By in United States,

Probably a day 1 purchase for me. I've wanted this set for a long time, as this is my favorite starfighter from the Star Wars universe.

Gravatar
By in United States,

“For fans of all ages”
“challenging for 18+“
Hmmm...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Finally!

Price is insane but I'll probably still buy it day one just because I want something to do and I love new and shiny things.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Finally, Disney announced it an hour ago.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Complete the fleet is here. I'll get it of course, but it seems priced just a tad high.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice for the lovers of the A wing.

I'm saving my money for an eventual UCS TIE bomber.

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Someone at Lego has an A wing fetish for sure judging solely by the number of these starfighters released over the years. The set itself gets a "meh" from me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$200 USD for 1,700 pieces? Seems a tad bit expensive. Then again, I'm also saving up for the UCS gunship so maybe that's my stance?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awesome. The A-Wing is my favorite ship. I'll definitely be grabbing this used on ebay at some point at a better price. $200 is too much.

I'll probably also try to tile the inside of the upper fins. They look pretty ugly as-is and are extremely visible.

Gravatar
By in United States,

How about a radio button for “This is awesome and I’d love to buy it; unfortunately, I don’t collect this theme because I have neither the funds nor the space.“

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Gah, I was really hoping for studshooters.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like this...
Now then lego we need UCS sith infiltrator, imperial shuttle, Gungnam submarine, pod Racers and At-At walkers!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm glad they're finally doing a UCS A-Wing! It looks great, but I feel like $200 is too steep a price for this; a $160 price tag would be a lot more fair judging by its size and piece count.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Meh, one more for the OT fans to tick off the list.

Bring on the Gunship!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Now just waiting for the May the 4th promo reveal. :)
I probably won't get this as I'm saving up for the T-Rex rampage

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pirates bay has almost 1000 more pieces, at the same price?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The front of the canopy seems to stick up way too high when viewed from the side.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks stunning. Not my cup of tea but it looks incredible. Is that a new cockpit element?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love it. Yes please!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lovely set, and I imagine it would be a fantastic building experience. But, my restrictive LEGO budget won't allow for a 'like' set...

"Meh, one more for the OT fans to tick off the list.

The OT UCS sets are nearing the end of there reign I hope for sequel ones like a resistance x-wing, Kylo's shuttle or first or final order star destroyer

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gorgeous but I would be more comfortable with a price of 150 USD.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not bad, but the front section is pretty rough though. I already completed my fleet with MOC's so definite pass on this. Also, don't forget the 18+ age, or any age LEGO puts, is ONLY a recommendation.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$200 as a blanket price for all the regular UCS ships regardless of relative size or piece count seems steep but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want it, it looks not so much like a perfect representation as a very complex LEGO approximation and I think I prefer that approach. The canopy looks really good, it had better be printed though.

I haven't heard any rumors about the release date of the gunship but I bet it's going to be either the fall release or next May's if they were smart and had designs ready to go before launching that poll. I expect that one's going to be at least $300

I don't really like the fact though that an A-Wing costs as much as a Y-Wing, when the latter is a bigger ship (or is supposed to be anyway)."

I agree! The Y-Wing - 10.2c pp, Snowspeeder - 11.7c pp and now this at 12c pp!
Geez!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

There should have been an option: "No, but I like it!"

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Honestly, looks better than I thought. I won't buy it, but it's nice.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Users write that the set is expensive, they compare this set in terms of price to, for example, "Creator", but they forget that the license for "Star Wars" is very expensive.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not the biggest Star Wars fan in general but oh my have they done a fantastic job making this ship. Like wow, amazing. Though I am going to have to say the £180 price tag is less than desirable to me think maybe around £160 should have been the RRP.

Also I find it interesting that its an 18+, hoping to see some new techniques from TLG and also hope there are some new elements.

The cockpit looks cosy, that seat looks really comfy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Also WOW that box art is so smooth, looks like something released by a luxury company, which LEGO obviously is, duh.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've never understood the fascination with this ship and after seeing the model I still don't. Good for those that love it, easy pass for me.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

But what happened to the Gunship? I am saving for an order I have on hold and some CW sets.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I remember someone calling this, claiming the next regular (non fanvote) 200$ USC set would be an A-Wing. Idk if I really want to spend that much money on it, but ive been procrastination on getting about any USC set for ages

Gravatar
By in United States,

That transition from the front slope to the angled sides is jarringly off. Still happy that it was finally done.

Gravatar
By in United States,

the fins look unfinished and this will likely be distracting from most angles

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For those comparing the price per part to the Y-Wing... That thing had a huge volume of tiny greebles.

