Technic Ducati Panigale revealed!
Posted by Huw,
Yesterday Star Wars fans received news to get excited about. Now it's the turn of Technic fans. Here's the press release for the next licensed model:
42107 LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R
646 pieces, $69,99, €59.99, £54.99, available from 1st June.
Today, the LEGO Group revealed its latest LEGO Technic model, the Ducati Panigale V4 R, boasting the style, sophistication and performance of the ultimate superbike.
The new model is a spectacular replica of the iconic Italian motorcycle, combining LEGO Technic and Ducati design DNA to recreate the curves and aerodynamic form of the two-wheeled wonder. Just like the visionary motorbike does in real life, the LEGO version transports LEGO builders to new heights as they easily act out the tight turns and fast straights that the bike can easily navigate thanks to its powerful engine.
Those that have ever imagined riding this iconic Italian-engineered motorcycle, will love building this LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R set. Builders can discover how the innovative 2-speed gearbox activates the V4-cylinder engine and marvel at the futuristic rear and front suspension before taking the model out for a spin of their own once complete. The model’s unique kickstand means that builders can park the superbike model up and proudly put it on display it once it has been put through its paces.
The LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R is the first motorcycle model in LEGO Technic history to include a gearbox that allows builders to navigate through different speeds. Other awesome features include realistic steering, suspension to help with high-octane action and front and rear disc brakes. An exhaust pipe, a windshield and a dashboard are also some of the small details that make this replica model so true to the full-size version. And of course, the classic red colour is sure to accelerate the pulse of any Ducati fan.
“The Ducati Panigale V4 R is such an elegant Italian icon and a true technological masterpiece.” commented Aurélien Rouffiange, Senior Designer at LEGO Technic. “It was essential that I included as many authentic details from the real motorbike as I could when designing the new LEGO Technic version, ensuring I captured all the bike’s curves and the unique features. Just as Ducati continually pushes boundaries in its design, we demonstrated what the LEGO Technic range is capable of by engineering a fully functioning motorcycle gearbox for the first time and connecting it to the spinning V4 cylinder engine using existing pieces.”
“We have all been kids passionate about LEGO bricks and I think it is easy to understand that this new licensing agreement between Ducati and the LEGO Group is like a dream come true. We are two brands that share the same values of dedication, passion and attention to detail – values that have come together to give life to a unique building experience” said Alessandro Cicognani, Ducati Licensing Director. “Our hope is that the Ducati Panigale V4 R LEGO Technic can bring together, excite and entertain not only children and parents, but also all the fans who ride their motorcycles every day.”
With the realistic features of the LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R, builders of all ages can immerse themselves in the world of engineering, as they discover how gear mechanisms work and the engine functions.
The LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R model is designed for fans aged 10+ and will be available from LEGO.com from 1st June.
This new model is the first to be created after a licensing agreement was recently signed between the LEGO Group and Ducati Motor Holding.

Not the announcement I expected to see at 2 AM, but it's neat nonetheless. Go red! Best color!!
For me similar to 8420.
Meh. Looks fine but I don’t get Technic. Just not my thing.
LEGO, please consider 3L pins with friction in the main color of the model! The standard blue ones are really not nice in models like this motorcycle.
I don't like motorcycles, but this model is very neat; I'll pick it up at some point.
Much better news than that A-Wing!
Noticed some new parts, cant wait to see the real thing!
Working gearbox!? At this scale?! Ngl I might have to get this solely to see how that mechanism works
I think my Dad will actually like this technic bike for once.
Technic's not really my thing so maybe someone can enlighten me: why is a set this size getting a special announcement? Looks like any other ordinary mid-sized technic set to me.

There is nothing ordinary about Ducati. They have a rich history in two-wheeled motor racing and have produced some of the most desirable motorbikes in the world for several decades.
Ducati is basically the Ferrari of motorcycles.
This is getting a special announcement because it's a big deal.
Yaaay, pin talk. That's fresh.
Speaking positively though, I'm personally quite keen on this. A gearbox isn't necessarily new, but I'm still interested to see it in a bike for the first time, and at the same price as the last technic bike IIRC (the BMW one?). It's a good addition to the standard set of bike functions without additional cost, the loss of any other functions, or sacrifices to the looks. (Again, beyond how the looks of any modern technic set are 'compromised')
Thanks for the review Huw.
Have loved Technic since I received 8841 Dune Buggy back in the mid 80's and emerged from lengthy Dark Ages with the 8110 U400 UniMOG in approx 2012.
Agree with MusiMus from Poland that this set resembles 8420 Street Bike, but this is much better.
I don't own a Ducati, I own a Suzuki, but I'd love to have a Ducati in my garage, and perhaps having this one on my desk is as close as I'll get to having a Duke in the garage.
A small suggestion, the bike is not resting on a 'kickstand' it sits on a 'race' stand or sometimes referred to as a 'paddock' stand which enables mechanics/techs to work on the bike with the back wheel off the ground.
Thanks again for another great review.
I like that you have started with the polls under new sets :)
However maybe add another "No" option that is not so negative?
Now it is:
Yes, eventually
Yes! A day one purchase!
Yes, but I'll wait for a discount
No, it doesn't interest me
No, it is too expensive
Something like:
No, but it looks like a great set
Lego makes a lot of great sets, but most of us can or will not buy every good-looking one they make in every theme :)
The disk brakes make this set a must-buy for me, though I reaaally would have appreciated some mudguard elements.
At a quick glance I first thought this was a random-set-of-the-day article with set 8420 haha.
Nice looking set for those who are into technic but me not being the biggest technic lover I will probably just pass on this.
646 pieces for a £55 set is good value even if most of them pieces are small pins and axles.
Again, why do licensed Technic themes? Why not creator expert?
That looks lovely! And the price isn't too crazy either. Good stuff.
Lovely bike, no surprise we’re getting it now as it’s part of VAG group
Technic suits better to superbikes than to muscle cars IMO. This replica is fantastic. All is there. Gorgeous, even for me who is not a huge fan of bikes nor Technic range. I understand that fans have good reasons to be excited after this reveal and the UCS A-Wing, which looks pretty promising too (even if overpriced, but we talk about SW ^^)

