Pirates of Barracuda Bay available now!

Posted by ,

21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay may well be the most anticipated Ideas set yet if the overwhelmingly positive comments to the press release are anything to go by.

It's now available at LEGO.com which, for the time being, is the only place you'll be able to buy it.

Furthermore, the Easter promotions are still running so you'll also receive 40371 Easter Egg and, in North America, 30550 Easter Bunny, with you order. (Update: the egg looks to be out of stock in Europe, unfortunately.)

Please place your order for this exquisite set using this link to LEGO.com. Thank you!

Oh, and in case you're wondering, our review is still in progress. CapnRex101 has been unwell for the past week or so, but he's on the mend now, so we should have it ready soon.

In any case, I think it's a day one purchase for many people: you don't need us to tell you how good it is!

In case you missed it, the press release is after the break.

21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, 2,545 pieces
US $199.99 / CA $259.99 / DE €199.99 / UK £179.99 / FR €199.99 / DK 1599DKK / $299.99 AUD

Available from 1st April exclusively from LEGO.com.

ARGHHH ME HEARTIES! EXPLORE AN EPIC SHIPWRECK WITH THE NEW LEGO IDEAS PIRATES OF BARRACUDA BAY

The LEGO Group has announced the latest LEGO Ideas set, bringing back memories of the beloved LEGO Pirates theme.

[24th March 2020] Become a pirate with this brand-new LEGO Ideas set, inspired by the 1989 Black Seas Barracuda pirate ship model. Adventurers can now explore the island and the wreckage of Captain Redbeard’s famous ship, which was lost at sea over 30 years ago.

The new LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set has been created based on a submission to the LEGO Ideas platform by fan designer Pablo Sánchez Jiménez, who has a passion for all things pirate and was inspired after building LEGO brick models with his dad when he was young. The concept behind the LEGO IDEAS Pirates of Barracuda Bay set reached the 10,000-supporter milestone in just 25 days - making it one of the quickest sets to hit the target.

With 2,545-pieces in total, the model contains everything a pirate or LEGO fan needs to create the ultimate shipwreck – including a captain’s quarters, food store and supply dock. LEGO builders can even uncover buried treasure on the island by removing parts of the ship to explore new areas and create new stories.

This set also contains 8 Minifigures all based on pirate characters from the classic pirate lines, including the iconic Captain Redbeard, Lady Anchor, Robin Loot and the twins, Port and Starboard, as well as 3 other pirates and 2 skeleton figures and various animals to discover on the island.

When builders tire of being stranded at sea, the island can also be reassembled to create Captain Redbeard’s legendary ship, the Black Seas Barracuda. Rebuild the ship to launch a rescue mission to take the ship’s crew back to safety and find the buried treasure.

The LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set measures over 23” (59cm) high, 25” (64cm) wide and 12” (32cm) deep and is sure to catch the eye whether proudly displayed or placed amongst other LEGO Pirate sets.

You will find more images on the set details page.

Please place your order using this link to LEGO.com. Thank you.

Too bad I don't have the money or space for this (or any set) right now...

Feel better, @CapnRex101 !

By in United States,

Will have to order this tomorrow! My birthday was on the 29th and was somewhat subdued thanks to the current pandemic, so this will make for a nice belated gift.

Wishing @CapnRex101 a swift recovery!

No easter egg GWP available. It's not adding it to my basket. Maybe they've run out?? I've clicked through from this page anyway. If the Easter Egg does come back in stock, i'll contact them and ask for one!

The egg didn't add to my basket either but thankfully showed on the order email :-)

The same happened to me, when I ordered. Can't wait for it to arrive! :-)

By in United States,

If this is too expensive for you, I made a micro version a couple days ago. It has many features of the original set: the ship sections even combine to make the boat! The cost to build from scratch would be about $50, but most of the parts are common enough that any FOL should have them, so the actual cost should be about $20-$25. I will be putting the instructions up for sale on Rebrickable on Friday, so stay tuned! You can find some preview pics in the forum under "Leaks and more Leaks".

Finally I'll be able to buy pirates sets from the shelf.. I was too young back when it was a theme, because I had no money. Definitely looking forward to eventually buy this

I forgot that Brickset does those, lol. I wonder what they have in mind this year?