I like this A-wing, but don't love it. The front of the canopy and exposed anti-studs at the back are very distracting. I wouldn't need much of an excuse to order this day one, but as it stands I'll need a sweet freebie to take the plunge.

This is the first time the A-Wing has gotten a UCS set (the last such original trilogy Rebel starfighter to get that treatment). And it's only the 10th time an A-Wing has appeared in a set (not counting advent calendars or polybags). Compared to popular ships like the X-Wing or TIE-Fighter, this is hardly the most broadly represented ship in the theme.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice, but that is a heck of a lot of money.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Keep trying to get out of LEGO. LEGO keeps sucking me back in. But yup, expensive. Guess Disney needs to make back some money they are losing from their parks.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks great! Definitely getting it. Only hope there's a good promo to go with it for May the fourth

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks great but I think there’s a lack of feautures - hence why they kept name dropping the new buildable helmets in the press release. I thought that was odd?

Still I like it, but not $200 right away like it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks pretty much exactly what a UCS A-Wing should look like. It’s a lovely model and it completes the UCS rebel starfighter fleet, which will please a lot of fans.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks neat, I guess, but I think this was a huge missed opportunity for a UCS AT-AT. It's the 40th anniversary this year, imagine if we got a proper sized and detailed AT-AT to commemorate! It could be poseable, I doubt an RC one would be possible at that size, but one can dream... heck, how neat would it be if it came with a snowspeeder that had a new and accurate windscreen component! Oh well, I'm no LEGO designer, but I wish we could've gotten that.

Also, the continued expense of the SW line is getting out of hand. $200?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

When the marketing blurb falls back on 'buildable helmets are also available' as being a selling point it suggests its features might be lacking.
A removable canopy you say..... just like any other piece of Lego then. Guess they couldn't be bothered to work out how to make it either retract or hinge; or to add a landing gear it seems. The lack of photos of the underside is somewhat worrying.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it and will be buying it, but the proportions seem off to me. The red engine parts look too long or the white front area is too short. But doing a quick digi of the studio model side by side, it's just about perfect.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$200 seems really overpriced... but what else was I supposed to spend my stimulus check on?

Gravatar
By in France,

Not overwhelmed

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm underwhelmed at this. I try not to complain and I'm glad they made it (for others). I've seen better versions at minifig scale though. This one... seems rushed maybe. Blocky and some of the build techniques are just old and weak. Oh well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Who's the designer? :) Some of those angles look like Mike Psiaki's handywork, but I don't think he usually does Star Wars sets...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I expect I'll end up buying this because I've got the other three alphabet fighters so I should complete the series. That, and I'm a sucker for dark red- it's too expensive for a parts pack, but I hope something else (re)uses the Nexo Knights shields in dark red, or the trans-yellow 6x6 dishes.

That said, what exactly is exclusive about this A-Wing's pilot? I'm not seeing anything on the arms and it looks very similar to the 75175 and 75003 figures.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Any word on what the promo is this year?

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

That canopy piece will make some people very happy. Especially if they're building modern fighter jets...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Legoporg:
Can't...seem to find...the UN-like button... GAH!

@CDM:
I don't either. I remember when all my friends were playing X-Wing, this was the most popular fighter because it was the fastest. I much preferred flying the titular X-Wing, which had beefier shields and twice as many guns. I could quad-link them for close-in dogfighting, and almost always score a hit whenever I pulled the trigger. With shields at full strength, I could actually fly _through_ a TIE Fighter and destroy it (I called it "threading the needle"). And I found that it was actually easier to control the dogfight in a slightly slower fighter because it made it so much easier to lead the opponent with my target reticle.

But my all-time favorite mission actually puts you in a Y-Wing. All you're there to do is do flybys on cargo containers to ID the contents (and I think maybe you had to destroy a few). But if you're really bad at it and take forever to complete the mission goals (or you just park and wait for the main event), an ISD eventually drops out of hypserspace and starts belching out a dozen waves of six TIE Interceptors (so, 72 total) to take you out. In your Y-Wing. It takes at least an hour to empty out the hanger bay, but man that is hands down the best mission of the entire series of games. But the A-Wing sucked. It had the weeniest guns of any Rebel fighter, and it only carried concussion missiles instead of proton torpedoes.

