Spike Prime, the new educational robotics product based on the Powered Up electronics system, is currently available for just £265 at Amazon.co.uk, which is a 25%/£90 discount on the full RRP.

It's been designed to be very quick and easy to build with and, because it uses Scratch as its programming language, kids will be up to speed with it in no time.

So, if you're looking for something to help with STEM education at home while schools are closed, it's the ideal product. It's also great for GBCs and your own robotics projects.

Buy one now, before it goes back up to Amazon's usual price of £355.

Hmmm... I might look into this. We haven't been set any school ICT (computing) learning, so this would be a great opportunity. @Huw what are the age recommendations?

Ah cool. Thanks for the news message. Ordered straight away. Now waiting for the Technic Land Rover to become more affordable again.

I like Spike Prime, but I'm holding out in the faint hope of a fourth generation of Mindstorms

Ordinary people getting the chance to get this at a good price is nice, but these discounts do make me worry a little about the success of this particular product. Unfortunately it may have launched at the worst possible time—while other Lego products are less likely to be impacted severely and may even get a sales bump from families spending more time at home, the education line relies on schools as the backbone of their sales—and with schools both having to be closed to students and to redirect their budgets toward distance learning technology and services, Spike Prime orders may not hit their goals for quite some time.

I'm very tempted, but I haven't done anything useful with my Mindstorms set yet, so I don't think I have the commitment/dedication/time/whatever to use it.

I am confused right now about the whole PU product line. Let's say I buy the excavator 42100. I get two hubs. Can I use them with sensors from this set and program then myself? Or is there some ready solution where I just select input and say what I want for the selection of values coming from it?
How does it all work together?

You are not alone!

"Let's say I buy the excavator 42100. I get two hubs. Can I use them with sensors from this set and program then myself? "

The Spike hub will recognise and drive the Technic motors but position information and other feedback is not available as it is with the Spike motors. The Control+ hubs are useless for anything other than controlling via an app.