I don't think anyone is in the mood for an April Fool's joke at this time, anywhere.

Get well soon @CapnRex01
I can’t wait to save up to get this set, it really does look fantastic. The Ideas sets just keep getting better and better, I’m really glad I got back into Lego when I did!

This isn't really the place for this discussion though, lol. Nice to see you!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I didn't get the Easter egg on my order email. And, doh, I've ordered the pirate set twice by mistake. I'm such an April Fool. Hopefully the email I've sent to Lego will correct everything.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely a Day One purchase. I don't know if this will move as quickly as some previous Ideas sets (Central Perk comes to mind)... but if it does, I hope LEGO has adequately prepared!

Also, in anticipation of this set, I recently dug out my FIRST EVER LEGO set, 6276 Eldorado Fortress. Quite a mega set for a wee child of 5 years old but one my all-time favorites. Good times.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks like a great set, but not for me.

I hope Classic Space gets some attention this year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's up now to order for North America.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Love this set, but I might not get it for a while like most Lego D2Cs. I’ll probably put this and the Razor Crest on my Christmas list.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Up in North America and the promos auto add to cart.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

April fools. Actually, it’s the medieval blacksmith that is available today, not the pirate ship!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

This is a good example of how extremely cheap Lego has become compared to the good old days.

This 2.545 pieces set costs LESS (200 USD vs 229 USD inflation-corrected from 1989) than the original 909 pieces 6285 Black Seas Barracuda set.

What a STEAL Lego has become.

The only upside of the old set is the much more elaborate box.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Ordered, hopefully it will arrive before Easter :) But I didn’t get the GWP, nor it was in the confirmation email. Did anyone in Europe actually get the Easter Egg GWP?

Gravatar

Ordered mine last night at 23.05 (uk) Easter egg appeared on invoice later.

I hate to say this, Brickmasterboy, but noöne is buying any Pirates sets from any shelves anytime soon...

Lucky for us we have LEGO to keep us sane indoors!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Ordered mine at 12.05 a.m. (via the affiliate link), yet no GWP in the confirmation e-mail, unlike what was reported by some AFOLs who ordered at the same time… :'(

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

I will order it as soon as the next GWP will be available (Easter GWP out of stock here).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ordered, waiting for status to switch from 'in process' to 'in warehouse.'

No easter egg notice on email confirmation, but I seem to be missing out on all the offers this year.

Hope you get well soon, Capt Rex I eagerly await the review on this.

9.50: In warehouse, finally.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

The 40371 Easter Egg is not available in Switzerland

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m all in. They say to vote with your wallet. The best way to show Lego that classic themes can be profitable is to purchase them on day one. Order placed.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Ordered in the morning. No easter egg was available (Poland).

Gravatar
By in Germany,

No GWP here either. As I have no more room for large sets currently anyway I am not really unhappy about this though. Will probably get this set sometime near the end of the year.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My first ever day one purchase! I’m usually happy to wait months or even years for the big sets, and this one has jumped the queue over a number of others (the Tree House had been first in line up to now). I think the nostalgia hit (and the fact that I never had anything bigger than a rowing boat the first time around) was just too much!

+1 to MaxA - I agree it helps to send a message to Lego re the viability of classic-inspired themes!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The only remaining question is whether to build the intact ship or the wreck first!

By in United States,

@Bricklestick said:
"The only remaining question is whether to build the intact ship or the wreck first!"

I hadn't even thought of this until you just said it.... with all this free time I'm probably going to do both in the same day and flip a coin for which one gets top billing.