@paulmison:
The print pattern looks similar to the 2017 A-Wing Pilot, but the flight suit looks dark-green instead of regular green, the bib is grey instead of tan, the buckles to either side of the neck are square instead of round, the torso print has a couple extra detail lines below the bib, the print on the hips and at the bottom of the flight straps are clearly different, and the helmet has a much more detailed deco design.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

$260 CAD is $10 more than the Y-Wing and $10 less than the Tantive. This model is atrocious. The top and bottom sides don't come to a sharp edge in the front. Additionally, the "stepped" panelling is way out of scale. The ship looks very broken up and not smooth.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

OK, got it. Now, let's get to the point and show me the new AT-AT.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I feel I would be more interested if it was in the $150 range

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not sure when I'll be buying this but it is was on my UCS wishlist so thank you LEGO!

Gravatar
By in United States,

OH FINALLY!!!! So many years I have waited for this--OCD's of the world rejoice, we'll finally have all four alphabet fighters!!

*cough* *gag* $200 ???

You're better at spotting the details than I am. Thanks.

@ElementalAvenger82: according to The Brothers Brick, "the Death Star II battle", presumably in a similar style to last year's Hoth and Endor GWPs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would’ve loved this about 15 years ago when I was a Star Wars fanatic who couldn’t have afforded it. Now I can afford it but I have no interest.

Ah yes, the "licencing fee" which somehow warrants a massive mark up in price. $260 CAD for only 1600ish pieces? No way, Jose

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice, and I'll pick it up at some point, but not at that price. £130 would have been nearer the mark.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

So, they’ve given us a 501st Battle Pack...
And completed the fleet...

Is now the time to ask for a Geonosian Arena, TIE Bomber or Jango Fett’s Slave I?

Anyway, I really like the look of this. Might be a bit overpriced but looks good enough.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have a question for all: Do UCS sets ever usually go on discount? I really like this set but $200 is a little out of my price range.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gorgeous but my “expensive set” wish list is way too long right now.

Yes, but not right away

Gravatar

@Mr_Yolo:
Usually when a UCS SW set goes on discount, there's someone standing by with their finger hovering over the "Enter" button, waiting to change the status to "Sold Out". And then a week later they change it to "Retired".

Gravatar

Expensive dust collector right there. Those yellow dishes are delicious though.

You hit the nail on the head man!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was wondering when they'd get around to doing a UCS A-Wing set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like I need to work some overtime... oh wait, I already worked the overtime!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Great for all the Star Wars fans - not my favourite one but does look good. My real question at this time is: When do we usually hear about the summer wave of Technic sets? Anyone knows? Some are due in June - shouldn't we hear about them just about now? That said, I am very sorry to use this SW thread to ask this - I won't do it again, promise.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Day 4 purchase for me...May the 4th.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Quite easily pass on this one. It’s a barely recognisable ship from the films. I’ve got the x wing, y wing and b wing. B wing is hardly in the films but has a really unusual design which translated well to the UCS model which is imposing and eye catching. One of my favourite UCS’s. This is just a bit non descript due to the ships design itself. Also expensive.

Here’s to hoping a massive, and hugely overdue UCS AT AT hits soon

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow. It is cool looking. Makes me feel like a kid again when Jedi first came out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To me this is a mash up of designs and techniques that I really like and others that I don't. The front is brilliant, the new cockpit component works well, the back looks well finished, and the engines are effective despite the use of large pieces. However, I am not sold on the design of the front of the wings, I feel like those could have been made much more sleek. The area behind the cockpit is also far to square and could have benefited from some better SNOT techniques. Lastly, the exposed studs on the inside of the two fins are incredibly unsightly. I wonder why they couldn't have use some 2x2 or 1x3 inverted tiles to smooth that off.

The price seems far to high (in the U.S. at least). I would say it's worth at most $180.00 USD.

I wonder how well it will sell. I'm a Star Wars fan and I only know about the A-wing because I'm a LEGO fan. I just don't know how many people (inside and outside of the hobby) would spend so much on a more obscure spaceship. Does anyone remember how well the 2012 UCS B-Wing sold?

Overall, kudos to the designer for creating this. It's not perfect but I feel overall the reaction is positive. I hope it will sell!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The A-wing is my favorite Star Wars ship. It shocks me how rough this looks. I have seen much better A-wing MOCs that I want to build. The front of the MOCs overcome the change in angle in the middle of the ship but this doesn't. The sides of this ship needed to be a horizontal SNOT technique, instead of the normal sandwich technique. The A-wing is a very smooth ship and they should have gotten rid of every stud they could have. The price is such a weird gouge. I don't feel like buying this and then buying another $30 in parts to fix it. I thought this ship could look so good like the UCS Slave 1. Look at this A-wing on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-29126/Gumbinger/resistance-rz-2-a-wing/comments

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

I was hoping to finally see a $100-150 UCS set, and this could have been a great "cheap" UCS. Other than that, it looks quite cool.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It's not the price per piece that worries me, it's the stickers! They are awful and not worthy an UCS set. Listen LEGO!