Um... it's a press release, not a review :-)
This'll go great next to my old 8051 Motorcycle.
This is awesome.
Like the set, it will be interesting to see how the gearbox has been implemented. Nice that they finally give us some realistic discs for the brakes and the fork-outers in goldish are a nice touch too. The plastic sheet for the windscreen is a simple solution, without having to introduce a new mold.
Don't see the kickstand that's mentioned in the article, probably should be "pit-stand"?
@magmafrost
I welcome your ignorance and you willing to ask. I think it is the purpose of such a community we have here at Brickset.
Fresh subject or old, those blue pins look like a disease especially in this case.
Ducati Monster, please! I will be purchasing two of these sets Day One: one to assemble and the other for the MOC pile. Lego is the perfect hobby for these crazy times as it looks like the powers-that-be are determined to take spectator sports away.
That gear box looks very interesting and I'm not so concerned with the piece count as it seems the model is packed with innovative design.
If there is a kick stand I guess it springs up so the bike falls over? :)
Very Nice reasonably priced...
I probably won't buy it but lovely model, well done lego:
@magmafrost @TJCroCrop
I don’t think that’s ignorant at all. I’m not a Technic collector either, so it’s good we can seek more info here. Happy for those Technic/Ducati/motorbike fans amongst us.
Awesome. I'm due a mid-life crisis. Added to my wants list.
Think of the blue parts as blued, heat-treated steel. People pay good money for that.
Looks good for a medium-sized set.
Pretty psyched for this. I've wanted to see a Lego motorcycle with a working gearbox for a long time. The brake discs look nice, and I'm really curious about how those front shocks work. My only real gripe is that the windshield being a sheet of PET rather than a new element, but I suppose that's a reasonable tradeoff given all the other new elements.

I stand corrected.
I'm not usually a Technic guy but this Ducati piques my interest much more than the previously released BMW. I personally prefer the race stand over a traditional kickstand. Much more Moto GP race type feel to it. It's a Ducati after all.
So, $69.99 CAD?
It’s very sharp. They did a great job on the paneling, truly does look like a Ducati! That said, I won’t buy on day one, but am really interested in the parts. I’ll eventually buy two sets to part them out.
It's a beautiful looking set, they've really nailed it, but I already own 8420 Street Bike and it's honestly just not different looking enough to justify the shelf space. That could be seen as a negative but really it just goes to show how well Lego did all those years ago!
"Will you be buying this set?"
(X) I really want to! But, I probably wont...
I like how that seat looks like... it is begging for a technic figure to be sitting on it ;)
(X) YES!
It doesn't look very comfortable to sit on. Do motorbikes not come with saddles these days?
Looks pretty sweet, aside from the multi-colored Technic pins. Also, much less likely to kill me than the real thing... still want one though!