And yes, I ordered it about 10 minutes after it went on sale in North America.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was my first day one purchase! I am more than glad to give LEGO money for classic sets!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Would have bought this if the Easter Egg promo was still available. Since it’s not, no go for me. I’ll wait for another opportunity with a freebie item or other promotion.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Trying to buy this set but as usual, calling TLG is extremely difficult next to impossible. After 10 minutes on being hold I gave up. Really wonder when TLG will make more resources available. They know all LEGO stores are closed. Why not transfer shop employees to the call centre?
Yes, I could order via LEGO.com but then I can't redeem my 10,000 VIP points.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This was also my first first day purchase (no sign of GWP but not looking for that), it just rekindles so much nostalgia. I had the original pirates (ships and fortress) thirty years ago, during a period which I now recognise as coming out of my first dark age in my early twenties. I then went back into it until my mid-forties but Brickset and sets like these have helped me make up for lost time [if not at a cost :-)]. As of 4:10PM UK time Barracuda Bay is now on back order to the 6th of April so there's clearly been a run on it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh my god I - sorry, my boy - is going to freakin' love this.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Bought 1, wish I could have 3! 1 to build as the shipwreck, 1 to build as the ship and 1 to hoard in a sealed box...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I knew this would sell out quickly! I apologise to anyone who wanted one, because I accidentally bought two. I expect they’ll both get shipped before TLG read my email asking to cancel one order.

Does anyone else think the Lego website is not up to scratch? Can they not take a look at Amazon and copy whatever they do? On Amazon, you buy something, you get an email instantly and the order is in your account history. Why does Lego take an hour? This is why I ended up buying two. All the money TLG make, surely they can sort this out...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Will get this set for sure at some point later.

Gravatar
By in Luxembourg,

I ordered a few minutes before midnight and my confirmation email lists the Easter egg GWP.
The Luxembourgish shop also has the bay on backorder until April 6th.

Welp, count me as another one that MaxA convinced. I was going to wait until I could get this from my big box discount retailer, but what the heck. I love this.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I just placed my (back)order this evening but 7th April shipping doesn’t seem too bad as it’s only a week away! I DIDN’T order 2 copies because 1 should be all you need - it’s Lego after all and the swap between models seems simple enough. Plus, if you’re a Star Wars fan I expect there’ll still be a May UCS or large model available online and that’s just around the corner. Seen no leaks yet so exciting to see what it could be if the release still goes ahead like the pirates!

@MaxA
100% agree I got mine as soon as it went live. This is the most excited for a Lego set I’ve been in a while! I think Lego should throw classic fans a bone once a year and this year they did not disappoint! Submit more classic themed Mocs on ideas I think this could be the start of something good especially with the medieval blacksmith getting the nod as well.

By in United States,

@iriz :
I've been saying this for nearly 20 years at this point. Back in the early 00's, I ran the numbers on every minifig-based theme excluding expensive electronic sets and other outliers like those minifig 3-packs that were out at the time, and SW actually beat World City for price/piece ratio by about two cents. The overall ratio has stayed pretty consistently around $0.10/pc for over four decades at this point. How do they do it? A lot of it has to do with how terribly inefficient the company was back then. A ton of the work has been automated, such as having entire warehouses that use robotic cranes to pull up totes of parts on demand. Some of it has been the result of shifting operations to areas where labor costs are lower. China was something they tried a while back, with mixed results (turns out the labor savings were pretty much wiped out by the increased cost of transportation between Asia and their primary world market, which is Western Europe*). China did, however, work out pretty well for them with the CMF line, which was exclusively made in China up until they changed the packet design (with the transition being Harry Potter/Unikitty/The LEGO Movie 2). In terms of actual cost savings, though, it was the move to Eastern European countries like Hungary and the Czech Republic that did the trick. Labor isn't as low as it is in China, but it's a straight shot by truck instead of sending a ship around Africa.

@meesajarjar72:
I suspect the reason why it shows up later is due to how their order processing works. As you place your order, it queues up in their system but isn't actually going to be ready to pick. Someone at the fulfillment center drops available orders in waves, which is when someone can actually go pick the order. At some point after they dropped the wave of orders that included yours up to the point when they close out that wave is when the order probably shows up in your account. I don't know exactly which step triggers the change in status, but I've gotten shipment notices at odd times of the day so I'm pretty sure they run those operations 24-7. And there's the other tricky bit. Customer Service has listed hours of operation, which are less than what the warehouses work. The warehouse isn't going to check any e-mails to see if an order should be cancelled before it's picked, packed, and stacked on a pallet out outgoing parcels, so if you can't get someone on the phone _right_away_, the only hope you have of being able to cancel a redundant order is to find out you're backordered.

