickset without having ever read a single post on Instagram or whatever. Like others I advertise Brickset in person with my friends, colleagues etc.

Sames. I’m anti-social (media).

This isn’t very friendly to those of us who are TFOLs or younger. I guess most older TFOLs would have it, but not me. Only got Messages!

Good luck to the rest of you!

I agree, I don’t hate social media, but I just don’t have it or want it.

I’d love to have a 1x8 Brickset brick but I don’t have any kind of social media.
I don’t think that’s very fair to everyone who looks at Brickset daily but can’t enter because of Instagram.
Could you do one of these on your website?
If so thanks,

By in United States,

I entered, but my only LEGO friend I have on IG is Brickset. Does that disqualify me.

*Sees the comments from people saying they don't have instagran*

Me to me: The fewer the entries the greater my chances.

By in Australia,

Bold of you to assume I a) use Instagram (gross...), b) have friends, or c)have friends that use Instagram

By in Germany,

Just to add another two cents: over the past year or so, most of my friends, colleagues and others I know who actually did have accounts on Instagram, Facebook etc. have deleted their accounts in light of all the data security scandals that have come to light.
No kind of prize could get me to ever sign up for any of these "social" media (which I rather tend to call "asocial" media anyway because of all the harm they can cause via personal mobbing, distribution of hate messages, "alternative" facts etc.) .

Congratulations on the 50K, and entered!

Calm down, peoples. Re-lax.
I don’t use Instagram or have any social media accounts either, but we don’t need to whine and complain about it. Huw has every right to promote & run contests on this site and through other channels however he pleases. You’re not entitled to anything. If you want a chance to win, use Instagram. If you don’t want to use Instagram, then move on. You can’t bemoan your chances in a lottery when you won’t buy a ticket.

By in United States,

How dare you have a contest without clearing the parameters with everyone! The nerve.

I’m with @AgentKallus , the less, the better.

Okay, maybe one entry per would’ve been good....it’s getting real spam-y.

Congratulations, that's a huge achievement! Hope it brings plenty more traffic to the site :)

Quote: "making us [bricksetofficial] one of the most followed LEGO-related pages on the platform". Which profile is in fact the most followed LEGO-related page on Instagram? My own LEGO-profile has ~27k followers so it's only half as popular as you guys :D

By in Norway,

CarolinaOnMyMind - Generally speaking, I'm getting seriously ticked off by this (IMO downright misanthropic) "you're not entitled to anything unless you've put actual money on the table (and sometimes not even then)" attitude. I've seen this in a lot of fan and hobby forums (especially videogame ones) the latter years, where it often goes hand in hand with brushing off all kinds of (legitimate or not) criticism as "whining" - I've got an impression that this has became especially prominent after the backlash to the ending of Mass Effect 3.

This particular contest doesn't bother me that much, but it comes just a few days after the "Still life" and "Win an ISS + display case" ones which also required Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. As many others here I stay far away from "social media" for several reasons, like the data leaks already mentioned, how you're expected to use your real name/identity (which makes you far more vulnerable to surveillance, doxxing, complaints to employers and similar serious bullying) and how the "post only to friends/followers" option lures you into a false sense of privacy when it takes only one of these to spread your posting further.

To take your lottery example, it's not so much about being unwilling to buy a ticket as the store refusing to sell one to you, unless you also signs up for their "Get 1% discount in exchange for all your personal information" loyalty card.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm with CarolinaOnMyMind on this one. I'm anti social media and I have to accept that it means anything that uses it is closed off to me. That's my choice. Would I have liked to entered these last two competitions? of course, who wouldn't :-)

1. Does Brickset and all those involved owe us the users anything? I easily argue no, in fact we owe them all a huge amount of gratitude for keeping this valuable resource going.
2. Is Brickset obliged to provide competitions at all? Again I would argue no. We should never forget it's a cherry on top of a fantastic service. The primary reason any of us are here isn't the occasional competition, it's for the amazing resource that is Brickset.
3. The news portion of this post was about Instagram, why is it so unreasonable that the competition also focuses on it?

I don't know why but it seems like there's more negativity kicking around these days. People unhappy that LEGO did x or y, people unhappy that Huw sets up a competition with no financial requirement to participate. Can we try and remember we're all here because of our love and passion for LEGO and the many qualities LEGO is meant to inspire.

By in Germany,

"Enter as many times as you like" Does this mean one may submit the same comment tagging the same friend a thousand times for a thousand chances to win? Hopefully not, but I can't find anything contradicting this either.

^ no.

By in United States,

Thanks Huw that’s a lot better than just one contest on instagram.

By in United States,

Sigh. Yet another contest I'm prohibited from entering because it requires some social media nonsense. Good luck to everyone else.