Other than that the A-Wing looks great. Kudos to the designer.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

We didn’t complete the fleet! What about the u-wing?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Very interested to know what makes this an 18+ set.

Gravatar
By in France,

2 things. To appeal to irregular adult buyers who ordinarily think lego to be just a toy. And 2, to entice younger kids even more like a 12 year old wanting to see a cert15 movie

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It looks sexy and it's a lot cheaper than the other UCS things.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks good.
But at that price, not iconic enough to tempt me.
X-wing... iconic
A-wing... not essential for my collection.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It looks really cool and I love the trans yellow parts. I'll be in trouble if I start collecting UCS Star Wars, but this is definitely one of the more tempting models in the series.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm glad I'm not the only fan of the B-Wing. I love how different it looks as well as the UCS version of it. Never understood why it never gets much love. Plus it came with (IMHO) the best UCS freebie which was the chrome silver protocol droid. Still waiting for the updated chrome 3PO.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Interesting comments above - I must say I am rather underwhelmed considering its such a basic ship in the films at the level of detail and those rear fins .... really ?? 18 to slap some plates together. If you take the recent y-wing ucs set and compare detail you may get a feeling of where I am coming from when you look at the price. The MOCs doing the current rounds show more advanced building techniques....... cant be right. Never seen the excitement around this bland ship, but thats my opinion. It just looks so ........ errr bland. Fortunately it has made my decision easier on what set next - the pirate ship wins a my son will enjoy it too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set is beautiful. It's a great homage to the A-wings released. I love every single A-wing they release whether it's regular sized, mini micro sized or just about any size. The more they make the better. It's non-stop support from me. I would love an additional UCS type of A-wing with a minifigure as well but the scale would be nuts to pull off- you'd have to use 1 x 1 pieces or 1 x 2 pieces everywhere :D. It would be similar to Gundam models in the series "Real Grade" where they turn Perfect Grade Scale models and shrink it but keep the high quality just in a smaller scale and call it "Real Grade".

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I just don’t understand how everyone is fine with the way Lego exploits fans with these over-priced licensed sets. I appreciate the products they make but I can’t admire them when their business practices are so shady.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

would get it if it had a limited edition/rare figure

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Well, it looks nice. The only UCS set I have is the Y-wing. And I might pay (eventually?) for the Star Destroyer, but no... the A-wing does not appeal to me at all...

Of course, if I were to win the lottery, I would change my tune immediately.

Gravatar
By in United States,

l really like it, but $200 is a little much. This should be a $150 set, right?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks cool, but has zero features / transformations :(

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it but their online store is so backed up right now, this set is going to kill them. I just ordered a large set and it took them 8 days to get it shipped.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love this, but I don't think Lego is targetting guys like me who are stuck in the job-hunting void and can't afford to drop almost £200 on a whim xD I kinda wish they'd try making some smaller, cheaper UCS sets that the far more casual fan could afford; I'd love to try out that more complex building experience, but every UCS set so far has been simply way out of my price range.

So until / unless that happens, I'm gonna just keep being content to admire from afar :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd have selected the option "No, but I'd love to have it!" Just can't afford it now w/the Mrs. furloughed and so many other Must Have sets clamoring for my non-existent LEGO money. They did a bang up job on this, but for same price as Barracuda Bay? Nope. Also - non related rant here; what's up w/being charged VIP points to enter contests? Those used to be, and should remain, free to enter. Slim to none chances of winning any ways and it just seems like a cheap move on TLG's part.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

There are no Lego sets that you could buy much more cheaper then retail price. You could even buy a complete one disassemble it and it will cost the fraction of the original price. Just wait for the good craiglist offer)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wow! At 150-160 EUR, yes! At 200 EUR... no. And please LEGO... you guys can do miracles... so please make us that UCS AT-AT (even if it has extra transparant supports). I'm willing to part with a maximum of 500 EUR for an official UCS AT-AT.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the UCS line, but find it cost- and space-prohibitive. I guess I'll have to wait until I make more money. Oh, and I really like this A-Wing. Top-notch.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego will just keep trolling as long as a dedicated fanbase buys any set released at any price. Besides this overpriced and oversized A Wing, consider numerous other examples. An empty Star Destroyer with 2 mundane figures. 700$.
A teeny Sith Tie Fighter where the actual ship is probably under 500 pieces..80$. Even the BookShop, cool looking, but smaller and less detailed than the similar sized modulars that were 20$ cheaper. 5$ minifigs. I know inflation is a thing but Lego price increases far outpace inflation rates. Oh well.

