Meet a member: alexDTI
Posted by Huw,
We've had a terrific response to our 'meet a member' series and I have well over a fortnight's worth of people to feature, and more wanting to contribute. So, to help clear the backlog here's another one for you today:
Alessandro, aka alexDTI, is from Milan in Italy, but now lives in Trento.
What is your first LEGO memory?
My first Lego memory was with Bionicle with my first set, 8566 Onua Nuva. It was my first Bionicle set, I was 6 and I remember it perfectly because the box said "7+", so I asked if I could build it despite being too young. It was a gift from my grandpa.
I played with mom's Lego before that age, but I honestly don't remember anything.
Did you have a dark age and if so what caused you to emerge from it?
I didn't have dark age, but in middle school I was getting only a few set per year because I wasn't very interested in Lego. But at 13/14 years, my brother and I fell in love with Hero Factory and Atlantis, and also the collectable minifigures. I was back in collecting Lego, and fortunately, I never sell my old sets.
Which set or theme has been most influential upon you, as a LEGO fan?
The theme which was more influential to me wasn't Bionicle or Hero Factory, it was the Racers theme in particular the Tiny Turbos. I've been a huge fan of race cars since when I was little, and now I 'replaced' the Racers theme with the new Speed Champions sets.
How do you store your LEGO?
In plastic boxes, the sets that are stored built, and if they are big I disassemble them in small parts who are easy to rebuild in few minutes. Some Ideas and architecture sets are under display cases, but unfortunately there isn't a lot of space.
Do you build MOCs? If, so what?
I have created some Speed Champions MOC with Stud.io, but 4 of them are created with actual Lego brick which I use for my autodrome Diorama. They are so fun to do, and they are cheap to build because they are small. I'm even trying to modify the new Speed Champions sets from 8 studs to 6 studs width, so they are in scale with all of the other cars.
Recently I entered the Ideas contest for the music with my MOC called 'The BricK BanD'
What set would you like LEGO to produce?
This is really hard to answer, but I say The Iron Giant, one of my favourite films of all time. I really hope the ideas project gets approved.
What is your favourite official LEGO Set?
10194 Emerald Night, I love this set, I play a lot with that train. I have built it and re-built it so many times, I really hope they make a new steam locomotive for the creator series. It was my birthday when they gifted it to me. I stayed up till late night to finish it, I didn't have any rail track for this train, so I was using my mom's blue rails. It was gorgeous watching the train going on the rails.
Do you have any interests or hobbies other than LEGO?
I like watching Formula 1 and Moto GP races, drawing, playing video games and collecting Amiibo.
Do you have a presence on Instagram, YouTube or elsewhere?
I have a Tumblr account, but I use it for drawing
How long have you been visiting Brickset? Been a member?
Since 4th May 2017, it's really helpful for keeping track of owned sets, wanted sets, and articles for upcoming sets.
What's your favourite/most used feature of the site?
The function "owned sets", I like watching what I have in my collection sometimes.
Thanks Alessandro!

Nice to hear your story!
Hi Alessandro, nice to meet you.
I'm from Italy too, Imola. If you like racing like me come to my page on Brickset forum and take a look to my custom F1 models with stickers. It would be nice to share opinions.

Congratulations for your diorama and stay healty.
That Speed Champions set-up there is incredible.
The Ferrari truck and pit stop you've got there were some of my earliest sets! The stickers on mine have crumbled and become ruined over the years so it's awesome to see yours in such a great condition :)
AFOL with a sick Nintendo collection, nice building skills, and a nerdy math clock? damn i might be crushing. the clock is cute and reminds me of one i've seen at my college, might even be the same one but i can't exactly check with the social distancing stuff going on lmao
