Meet a member: AustrianLegoFan

Today we're catching up with Holger aka AustrianLegoFan a school bus driver who, believe it or not, lives in Austria...

What is your first LEGO memory?

I can't remember my first LEGO set, but I had and loved the 12v railway sets 7735 Freight Train Set and 7745 High-Speed City Express Passenger Train Set with several accessory sets such as 7823 Container Crane Depot and 7839 Car Transport Depot. I loved it to build different track layouts with all Town sets i have owned.

Did you have a dark age and if so what caused you to emerge from it?

When I got older I sold everything. In 2006 my wife gave me the 8285 Tow Truck for Christmas and the passion was kindled again. I started collecting Technic sets again and a few years later i collected City, Creator etc.

Now, I buy and collect nearly all Sets that are coming out except Duplo.

Which set or theme has been most influential upon you, as a LEGO fan?

Definitely Technic and all what is about Trains.

What are you building right now?

I've just about finished building all the sets from the 1st wave of 2020, with just Friends and Princess to go. I am waiting patiently for 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, 42111 Dom's Dodge Charger and the Star Wars Busts

How do you store your LEGO?

I have a 45qm2 room with shelves and a small City build up. I try to display all bigger Sets. The smaller ones are stored in bags / big boxes.

Do you build MOCs? If, so what?

Not really, I have no time for that. Years ago I build a Train Bridge with 1m wingspan.

What is your favourite part?

There are so many great parts that I cannot commit to a specific one.

What sets would you like LEGO to produce?

LEGO should to more Train accessory sets again like those in the 80´s or the my own train sets in the 2000s. There should also be more specific train track pieces like those available from several 3D printers.

Do you have a presence on Instagram, YouTube or elsewhere?

Youtube AustrianLegoFan, HWBricks and The Austrian Brick

Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/austrianlegofan

Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/Austrianlegofan

What is the availability of LEGO like where you live?

Here in Austria its no problem to buy LEGO, because there are many dealers that provide them equal to Germany etc. But we have only 2 LEGO stores and both are in Vienna and e.g. for me its 350 km away.

Do you have any interests or hobbies other than LEGO?

I love to play Badminton and make some fitness. I am a huge fan of films, but have not often time to go to cinema. But above all of this at first position are my kids and my wife.

How long have you been visiting Brickset?

I am a member since 2014 and visit Brickset nearly all day

What's your favourite/most used feature of the site?

I use your database to figure out which sets belong to a series / year for my compilation Videos.
Aso, I use to stay up to date with upcoming sets.

Have you been to a LEGO event?

In the past I have no time to go to one, because the distances are long and it would take several days to go to one, and cannot be reconciled with work and family. But I hope that it is possible in the future..

Thanks Holger!

@AustrianLegoFan, Thank you for your speed builds on Youtube. I find them entertaining and often very useful too as they allow me to prep mods of sets before I have them.

Nice interview - I too love your set videos. The production is fantastic. And no preaching!

By in France,

I have watched sooooo many of your videos! For my part, I must say that I did prefer the older format, with lapse time build and quick tour of main features only, with music playing. I wonder if you did not changed this due to new COPPA/UTube rules. I still watch them nonetheless. Pleased to hear from you much deeper as a Lego fan and BS user ALF.

I didn't even know you did videos. All my LEGO video experience up to now came from watching Jang, Sariel, Held der Steine and Johnny's World. Must check out your channel.