You can recognise a Ducati owner pretty easily: they waddle rather than walk and are on first name terms with their proctologists :~)
Well, I just got part of my answer; yesterday I kind of hijacked a SW thread(sorry again) to ask when we would get news about upcoming Technic sets. That's the first one and it is lovely! It does indeed look like the 8420 and there is a big probability that 8420 was indeed modelled after that bike (aside from the front fork) "just without the licensing agreement". To limit to a manageable point the amount of sets I buy in any given year, I decided to only buy Licensed Technic sets. This is not working very well for me this year as there is the Ducati, the Fast & the Furious, the upcoming Lamborghini, the upcoming Volvo dumper, the upcoming Bell Osprey and I have yet to get the Liebherr, the Land Rover and the Top Gear abomination(only good for the control+ and the new differential). And that does not count the odd sets I buy because they are just too good to miss: Pirates of Barracuda Bay, the upcoming Technic cement truck and most likely the upcoming Blacksmith shop. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a small discount on a few of them (large discounts are incredibly rare in Canada).
According to the press release, this bike has only two speeds which should be reasonably easy to do with the new gear shifting piece (available in the Porsche 911 and the Bugatti Chiron).
Like many, I wonder how long it will take Lego to understand that blue (and tan) pins are not correct - ever. Back in the days, everything was black and light gray and it never happened once that I stopped building a set because it required a bit of search for the right piece. Patience, observation and thoroughness are good skills to develop and the next generation would certainly benefit from it.
don't normally buy technic, but the style and price of this one makes it an eventual must-buy
$69.99 USD.......not $59.99...
I might get stoned for saying this but I prefer the look of this compared to the https://brickset.com/sets/10269-1/Harley-Davidson-Fat-Boy
I know the concepts and aims are different but still. This does look really cool and will be my second motorbike after https://brickset.com/sets/8838-1/Shock-Cycle which is quite the improvement :-D
I don't collect Technic but this looks nice!
I am really critical of the onslaught of licensed themes; even in themes that for most of as long as I can remember, have been completely barren of them; except for the occasional promotional set. That being said, the choices in Technic are excellent and really help to explain and showcase the years of engineering that went into building the actual vehicles. That being said, I'm super excited for the Osprey that's coming out; as they've fascinated me ever since I first heard of them as a preteen 15 years ago. I
The Ducati--all I can say is that it looks gorgeous. Its sleek curves are very well represented; as well as being one of the most advanced bikes LEGO's ever put out.

It's gone up, then, since they wrote the press release...
Meh
Wow, this looks much better than 42036 and 8420. And a 2-speed gearbox? On a bike!? Double wow! LEGO has outdone themselves on this one. Very nice.
This set seems to have either brand new suspension on the front wheel, or some kind of new connector in either gold or yellow.
This looked like a great model, but not my thing--but a working gearbox in a model this size? -That's- cool.
The most complex Technic set I own is 8448 (actually, the old Destroyer Droid probably rivals it in complexity), but to see such function and realism crammed into a model this size, I might just have to get this.
@PjtrXmos said:

Because this one is less about the form and more about the technical function. The H-D Fatboy had working pistons and drive chain, but that was about it, which is why it fit better in the Creator theme. This one has that, plus gearbox and full suspension -- that's what the Technic theme is all about.
Looks amazing, not sure I'll buy it though. Hopefully Lego can give us a Ducati Scrambler. I'll be first in line to buy that.
A solid evolution of the Technic motorcycle concept. Looks great and the gearbox with correct gear sequence is a welcome addition.
However, I’m not sure about the specialist parts for the front brake disc and front (Titanium Nitride coloured, upside down) forks. They don’t really look like Lego and I think they take the specialist, single application part concept a bit too far. I’ll probably still get it though.
Love the disc brakes. Technic has been on a downward slope for several years, but this is quite an exciting announcement to me. Will wait for a nice discount though before I get it.
I'm tired of seeing racing bike after racing bike. I wish Lego made a cool chopper or sometihng like the B model of 42036 (I'm not familiar with bike types, I just call it as I see it).
Not into technic but that's slick
A life-long biker, I was hoping for a little more detail with this model, particularly having seen what is possible eg. the Honda Repsol MoC. I hoped for a realistic drive chain and having the front sprocket in front of the swingarm axle (not a fan of those short chains on others). And a seat. That said, nice new parts like the front rotors are welcomed and I look forward to seeing the engine and gearbox. It'll be great to mod up (replace some pins, add detail, shaping) and I look foward to getting it. Can't ride my real bike much at the mo so this'll do nicely.
Not a fan of bikes or cars in general, but they had me on the working gearbox.
Seeing complex mechanics systems at work in LEGO is something I really like seeing.
But for the life in me, why does LEGO insists on using blue connectors in everything? I guess its because they stand out in the middle of the other pieces and gives a good sense of orientation... but... they stand out so much!
That seat area is riddled with these things and it just makes the area ugly and clumpsy... I guess I will have to replace them myself or add some extra detail to cover them up.
I'm just wondering when they will do an bike next to the Bugatti, I'll wait until I see more on it! I do like the look of it and would look great next to the car transport!
I like it in black, but I'm still going to buy it.
But can I fit my Obi-Wan Constraction figure on the bike like 42036?

Technic and Creator Expert are absolutely my fav themes. I find some things are just naturally better in Technic, like the motorcycles, heavy trucks and equipment and racing cars. Just finished the Roller Coaster and cannot see it as a Technic.
It looks awesome and will be a great gift, the only thing that would make it more awesome is having different colour sets of panels.

As someone that's built all the Lego bikes and made quite a few of my own MOCs I can tell you there are just no nice parts that do the job - we really need a specific part for that with a constant curve but only plate thickness (1/3 stud). I'm also a bit disappointed in this model not having a front mudguard as it looks unfinished though I'll still buy it because I'm a motorcycle rider and have all the other bikes. Plus all Ducati's rock!
I'm a long-time bike rider and TBH I hate Harley's with a passion but I actually enjoyed building the Harley and I think it looks pretty good on my shelf. Still wouldn't be seen dead riding one though.