* The US took the top spot from Germany back in 1999 in terms of how much total product any single nation consumes, but Europe as a whole still is still their biggest market.

The Dreamworld LEGO store here in Australia is still open and definitely carrying this set (there is no legal requirement for them to close so they have decided to remain open for now with stuff in place to prevent the spread of the virus). I can't afford one right now but if I could, I would seriously buy one due to how cool it is (and I say that even though I own a reissue Black Seas Barracuda :)

Same here: status "in warehouse". Day 1 purchase (Germany).

Gravatar
By in United States,

For me as well: Purchased April 1 at midnight but it still shows in warehouse (Spain). Let's hope they ship them out before the weekend so we have a chance to build the set next week!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

still 'in warehouse' for me too. I have this delay every time I order something from lego. I ordered something from another store yesterday and it was shipped this morning! Lego, no.

On the support page it says standard delivery takes 2-4 business days. No mention of how long it takes to transition from 'in warehouse' to 'shipped.'

Also on back order now in UK, April 10 shipped by April 10. I ordered before back order came up. I had this at xmas with the Tree House. Ordered, got confirmation, then an email to say on backorder, ship after xmas. Eventually phoned up and cancelled, ordered from elsewhere and got delivered within two days.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Canada, ordered April 1, early am, and still shows in wharehouse as well...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've purchased many times online and it usually ships by the 3rd business day. But when ordering it did say to expect some delay due to covid-19. I couldn't care less when it ships so long as the order doesn't get cancelled.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I ordered mine in Mississippi on day of release and mine as of today (4/4) still shows in warehouse :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

To be fair as frustrating as it is I’d rather it stays in the warehouse for a bit and they adhere to safe practice.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mine's still in Warehouse... 5 days later :(

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Mine Pirates of Barracuda Bay set arrived today (ordered 1 April,) but on LEGO.com site the status is still "in warehouse"

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

FYI: My set (ordered shortly after midnight on 01/04) arrived today (Monday 06/04) at 7.15 p.m.; it had been shipped on Friday 03/04. I might start building tonight already ;)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

FYI - Mine was ordered early morning 01/04, shipped (from the UK) on 07/04, arrived this morning (08/04) - which is within the 5 business days!
Can I wait for the Easter weekend to start the build?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really want this set, but I think i'll wait for the next promotion and see what's on offer. The Easter egg freebie does nothing for me.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

Definitely a future buy! Maybe Lego should consider of making a 18th century Chateau, as the governor's residence under the Ideas or Expert sublogo

Gravatar
By in United States,

Has this shipped for anyone in the United States yet? I got an "import update about your recent LEGO.com order" email yesterday saying that "if you haven’t received it yet, we’re sorry to keep you waiting! We’re receiving a particularly high volume of orders at the moment and deliveries are taking us a few days longer than expected."

Shipments are obviously delayed and that's totally understandable. I'd just like to get a "shipping this week" or "shipping next weekend" update.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Darth_Moschonas_:
They could do it under Creator, but probably not Ideas. Employees can't submit Ideas projects, sets released under that theme have to be approved from submissions, and they're not allowed to produce themes. So, Minecraft got one Cuusoo set, and then everything else that followed was released under Minecraft as a traditional license. BttF and Doctor Who both got one set and then ended up licensed to Dimensions. Ghostbusters started in Ideas and then got both traditional sets and Dimensions packs. So, now that they've added "Pirate Bay (and Pirate Ship) concept" to the Restricted IP from LEGO Ideas list. We've seen stuff that was too similar to Research Institute and Old Fishing Store get turned down. Sure, that doesn't explicitly rule out a Governor's Mansion, but my gut feeling is that anything Pirates-related would be turned down.

That's actually a pity, since they really haven't done anything in the vein of a Governor's Mansion. There are six minifigs that Bricklink identifies as "Governor" under the Pirates theme, and two Governor's Daughters, but the sets they're included with are always either ships or forts (and the governors all look like high ranking military officers). PotC did one minifig of Elizabeth Swann, a third governor's daughter, but there's not even a minifig of Gov. Weatherby Swann.