It's a nice model but it doesn't seem to have a landing gear? There was no mentioning of it in the designer video, which was unfortunate. In general, there was too much talk unrelated to the this specific model, those videos could be done a bit more heavy on the content side. And coming back to the landing gear, I like play features, the Snowspeeder had some nice ones.

Also, 20 years of LSW and they are able to do something new? The A-wing pilot looks almost exactly like the one from 75003.

I know the Original Trilogy "Wing" ships are complete, but what about the others? The U-Wing and the V-Wing?

"$200 seems really overpriced... but what else was I supposed to spend my stimulus check on?"

Food and water, other essentials

This looks great, but I'm trying to save for either the UCS Star Destroyer or Millennium Falcon.

Honestly it's been a while since I was really excited about a Lego set. This looks amazing. Going to have to get it.

I'm glad I'm not the only fan of the B-Wing. I love how different it looks as well as the UCS version of it. Never understood why it never gets much love. Plus it came with (IMHO) the best UCS freebie which was the chrome silver protocol droid. Still waiting for the updated chrome 3PO."

Didn’t get the 3PO as bought the B Wing in a Lego shop.

The original Star Wars ship designers really got everything spot on. Space ships and vehicles looked like real things, warts and all. The B Wing is ugly, but that’s what makes it good. Perfect companion to the XWing and YWing.

By in United States,

Looks like stickers on the canopy to me. Too many stickers, UCS sets should have exclusively printed parts for the prices TLG (and Disney) are asking.

If TLG wants to claim the UCS line as premium products, they need to give them the premium treatment.

As a fan of classic Star Wars, this should tick all the right boxes for me. But for one, the price is ridiculous, and even if it wasn't, the A-Wing is my least favorite of all the classic ships. So for me an easy pass. Plus, I have still got so many unbuilt sets that they will last me for years - even under lockdown conditions.

A removable canopy you say..... just like any other piece of Lego then. Guess they couldn't be bothered to work out how to make it either retract or hinge; or to add a landing gear it seems. The lack of photos of the underside is somewhat worrying. "

You can kind of see the underside in their designer video (about 0:43 I think) and it just looks like a load of plates facing studs downwards, nothing special but at least it's not like the underside of the 2019 Tantive IV, it's neat at least.

By in United States,

I am seriously considering getting this on Day 1.

IMO this is one of the best-designed UCS sets to date, like, alongside the 2019 Star Destroyer, 2017 Millennium Falcon, and 2017 Snowspeeder. It looks just like the "real" thing and from a distance, you'd probably think it wasn't LEGO.

By in Jordan,

I thought it looked a little rough at first, but the more I look at it the more I like it! There are a lot of nice details and shaping to appreciate. Solid entry to the UCS line IMO.

By in Australia,

I love this set, it's beautiful, I've been wanting a UCS A-wing since I was a kid and it's everything I had hoped it would be but 330 DOLLARY-DOOS!!! That's 20c/piece and while I know that price/piece is not the be-all-and-end-all, that's a pretty extreme figure, even including the licence fee. Feels like Lego has become aware that they can make sets just for adults and that means they can charge adult prices and I think that's pretty unfair.

Price high. Not surprising.

Model is OK. Not as thrilled as some of the more playable fighters. UCS can sometimes be much more watered down as an ‘idea’ than I would prefer...

I’ll buy it if I have the money. I missed the Y-wing and I wasn’t happy about it. Wasn’t out as long as I thought it would be. So I’ll probably buy this at full or Amazon retail.

10240 UCS X-Wing had 1559 pieces and retailed at 200 $/€ in 2013.
75095 UCS Tie Fighter had 1685 pieces and retailed at 200 $/€ in 2015.
Today this set contains 1673 pieces and retails also at 200 $/€. Not great and surely no bargain, but just saying...

And that's not even getting into the fact that they've been staving off four decades of inflation at this point. By all rights, this set should cost several hundred dollars, if prices had changed at the same rate as gas, milk, bread, and other consumer goods.

"Someone at Lego has an A wing fetish for sure judging solely by the number of these starfighters released over the years. The set itself gets a "meh" from me."

Not as many as the snowspeeder!
